I was just over on another board reading a discussion about HA and they were talking about this famous Japanese village, Yuzurihara where the 80+ natives don't have wrinkles, don't need glasses and have healthy joints. I never heard of this before, though I understand it's well known in the US.
So I've been off on the web reading. It's put down to the total diet containing many elements, but there's this particular vegetable which they eat instead of rice called Tamaji which is said to play a major part in maintaining younger levels of HA in their bodies.
Of course I want to immediately eat heaps of Tamaji and I reckon there's a chance they'd have this here in China. Maybe I've seen it, but I don't know what it looks like and I can't find a photo of it.
Can anyone locate an online photo for me or tell me the Chinese name, if there is one?
Help me! I need Tamaji now |

Thanks for all the info Tiger Tim, I'm still digesting it.
I think I might have cooked some of these little critters before. If so they're damn difficult to deal with. I wonder if I can find some pre-peeled, frozen Tamaji in the supermarket. |

thanks, Ruth.
Molly, I tried to find an English or Chinese name, but couldn't (it wasn't in my Dictionary of Japanese Food ). I also asked DH if he knew what Tamaji were and he was like "huh?".
I hear though that they are hard to find even in Japan. |

Thanks TT. To be honest I think you'd have to eat an awful lot of roots to get the HA effect and it's not that appealing. Interesting thought though. |
