I have hiddeous legs. It is over in scars from ingrown hairs.
Will tanning cause the scars to go darker?
Will using jergen's natural glow cover up the scars or will it go darker with the skin too?
Also, will my scars fade? |

Can't comment on the products you are asking about, but I have various scars on my legs (also, among others, from ingrown hairs) on my arms and elsewhere, and scars do not tan. In fact, when I have the slightest tan, the scars are more obvious, because they stay pale.
I haven't noticed mys scars fading over the years, but then again, I generally don't scar very well (ie, I've had scars from small cuts for over 20 years. Also had minor surgery, and the scar is bigger than the incision.) |

Depends on what type of scar you have. I have loads of keloids on my arm which are still quite red and they just seem to get redder in the sun, and others which stay white.
I went to a dermatologist years ago about some brown flat scars I had. I was convinced they;d never go and he said they would fade, which they did but it took years! If you have ones like that then a tan probably wouldn't darken them, just make them less noticeable against darker skin. |

I just used xen-tan and I thought when I put it on it was a little orange, but the color actually turned out pretty nice and covered my leg scars okay. |

OMG Candice, I thought I was the only one! I can't wear shorts ever because I have so many scars from ingrown hairs/folliculitis (as well as newly developing ones...I get them constantly). It's mortifying, and I tried to get the slightest bit of color on my legs from the sun, but the scars themselves stayed pale (like Verdigris said) and the areas directly around the scars are now darker than the rest of my skin. I wouldn't recommend it, personally.
It's been over 110 degrees here this week & I was just thinking yesterday that I might try going to one of those spray tan booths to get a spritz of self tanner to see if that might work (like Mystic Tan). It's good to know that jole4422 had some good luck with self tanner. Maybe I'll give that a try after all. I'm dying in the heat wearing pants. I'm also going to vacation in Hawaii in a few weeks and would really like to wear shorts.
Good luck, and I'd really like to hear what works for all of you! |

So far.....I have not found anything that worked yet! This is killing me. It is soooo hot and everyone is in shorts and skirts when i'm stuck in pants. Trust me, i'm going to die from the heat. Well, my scars are still darker than my skin so i'm planning to try a little tanning till they are almost the same color. I am not sure if this works. I'm using Jergen's natural glow. It is a self tanner lotion that build the tan gradually. MAYBE this would work. I'll let you know in......3 more days when the results are more obvious.
Have you found a way to get rid of the ingrown hairs? it keeps coming back and Tendskin and exfoliation is not working. I already try avoiding waxing all together. But shaving leaves these black dots. |

I'm sorry that you have this problem, too, Candice. Thought I was the only one! It's not fun at all...
I always have issues with getting new ingrowns, and for some reason my skin takes forever to heal, so I've got about 10 sore red marks at a time that last for quite a while. I'm going to research what kind of supplementation I can do that might help my skin heal quicker, as the scars may not show up as much that way. In the meantime I think I just might try to go the self-tanner route. |

Sally Hansen makes a spray for legs that's like makeup. It gives you a slight tan, but it washes off with soap and water. I don't know how well it covers scars, but it works for bruises and uneven self tanner. |

I also have this problem - awful, isn't it?
Although I have no experience with the Sally Hansen product, I always spray my legs with Air Stockings before daring to bare them. Covers the scars beautifully. It is more expensive than the Sally Hansen one, though. |

Yes I would have to say that when I tan my scars did darken. |

Hey Majorb, where did you get the airstocking? I tried sally hanson but it doesn't cover the scars. And I haven't seen any air stocking on sale here in vancouver. |

Marmur1, have you tried using antiseptic cream with vitamin E? it may help your wound heal. Try putting some ice on the problematic area to stop it from burning/itching. I must admit, some of the scars left after an ingrown hair is due to my constant picking and scratching so try to avoid touching that area. |

Hi Candice,
I just bought some antiseptic cream that I haven't tried yet. Before I had just tried the ointment, but thought the cream might work a bit better and be a bit more user friendly. Do you have a cream that includes the Vit. E, or do you apply that separately?
I know what you mean...I tend to scratch too. My legs get itchy when they're healing and I scratch without thinking about it. Not good...slows down the healing process COMPLETELY.
I tried the Sally Hansen spray once, but couldn't find a match to my skin. I'll keep my eyes peeled for the Air Stocking. I know I've seen it before, but can't recall where. |

I get my Air Stocking here in the UK. There are a few UK websites that sell it (such as hqhair.com), although I was extremely lucky recently and found a couple of cans in TK Maxx for half price! Yay! It's a heck of a lot more expensive over here than in the US (what a surprise).
Probably you're best bet to buy them in Canada might be to use a website.
This site appears to ship to Canada from the US, although I think you have to buy at least 2 cans in a pack: http://www.salonweb.com/airstocking/order.htm
I also think that amazon.com sells it.
This former EDS thread talks about more stockists. For instance, do you have Sephoras over there? http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=1493
I'd definitely recommend it. Makes your legs look flawless. |

Hey Majorb, did you choose "natural" for the color for air stocking? I'm very pale and I wonder if natural will be too dark for me |

I used the Terracotta at first, but that's a little bit orangey and dark. So next time I ordered the Natural. I fake tanned my body and then applied it to my legs only, and it blended in beautifully. But I do have extremely pale skin that doesn't look really brown even with fake tan.
So, if you're as pale as me, a little light fake tan on the rest of your body might help blend it in better. However, the Natural shade isn't very dark so you may well be able to get away with just using it on your legs without fake tan on the rest of you.
I found it to be a really good colour that works very well for me. |

I pick my ingrowns. I know, but I just can't leave them alone. My legs are covered in these small white spots. I haven't considered fake tans, might try that. I've just resigned myself to never revealing my legs, and it gets reaaaally hot here in summer, like what you've been experiencing in the Northern hemisphere recently, but ours lasts longer. |
