Ok I remember reading a while back that others were interested in more natural, sulphate-free toothpastes, so hopefully this is helpful to someone!
I have been using Burts Bees toothpastes for some time and I really like how clean my teeth feel after using them. I also find that if I Don't use them (ie I forgot my toothpaste when I went on vacation and got stuck using Crest), my teeth feel like they have that sort of film most mornings, whereas when I use the Burts, I usually don't get the film. This is most noticeable when I wear my retainer at night.
Anyway. I started out when they first came out with the Lavender Mint toothpaste. Yuck. I loved the packaging, loved the smell, loved the fact that it was purple, and hated the taste. It was just too weird. I really like the smell of lavender, but apparently not the taste. At least in my toothpaste.
Then I tried the CinnaMint kind and thought I was done trying other types of toothpaste. I love both the tastes and smells of Cinnamon and Peppermint, again my teeth get super clean, no film, etc. It was like the Lavender but with no weird taste. Not very much of a taste either though.
THEN...The other day I was in Wild Oats and saw "Doctor Burts 100% Natural Children's Orange Cream Toothpaste"! I was instantly intrigued. I the smell of Orange Oil, and probably one of my favorite taste/smell combinations on earth is Orange Creamsicle, so needless to say I snatched it up, even though I had some (ok, a lot) of a tube of CinnaMint left.
Result: It is DELICIOUS. I get the same positive results as I did with the other two, but I really love the taste of this one. As in, I look forward to brushing with it because it's like a treat. Now, it's not as delicious as say, a Creamsicle, but for a toothpaste flavor...Yum. The only con is that it comes in a smaller tube than the others (probably since it's targeted for children), but I think it is basically the same price. So as far as toothpaste goes, it's relatively pricey, I guess. Oh, the only other con I can think of is that it smells Very similar to Burt's Orange Essence cleanser, and it does seem weird to be cleansing both my face and teeth with products that smell the same...but if you can get over that bit you're all set. It doesn't really bother me; it just seems weird.
Ok, some product info:
It looks like this:
The outside reads: "100% Natural. NO Flouride, NO Artificial Colors, Flavors, Sweeteners, OR Sodium Lauryl Sulphate. For children 2 years and up! Great for adults too!"
Ingredients: Purified Water, Vegetable Glycerin, Calcium Carbonate (Chalk), Bentonite (Natural Clay), Orange Oil, Sodium Bicarbonate (Baking Soda), Yucca Extract, Vegetable Oil & Beta Carotene, Xanthan Gum.
Drugstore.com has it for around $4.39, which I think is about what I paid for mine.
So, if you are interested in a natural, great-tasting, sulphate-free toothpaste, please try this! |
