Hi there!
My name's Eduardo and I've been struggling with oily, shiny skin for a very long time... My skin isn't that bad and it doesn't break down that much... but there's one thing that totally brings me down and makes me feel ugly and even embarrassed to go out in public - and that's the shiny, oily, greasy aspect/look of my face (especially my forehead and nose).
I've seen many expensive and well known doctors and have received the same answers over and over: There's no such product that can diminish that. But hey you should be happy cause you won't have wrinkles as you get older... Arghhh I`m sick of hearing that, I don't think they quite understand the feeling of being dirty when we actually aren't! I wash my face and 5 minutes later it's shining again !
So if someone out there has this same issue and has tried some products that can give the skin a matte finish it'd would mean a lot to me.
I was all excited with the Laure Geller matte powder but someone has told me it's pure talc and it doesn't meet its claims...
Tkank you VERY much!

my face is generally very oily in the tzone area and before no amount of loose powder could soak up the shine. lately it has been very under control thanks to Decleor's Ylang Ylang oil and mattifying fluid! also try doing a really good mud mask every other day.. i use nuskin glacier mud mask and i love it (you can really see the oil being sucked by the mud) |

Sadly, I think the doctors' advice is right, there is really nothing that will stop oily skin from getting "shiny".
I have the same shine problem but the good news is I can confirm that in my 40s I still have no wrinkles, not a single one.
I use those Clean & Clear oil blotting papers, the blue ones, made by Johnson & Johnson. Not sure if they are available outside Asia? They are the best solution I have found. |

Carekate's regime is good for us oilies
Here is what works for me:
Dr Hauschka Cleansing Cream (original or homemade), witch hazel as toner and any oil (Jojoba or Dr Hauschka Normalising Day Oil, Decleor, Clarins)
I found conventional mositursiers made my skin even more oily.
Also liquid foundations broke my face out in oils. MAC Studio Fix powder foundation is very good. |

Try cleansing with really gentle products - I found that when I switched to gentle and organic products to cleanse and moisturize with my skin went from being oily/combo-oily to being normal .
This shocked me because I thought I had to deep cleanse and use strong things to get rid of the oil but was told that oil is your skins defense system.
I am now cleansing using cotton pads dampened with pure water and spritzed with 100% organic Camellia oil from Rosa y Fruta - cleansing this way has helped clear up a break out I experienced using an organic cleanser that was too harsh for my skin even though it is meant for sensitive skin.
I also think using pure water or a shower head/water filter can make a big difference. |

I agree with tisa - the harsher the product the the more oily my skin gets esp. with cleansers. I also find that gentle exfoliation with light peels and good serums really help too! |

I too, use to have really shiny, oily skin...so oily that at times, I would get cystic acne. I used so many products to help with that...well it helped. Now my skin isn't shiny or oily, but I have fine lines on my face at 34. Let me tell you...I'm begging for that cystic acne again. Acne isn't always permanent but wrinkles are
My point is that we are never happy with the way our skin looks. I kept finding fault with it looking so shiny...I'm dealing with issues that are far worse and may not get any better. |

I found using harsh treatments made my skin oilier too. I would have said my skin was oily without hesitation before, but now I'd say it's definate combination, sometimes even dry.
Before I used to try and strip the oil away, using harsh cleansers and toners with alcohol, but when I started using gentle products that didn't strip my skin it started to improve greatly.
Dr Hauschka Rythmtic Ampules really helped balance my skin again. I find using a cream at night just makes my skin oilier the next day. |

Thank you so much everybody for being so nice !
I was reading some stuff on the OC Eight product and got pretty excited to try it out... Since my friend lives in England he'll send me 2 tubes of it... I'll give it a try since I've read nice stuff on it!
Has anyone ever tried OC 8? Is it really good ?!
Thanks in advance,
Eduardo |

Oh I also forgot to mention that I've been using Cetaphil as my daily cleanser and it's worked well ! It's very soft and it's doens't hurt my skin leaving it more sensitive and oilier... My doc recommended it along with some tangerine (very expensive) lotion that promised to reduced the oiliness... oh well the lotion hasn't helped me that much... but Cetaphil certainly has...
See ya ! |
