I have never used mmu before but am curious to try. I have a few questions - and yes I've read MOST of the mmu threads on EDS already
1. What exactly makes mmu different from normal makeup (apart from all natural ingredients of course!)?. I've always used powder foundation and was wondering how mmu will benefit my skin and why so many people use it.
2. Seeing how I can get samples online I would also like to ask all mmu users out there which brand I should experiment with first. I don't really want to order samples from a lot of different brands all at once as not to waste the samples even though they are very inexpensive. After reading the many threads on EDS I've narrowed it down to 3 contestants:
Everyday Minerals
Pure Luxe
Bare Faced Minerals
I'm also curious about JI but not sure about the bismuth...
I need a lot of coverage for acne AND acne marks. I'm sort of confused as to what colour I am for Bare Faced. I also want something that will last the whole day and withstand humidity and sweat.
Thanks |

It was my dermatologist who turned me on to MMU. He told me that it would help with break-outs as it lets your skin breath. He was right - since I've been using it my skin has been blemmish-free.
I use JI - I've tried other brands but always come back to this one. I think it looks the most natural and has great lasting power. It also doesn't tend to settle into lines and wrinkles (of which I have more than enough). As for coverage - you can use a smaller (damp)brush and apply the powder as a concealer. If I were you, I would try a few products by asking the SA to show you how to apply them correctly and to find the correct shade. I like to go for a fairly darkish colour which doubles as a bronzer.
I swear, once you've tried MMU you will never go back to anything else. |

JI is a lovely, lovely MMU and if your skin can tolerate it and you're okay with the price (it's a tad bit expensive) then give it a shot.
However, if you want to sample the smaller crafted lines, then you've got some good choices posted.
EveryDay Minerals now has a new line of Intensives for heavier coverage which you may just love - def. give them a try b/c the samples are FREE - all you pay for is shipping and the customer service is top notch.
BareFaced Minerals - also has their newer Velvet Plush for heavier coverage, but a beautiful finish. LOVE it. I'm still trying to find my perfect color match, but this is a wonderful MMU. You can get added Vitamin E for a smooth, creamy, but never shiny finish.
I did try PureLuxe foundation, but it wasn't for me - however, customer service is great, and there are some beautiful shadows and blushes and other great products that I use.
Alima and Lauress are also wonderful companies, but the finish is light to medium, which it doesn't sound like you're looking for.
Have fun sampling!

Everyday MMU has worked the best for me. I also liked Aromaleigh. There was a thread a few weeks ago, I think, that identified the fact that liquid foundations have come a very long way, and many contain the same ingredients as some mmu, except for the liquid. The thread discussed mixing your own liquid foundation, I believe. Anyway, I have found there are good and bad in both. |

I'm also new to MMU and have loads of questions about it. I recently got the samples of EM and have so far tried it a few times. My skin feels a bit dry after application and it seems to make my larger pores on both sides of my nose look more noticeable. It also gives a "metallic" finish (semi-matte formula is better than original glo in this sense) which I don't like.
I'm thinking of buying JI samples. Anyone tried both EM and JI? Does JI Pressed Base give a "metallic" finish? Does it make your pores/fine lines more noticeable? Which shades are suitable for medium Asian skin with yellow undertone? |

Hello all, Most mmu co also have there own forums which are full of people ready to assist you with application ? and colors choices. Also go to Dephiforums.com and click on "more forums" at the top of page and go to mineral makeup mania- this is where I learned the most about mmu and the different choices on the market. Sometimes even the owners of of some of the co. post, Also at this site at the start page are every mmu co listed to go to plus comparision charts for colors and coverage. I't's very helpful. Last nothing helps like hands on experiementing. In addtion most people need some type of primer before mmu, esp for foundation, depending on skin type- AVG, emu oil. Monistat anti-chafing gel(which is silicone based) or just a light moisturizer/sunscreen. Dampening a taklon brush and smoothing a sm. amt. of the foundation or mmu concealer around troublesome spots helps with pore coverage. remember always use less than you might think you need, you can always apply more if needed. HTH. |

Hi sormuimui,
I can highly recommend Pure Luxe ... but I have to say that I like Physician's Formula Mineral loose foundation as well. It's inexpensive and I did find my perfect match for my face with their Creamy Natural.
That said ... I'm curious. You say that you already use a powder foundation ... but I was unaware of any powder foundation that wasn't MMU.
What brand of powder foundation are you using?

I recently received my orders from Pure Luxe. Great service, nice products. Lurve the eraser foundation and it is relatively inexpensive compared to Bare Essentials etc... (Maybe you pay for a different quality, I have never tried BE so I can't comment on it). I like Physician Formula too, easily available and last a long time for me. However, just one down side with Pure Luxe, you have to get a whole set of brushes as all the powders doesn't come with brush.

I love MMU because I don't like any more the 100 layers of cream, MU, powder,...
With MMU I have all-in-one with a fantastic finish.
I love my Philosophy MU, but I have to test also the Pure Luxe MMU.
@nomoreneckpain: thank you for the tips... |

JI's quality is great, no doubt about that. It lasts all day without changing color. I don't like the fact that it has bismuth in it though. And their shades don't match me perfectly- i don't want to be a blending scientist early in the morning when i'm just in a rush to get ready and go. |

I'm currently using Lancome Maquicake UV Forever which provides SPF 17 PA++ and according to the box supposed to have some sort of anti-shine tech that absorbs oil even in humid climates. The coverage is great, has great SPF and it DOES keep me shine free well. I generally don't NEED to change my makeup but I'm curious about MMU. The Lancome doesn't break me out at all unlike others I've tried like MAC. Lancome also has another powder foundation called dual finish but I find that's still slightly heavy for my skin. There are in fact many powder foundations on the market, most of the dept store brands have them. You'll have more choices in Japanese brands as they have diff ones for diff purposes ie. whitening, oil control, anti-age, etc etc. I've only use liquid foundation for a very short time in my life and I swear I hate it and will never go back. |

There's quite a few different dept. store brands that have powder foundations. Chanel have a couple (Double Perfecting Powder and Blanc Essentiel) Shiseido (Powdery Foundation) and Stila (Illuminating Powder Foundation). |
