Hi everyone,
Some of you may remember me mentioning several weeks ago that my skin went completely mental and decided to have a major nervous breakdown (or a breakdown of some sort anyway). My skin is usually not problematic but all of a sudden there were all these bumps under the skin and some pimples as well The bumps were not visible but I could really feel them when I was washing my face.
I heard many good reviews about MDF and decided to try it out. I dropped my usual skin care routine and vowed to use MDF (or mainly MDF) until my skin recovered. It's worked wonders!
I'm not going to review the MDF products one by one because I couldn't for the life of me tell you which one did the trick. It was most probably a combo of them all. So this is what I did -->
I went and got myself an MDF combo skin starter kit. I think it's a really good way to get to experience some of the MDF products without investing a small fortune in the range. However I also had a few MDF products already in my bathroom cabinet. I haven't been using everything from the kit (haven't tried the eye cream or the antioxidant serum yet) but the following is my routine for the last few weeks and if I may say so myself.... my skin is now uber-smooth and clear!
Morning (first week or so):
MDF cleanser (w/glycolic acid)
DDF Protective Eye Cream SPF15
MDF facial lotion
MDF advanced hydrating complex
MDF total protector 30
Morning (since about 5 days ago):
MDF cleanser (w/glycolic acid)
DDF Protective Eye Cream SPF15
Vivier 20% vit C serum (getting back into it after a break)
MDF advanced hydrating complex
Phytomer Extended Youth Day Cream
MDF total protector 30
Night:
MDF cleanser (w/glycolic acid)
MDF Clearing Complex on problem areas (not in starter kit)
Cellcosmet Eye Contour Cream
MDF facial lotion
MDF advanced hydrating complex
Clinique Repaiwear (still trying to finish off the thing!)
Also, every few days I would use a mask. MDF Clearing Complex Masque (it's lime green! ) alternating with Phytomer Moisture Quench Mask, Thalgo Moisture Quenching Mask (as opposed to the Phytomer one - very similar names) and DDF Hydra Comfort Gel Mask (which my skin got used to and no longer finds tingly!!). More about those masks in a few days....
In all honesty I love the MDF products because they work so well, but at the same time I don't like them because I'm a sucker for nice packaging and pretty smells *blushes* I can't deny though that the MDF products have been surprisingly effective for me. They may not be everybody's cup of tea though - my skin is not sensitive in the least.
I think the product I dislike most from the stuff I've tried (but still use it 'coz it works!) is the facial lotion. At first I thought it was a moisturiser (it SAYS "lotion" - I associate that with moisturisers for some reason) but this is actually a toner from what I can tell. It's a watery milky substance and it tastes a bit sour if you happen to get it on your lips. Not too crazy about the texture, taste or the bland looking appearance but I'm sticking with it because whatever I am doing seems to be working.
You may have also noticed that I have not been using my beloved Microfoliant, Buffing Beads or the Phytomer Gommage for that matter. I figured that with all the glycolic acid in these products, I didn't need even MORE exfoliation.
If you have any questions about any of the products I mentioned then fire away!
Have a lovely weekend,
Mabsy

Mabsy,
How are you liking the DDF SPF 15 eyecream? I'm curious to know if had a "de-puffing" effect on you as well.

Hey Mabsy !
Sounds like you went through something similar to what I did a few weeks ago, you described those horrible hard-ish bumps !! I don't like being bumpy, even with make up on I can discern those nAAsty rash like things at an angle. If I'm guessing right and you've been as busy as me lately, the good old stress could have brought this on... I read that our skin can get stressed too.
I'm glad to hear the MDF regime has gotten you back on track... as much as I love Phytomer and algae based products, I have to admit you can't deny the benefits of a good AHA treatment... as it's more a 'medicinal' (I won't say paramedical) range it's good for when your skin needs a bit of a shake up (which my normal/ dry combo skin does occasionally). I'm going to get a glyco peel facial soon ... I'm in need of decongesting and a bit of relaxing at this salon where you can literally fall asleep as they play such tranquil music (birds and waterfalls mmm.. )
How do you find the Vit-C works with the other AHA products... especially after cleansing with the MDF Cleanser-- any stinging at all ?

Do you have any hyper-pigmentation on your skin? I need something to clear up my hormone-crazy, aging skin, that can also lighten up some of my brown spots. |

Sorry sorry sorry. I've been offline the last few days so I'm just now trying to catch up on all the posts.
Alohagirl - I think the DDF eyecream is very nice. I think you are right, it does do a good job of de-puffing the area, though I didn't have a problem with the skin looking deflated. I've been having late night at the computer and also doing heaps of reading preparing for work etc so my eyes were suffering. I was waking up with the area around the eyes looking slightly puffy (and also eyes that were less than bright!). The DDF eyecream seemed to take care of the puffiness very well. I also discovered Mavala Eye Bright (or something like that). They're eye drops made my Mavala and they're actually blue in colour. They make the whites of your eyes super bright! Great for late nights! Anyhoooo, back to the eyecream. I think I still prefer the Murad Essential-C one because I like the thicker texture better but I think the DDF one is a great SPF option for people who prefer (or need) lighter textures.
Summertimegirl - Yeah, I'm pretty sure that all of this has been caused by stress and not driking enough water in my case. I had all this new stuff at work, job interview (I got it! Yay!), and then more new stuff at work! All very stressfull. Plus I've just been busy running around doing things so I haven't been eating as well and drinking enough water either. I'm really glad I switched to the MDF regime but I'm not going to stick with it. It was just a rescue treatment for my skin and I'm ready to get back to my usual routine (i.e. a bit of everything :P). I will always revert ot the MDF products though if my skin is having issues with my lifestyle I'm in serious need of a break too so I decided that I am going to the Gold Coast this weekend. I still have to spend Sunday preparing for work, but I am going down on Friday night right after work and coming back on Sunday morning Can't wait! My best friend is moving overseas in a few weeks and he lives at the GC so I'm just going to stay with him and spend some quality time together As far as using AHAs and vit C together, I have not had any stinging at all. Mind you, I've never had any stinging from the Vivier serum so it may depend on the product you're using.
Sylviaszoo - As far as pigmentation goes I think you'd find that something like a vit C serum or Skinceuticals Phyto+ might improve the situation.

OOOOOH! Mavala Eye-Lite from Switzerland, my favorite eye drops, just one drop for each eye will soothe and beautify your look. They have beautiful blue colour and they indeed make the whites of your eyes super white. They are safe to use with contact lenses too. I always carry one with me. One bottle costs me about $12. CAD and it lasts for about 8 months. I love them. |

Hi Thoughtcrime!
Babyfish is right, it's actually called Eye-Lite. I stumbled onto these eye drops by chance and I liked the fact that they were blue You'll laugh when I tell you why... mainly because those blue lightbulbs on cars look like they give off much clearer brighter light (though it is just an illusion). So I figured, surely these eye drops, being blue, will make my eyes brighter too! :P
They actually work very well and make the whites of your eyes really bright and healthy looking. Your eyes also feel quite refreshed. You're really meant to throw them away after 4 weeks (like most eyedrops) but I have mine for about a year before I chuck them. I just make sure that I don't ever touch the actual applicator/drip bit.
They come in a 5mL dark drown dripper bottle and are made by Mavala. I have also tried Mavala Double Lash (I'm 100% of the name of this one ). It's supposed to condition your lashes and make them grow longer. I used it a few years ago and I was, at the time, under the impression that my eyelashes were falling out less. I don't think it made them any longer. Either way, it's a whitish serum that comes with a mascara type applicator. It's supposed to be used at night. I kept forgetting to use it so I can't for sure say that it works or doesn't work.
Mabsy.
ps. Eye Lite has 0.3mg/mL Tetrahydrozoline and 0.5mg/mL Chlorbutol Bacteriostat. It tells me nothing but maybe somebody on the forum knows what that stuff is supposed to do |

Hi Mabsy and babyfish,
I noticed that those eye drops contain an ingredient that Visine has--Tetrahydrozoline. I used to be the Visine queen because my eyes get so red and itchy with my allergies, until my eye doctor told me that Visine is a vasoconstrictor, and will make redness worse in time. Here's what I found: "Repeated use of vasoconstrictors causes REBOUND REDNESS. Once the drug"s chemicals wear off, the previously constricted blood vessels relax, dilate and cause even more redness. Over time vasoconstrictors, like many eye drops, lose their potency. The eye drops fail to perform as well as when first used.
Vasoconstrictor eye drops should be used sparingly for special occasions, like an important photograph or severe allergy." I now use prescribed Patenol. Expensive, but effective for allergies. |

Thanks for the warning Thoughtcrime! I knew you'd know something about those ingredients
Luckily, I only ever use this very rarely. That's the main reason why they last me so long. I throw them out after a year for hygiene reasons (well sort of - if it was TRUE hygiene I'd do what the box said and throw them out after a month :P) but even then there is plenty left in the bottle.
I don't really like putting eyedrops in my eyes. Yes, you guessed it, I am one of 'those' people who have trouble putting their head under water let alone opening their eyes under water. Also a reason why I don't wear contacts often (I hate touching my eye to get them off!).
But these are a God send when you had a long night or sat in front of the computer for too many hours (er.... days *blushes*) in a row
