Hello,
I think it is a good idea if we share experience with each other about what kind of supplements helped to improve our skin, or made it worse.
I use with good result:
Zinc Citrate
Vitamine B 100 Complex
Vitamine A
Vitamine E
OMEGA 3 Complex
I got bad results with:
Slim Fast (I got allergic reaction on some of the ingredients). |

I have been taking Herron (brand name) Bio C 1000mg for a long time now. I'm not sure if it's made much of a difference to anything, then again, maybe I'd look worse. I take the Vitamin C twice a day, once in the morning and once at night.
I also take:
Multi Vitamin and Mineral (1xday)
Folic Acid 500mcg (1xday)
Vitamin E 500mg (1xday)
Evening Primrose Oil (2xday)
The other night at work I felt my thigh was really sore and it felt like I had a lump on it. I wasn't sure if I bumped it, but I probably did. When I got home I had a huge purple bruise, it looked like I'd been beaten. I was worried. I looked up on the internet and it said that women are more prone to bruising, especially around the thighs, but that also taking a Vitamin E supplement can make you more prone to it. Weird hey.
I'm not sure if taking the Vitamins is helping my skin specifically, as I'm more taking them for my health. But since coming to this forum my skin has improved with all your handy tips!

Biotin helps hair and nails, but high levels of it can cause acne. |

I mainly take:
*Zinc - The is my HG supplement, my skin, hair and nails have improved: acne scars healed extremely fast, both my hair and nails grow so fast now and best of all your sex drive goes through the roof.
*Vitamin A
*Vitamin C
*B Complex
*Acidophilus (sp?)
*Aloe Vera Juice - I suffer from a bad stomach from time to time especially after eating 'roughage', vegetables, salad, fruit... so the aloe juice helps to soothe my poor colon and speads up the healing process. |

I was wondering. I'm sure I read somewhere that you have to be careful when taking Vitamin A supplements. I thought you could get enough from diet. Maybe I've confused it with another Vitamin?
Do you think it's helped your skin?

I agree with you that with well balanced diet you have enough of Vitamine A, but my diet sometimes is so crazy that I need to take supplements. I take Vitamine A only for a few weeks, and then I usually take 1-2 months break. I also take Cod Liver Oil (company "Swiss"), its ingredient include Vitamine D and Vitamine A. |

For skin reasons, I'm taking:
Biotin
Evening Primrose oil
1-2 gr doses of Vitamin B-5, aka Pantothenic Acid, when I have continuous acne breakouts. |

Vitamin E can thin your blood so I can see why it would make someone more prone to bruising.
The only supplement that I think may have an effect on my skin in flax seed oil or black currant oil (similar to evening primrose which I can't use because it bothers my stomach).
I don't take these now but it seems like they helped keep my skin hydrated and reduced breakouts. One of these days I am going to start using the flax again and see if I have any improvements. |

Rosebud - what dose of the vitamins would you reccommend? There are some cheap varieties around but I guess they are lower doses than the more expensive ones? Any suggestions? |

Omega 3s make a big difference for my skin. I can see more dryness when I haven't taken them for a while.
I also believe my Zinc and antioxidants (geen tea, resveratrol etc are helping) |

I'm using vitamin K, hyaluronic acid caps from nature's way and antioxidant formula from nature's way too.
The antioxidant formula contains high doses of vitamin A, E, and C plus other vitamins.
Vitamin A and E are fatsoluble which means that the body stores these vitamins (I think in the liver).
To avoid liver damage and other organ damage from vitamins I decided to give my body a rest from fatsoluble vitamin. I use the vitamins for a month or 45 days and then give my body a rest for 7days. |

Just be careful with zinc, it made me really nauseas and one time I threw up from it.
I had no idea about high levels of biotin causing acne. What is considered a 'safe' (as in non-acne causing) level? I really like it for my hair, but I don't want nice hair and bad skin!
I also us HA supplements (for lip plumping), and they do really work. They're pretty expensive for upkeep though, so I think I'll maybe just take them for a week before big events! |

Seems like that evening primrose helps to improve the skin, but i can't take or vit E for that matter, or i'll get zits the next day . So, i rely on vit C, the ocassional royal jelly (when budget alllows) and ... lots of water !! |

Doing a Google search, Biotin is classified as a B vitamin, aka Vit H or B7. It's water-soluble and deficiencies are rare. I'm taking 1,000 mcg (micrograms) per day to see if it'll help my hair and nails. So far not much results after 4 months
If it works for hair and nails, Zinc sounds like something I should be taking too. And that other side-effect ... |

MSM and Vitamin C are used in the process of building skin cells.
Start with 500mg of MSM per day and increase by 500mg per week until you reach about 3 grams per day and take half that amount in vitamin c per day. |

I take the following supplements:
2 alpha lipoic acid
2 MSM + silica (a hair/skin/nails formula)
2-3 flaxseed oil (3 if I can remember, usually 2)
2 hyaluronic acid
2 evening primrose oil
1 multivitamin
I've been taking the multivitamin, MSM+silica, hyaluronic acid and evening primrose for a few months now and haven't noticed a huge difference in my skin, though I no longer get my weird little dry patches (though my hair got really long, really quick and the HA is definitely helping to plump my lips). But I'm thinking of the supplements more as "insurance" since I don't always maintain the most nutritious or balanced diet.
I began taking the ALA and flaxseed oil in the past week, since I'd heard good things and don't mind adding a few more pills to the daily regimen. I do have to look into EFA pills so I could cut down a bit, though. |

Itake a bunch of vitamins geared toward hair but now I've added Vitamin C crystals 3 grams a day at least. Reading that will help me more than the topical vitamin C. Plus the many other bennefits it offers. Honest to god, I never saw that glow from the topical, but I have seen an improvement since taking it internally. Tastes great mixed with juice. AND one less thing to add to my face. |

Overdoing certain types of Vit A can de-mineralize your bones, but I believe it's just retinol palmitate (sp?), not beta-carotine which has no known negative side effects. |

i am also taking hyaluronic acid thanks to katee , vitamin e, and soon will be taking coq10. |
