I just love shea butter because it is so all-purpose, natural, soothing, and moisturizing. You can use it for just about anything. It's a great moisturizer for dry skin; it's an ingredient in many cosmetics, and skin care; you can use it as a conditioner or pomeade for hair.... I mostly use it as a lip balm. I'll review 2 kinds.

L'Occitane 100% shea butter. This is my favorite. L'Occitane works with a women's collective in Burkina Faso in W. Africa who harvest the Shea butter. This company is so conscious, most of their products have braille on their packaging! This shea butter comes in different size tins; I usually buy the tiny tin (the size of a small round lip balm container) so it fits conveniently in my makeupbag. You have to rub the shea butter between your fingers, so it becomes soft and then massage it to your lips. This has no scent, and is so nourishing and conditioning. It's also great to use under colored balms, or lipsticks. I've been using it every day and night, and it's really been a lifesaver this winter. I'm about to finish my second container, and I think I may have to buy the bigger container, or the tiny 3 pack.

Another shea butter that's nice, and much softer to use is by Nilotica Botanicals. I bought a nice size sample for $1.75 from wwwcosmeticswithoutsynthetics and I'm still using it. This one is made with organic shea butter, vitamin A, C, and E. It has more of a shea butter smell to it. And because it's so shiny and silky, it makes a great lip gloss. Wink

Hey Thoughtcrime *waves* Very Happy

I've got one of those teeny tiny pots of the L'Occitane 100% Shea Butter and I have to say that it's really good. I generally use it on elbows or any dry spots that come up. I used to use it as a lipbalm but the scent of the Decleor lipbalm over the unscented Shea Butter is just too much of a temptation Smile

Btw, could someone once and for all please "tell" me how the word 'shea' is pronounced? (difficult to describe I know...)

Hey Thoughtcrime and Mabsy ! Wink

Shea is pronounced 'shay' .... I used to think it was said as it's spelt as well until I heard it from one of the lovely girls at L'occitane.Very Happy

I absolutely love L'occitane Thoughtcrime, for their ecological philosophy, quality and world-consciousness in the harvesting of their products. Shopping in their stores is also such a pleasurable experience, just love the ambience in there and 'rustic' feel of the place, it's a calming retreat from everyday frantic-ness.Smile and you know how much I love French products... If anything, the non-online * spam alert * I have would be L'occitane products-- you're so tempted to buy everything.

I also love using their Shea Butter on my feet at night before I put them into kitten socks for really soft baby smooth feet. I wear a lot of open toed shoes in the summer so try to keep my toes and heels in good condition. The shea butter is such an excellent moisturiser for really DRY skin, but I'm a sucker for fragrant body moisturisers-- they make you feel like you're enveloped in lovely smooth 'second' skin (I'm onto the one from Phytomer :P)

Have you tried the L'occitane shower gels?? My Lord, heaven !!.... their Verbena one and the Purifying Foaming Bath with Lemon, Cardamon and Eucalyptus essential oils are both my favourites... I actually bought one of their giant (whole) sea sponges to use in the shower-- love the aromas that waft around you when the foams hit the shower floor...The one with the Eucalyptus in it is so good for when you're feeling a little blocked up and stuffy and a great pre-bedtime shower......it's a wonder I take forever in the shower !! :P

When I was on holidays in France last year, the Honey Gentle Water fragrance from their Honey Harvest had just been launched and I kick myself for not going back to the shop to buy it.... it was gorgeous !!! and it does really remind you of your child hood, just a really gentle, happy fragrance.... Smile

Oh Summertimegirl, I shall call you my " take forever in the shower" twin. Hello, twin "water sister", thanks for this awsome review of one of my favorite activity "taking shower".

I always prefer a shower than a bath, for one reason, you are more active and you can ...sing.

I have to try these wonderful L'Occitane Shower Gels and of course with that biggest sea sponge.

By coincidence, I've read today on msnluxury.com an article with this title " A $120,000. Shower" about a company which designs and custom-makes your shower room ( if you have this kind of disposable money).

One of the designs which I love to have ( if I ever can strike it rich by winning a jackpot) is: A WATERFALL SHOWER, in that you will feel like taking a shower under a waterfall !!!

My oh! my...Can you imagine...I will be as happy as a Clown fish forever in my shower!

L'Occitane 100% shea butter.

Which stores carry the L'Occitane? I've been purchasing from sheabutterplus.com online as there isn't a local store here that carries anything with shea butter. I love the shea soaps.

Not sure about the US, but in Australia L'Occitane has its own stores plus it is also sold in some dept. stores.

Yes, in US, L'Occitane has its own stores (Indianna) but I have never seen this product line in dept stores though.
