Hi all,
Does anyone know which common ingredient in MMU is responsible for making ones pores look HUGE?
I notice that different brands have different formulations (duh  ). The one I tried last was Pure Luxe in a color a tad too light for me. Titanium Dioxide was the first ingredient on the list. And sure enough, huge-looking pores that did not diminish after 30 minutes "melding" period.
But when I use something like Youngblood Finishing powder that has rice and cornstarch in it, I don't have this problem at all.
Do you think that color choice as well as ingredients will make a difference in showing or diminishing the look of pores? As in, color choice too light? And any thoughts on ingredients? I have some samples (Aromaleigh, Pure Luxe) and have just ordered EveryDay minerals but those have not arrived yet.

I also have the same problem where MMU accentuates pores or bumps when I have not exfoliated in a while.
I have used Pure Luxe for over a year now, it is a good brand, but it only contains mica, to2, and zinc oxide. Like pure MMU, its ingredients are not refined enough to give that sheen silky texture.
If you compare this to the texture of say, Jurlique silk dust, then the silk dust will blow MMU out of the water.
If you use starch/rice based powders then they will be much finer. I don't think colour determines the final texture, but rather the base of the powder.
Another brand, called Evan's Garden Cosmetics, does MMU which has arrowroot and starch base, does a huge range of shades.

Bismuth in MMU is definitely bad for my pores, which either makes clogged (making them appear to be enlarged), or worst case...makes the pore clogged to the point of turning it into a tiny bump. I have found the following to help diminish this problem:
A. Use of MMU that doesn't contain bismuth
B. Making sure my moisturizer is fully absorbed then:
C. Applying a primer as the last step between moisturizing and applying MMU
D. Applying MMU in a downward motion
Hope this helps! Although like many skincare/beauty things, different people of course have different skintypes and sometimes you have to experiment a bit to find out what works best for you. I like Everyday Minerals and Physicians Formula. I tried Pure Luxe but it seemed too shimmery or something for me. The nice thing is you can usually get samples either for free or for pretty cheap. And there are plenty to choose from!

(If I were to use a primer after my moisturizer and before the MMU, would I put my sunscreen on after or before the primer?) |

| I've noticed the difference in brands. True makes my pores look larger, but I love the coverage and color and my skin doesn't look as dry, or feel as dry. Everyday MMU (intensive) doesn't show the pores, but it still itches a little on me. The monistat primer I've been using really does help on the itch but makes my skin look a little drier w/ the Everyday. |

When you use your TRUE powder, do you spray with a mineral mist afterwards. The only reason I ask because I read your post and I too had the same problem when I first started using. I noticed a couple things that worked for me. I sometimes need extra coverage, (you know bad skin day) so I will use my True powder to build the base I want, but I start with a very very light coat. I spray with mineral mist, let it dry completely and then do my second coat, which completely covers. I use a sponge to apply pressure around my face, it seems to matte it. Then spray again. It then does not make my pores look large and helps hide my bumps and imperfections better. I carry the mist around with me, I will spray a couple times a day and it really is a refresher. I find if I spray, I don't need to reapply. If I am using a bronzer on a certain day, I spray after the bronzer as well. |

| "TRUE POWDER" . True is a brand name of a mineral powder. You can buy it in loose or compact. The mineral mist is also made by TRUE. This wonderful site sells the product line. Go to the shopping area and scroll down for TRUE. |

| I use the same techniques as bergquis, otherwise my pores also look huge. I use a soy mist from Bath & Body, but lots of places have similar items that work as well, many are less expensive too. Good luck1 |

I can really say that mineral makeup has changed my life. For 30 plus years I used Janet Sartin and I always looked oily and thought that was a good thing because the oils were being released. Well, with mineral make up this never happens and I am so grateful I found it.

| it's suppose to be, that dermatologists recommend wearing them. one other thing i forgot, usually my pores will look bigger until the product "sinks" in, then it takes on a whole new look. (about 1-2 hrs.) |

I have found this to be true for me, too. Also, any foundations that have the "glow" factor (I don't know which ingredients cause this) tend to emphasize my pores. I do better with more matte formulas, but can get away with mineral foundations with *slight* glow.
I do think that the minerals have been better for my skin. I have gone through so many non-mineral foundations over the years that broke me out or clogged my pores horribly. I don't have these reactions with mineral makeup because there are no fillers, oils, preservatives, etc. So, in my experience, mineral makeup is better for my skin.
