Thanks to Skincare (http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=16057&highlight=kate+somerville) I found myself wondering throught the kate somerville website. I was interested in quite a few products. I receive three samples and I thought I would give you a mini review of each.

The first is the Kate in a Jar. here is what their site has to say..

The next best thing to seeing Kate at the Clinic. Treat yourself to a KS signature Facial at home. ~Fruit enzymes clarify skin by removing dead cells and eliminating bacteria ~ Highly effective in combating acne, including stubborn blackheads ~ Helps fade discoloration~ Polishes skin, revealing a smooth, glowing complextion.

What can I say, I really this product. It is like a combination of JB Green Apple peel, Jan Marini SkinZyme Cleanser, and a manual scrub. It stings slightly when you are massaging it in, very similiar the the sensation I get when I use JB green apple peel. The results are as good as when I use the green apple peel. The best part is that you only need to massage it in for about 30 sec. I will definitely buy this when my GAP is finished (if I can hold out that long Wink

The next product that I tried was the Goat Milk Cream. Kate says...

Sensitive/Combination to Oily For years, Ancient Egyptians used goat milk to heal and nurture skin. Our delicate, daily moisturizer, enriched with nourishing goat milk proteins, vitamins & amino acids, similarly helps soothe & condition skin for optimum moisture balance and renewal. ~Natural lactic acid gently exfoliates and renews skin ~ Calms and rejuvenates sensitive, distressed or post treatment skin ~ Witch hazel naturally fights harmful bacteria

This is one that I really wanted to try. Unfortunately, it was too heavy for my very oily skin. It was recommended for me to use it in the mornings. I used it for the first time at night. My face was so oily/greasy in about 10 min. I ended up having to wipe most of it off. I tried it the next night on my neck. I did like it there, it is similar to Jan Marini's bioglycolic night cream. I am on the fence about using this product.

Deep Tissue Repair...

YOUR ANSWER TO AGELESS BEAUTY! Experience the power & precision of the most advanced anti-aging ingredients at work. This age-defying treatment was formulated by Kate with…Renew, Restore, Results…in mind! It instantly softens & strengthens skin, promoting a supple & velvety complexion. Watch surface lines & wrinkles lift away as this proprietary formulation, blending Peptide K8 with collagen builders, penetrates deeply to encourage cellular repair & reverse damage. Promote collagen & elasticity with this wonder in anti-aging….and witness an undeniable transformation to firmer, radiant, younger-looking skin. ~ Notice a dramatic difference in skin texture & moisture balance after ONE use!~ Helps to reduce depth, density, & volume of wrinkles ~ Deeply penetrates for ultimate cell recovery ~ Instantly smoothes & corrects rough, dry & flaky ~ Prevents water loss & maintains the skin’s natural moisture

This product was recommended as a night time moisturizer. It seems very interesting and is the #1 seller. I will you know the results when I do try it.

I did order the Detox Daily Cleanser and the Blemish Be Gone (similar to Bario Madescu's Drying lotion) I debated between the detox and the purifying cleanser. I will probably end up getting the other to try.

abejita thanks for the reviews, I am also looking forward to your review of the Deep Tissue Repair.

I have been considering the Goat Milk Cream but it seems like it might be too heavy for oily skin. Do you usually prefer light creams or serums? Or do you like fairly substantial creams? I am wondering if this will be too rich for me, even though I don't usually mind richer creams.

Does the Kate in a Jar contain salicylic acid? Also, how grainy is it? I don't like to use scrubs unless the grains are almost undetectable but it sounds like this one is grainy.

I looked on their website and it says Quench is there #1, but on the brochure that I got it says the deep tissue is...who knows.

Ok, lets see if I can answer some questions Confused

The Kate in a Jar (KiaJ) does have grains, but I don't find them too harsh or large. If you have used the cellcosmet exfoliator, they are about the same size and texture as those beads (the KiaJ does NOT have the same texture as the cellcosmet, just the same size exfoliating beads) It doesn't have salicylic acid in it. It uses papaya enzymes and retinyl palmate. It is actually quite strong. The SA that I spoke with said that the Enzyme Scrub and Mask had the same ingrediants as the KiaJ, but it was not as strong.

The Goat Milk Cream has lactic acid in it. It says that it is a cream, but it is actually more of a lotion. It did not feel heavy at all. My skin is extremely oily and it has been a little funky lately. I intend to try it again when my face calms down a bit. I prefer light creams and gels just because my skin is so oily. My current favs are cellcosmet preventive day cream, Amore Pacific's HydraGel, but some nights I don't even use a moisterizer and I never use one during the day. I really don't think that this lotion would be too heavy for someone with combo or even slightly oily skin. I am really considering the goat milk body lotion.

Ok, the Deep Tissue Repair. I have used this for a couple of nights. It is really nice. It is very light, almost serum like. I can't say that I noticed 'a dramatic difference in skin texture and moisture balance after one use' like they say in their brochure. Like I said, my face has been a bit funky lately. This has helped with the redness and my face looks much calmer after putting it on. My face feels like matte velvet. It is very similar to AP Stabalizing serum if you have ever tried that, although the AP serum costs less, but the AP serum doesn't claim to do as many things as the Deep Tissue Repair. I have two good sized sample tubes. I want to give it a fair trial, so I think that I am going to set it aside for a bit until my face calms down and then try it exclusively for a month or so. It is nice, but I'll have to have pretty substansive results after that month to get it. If the results are still just 'pretty nice' that wouldn't be worth the $150 price tag.

I also actually ordered the detox cleanser and the Blemish Be Gone. The detox cleanser is very nice (I have used it only once) It is a gel that smells very citrisy. It has Phytic acid in it to help with fading acne marks and scars and a host of essential oils that helps kill acne causing bacteria. It didn't strip my face at all. It is also relatively well priced at $28 for a 4oz tube. I really had my eye on the purify cleanser with lactic and syliclic acids, but I ended up going with the detox because of my current misbehaving face. The SA sent me a sample of the purifying cleanser.

The Blemish Be Gone is VERY similar to Mario Badescu's drying lotion. I believe that the MB drying lotion has calamine in it and this doesn't.

The SA also sent me samples of their spf 30 sunscreen and the clearing mask. she said the clearing mask can be used as a spot treatment for any acne spots that you have coming up.

I am going to try the sunscreen tomorrow. I don't have high expectations for it (for me at least) I have tried a million sunscreens and very few are suitable for my oily skin. The absolute best one that I have found is Shiseido, I try others, but I always go back to this one. But I am thinking that it may be a good replacement for my husband who has fallen for the expensive AP sunscreen. The KS sunscreen costs much less.

I tried the sample set last year.

Daily wash
- Nice, but I don't notice much. I prefer to use DERMADoctor Wrinkle Revenge #2 and Avene cold cream cleanser.

Nourish - Nice, but didn't notice anything.

Quench - This reminded me very much like Skinceuticals B5 gel. Since B5 is cheaper - I prefer to use that ... excellent on the plane and dry, winter days.

Total Vitamin Serum - again, another nice but I don't notice a thing.

Enzyme scrub and mask - This is my favorite of the line. Very fine scrub and works fast. I like this better than any enzyme masks because it is a combo - scrub and enzyme. Hubby used this one night. He left it on too long and his face was red ... but the next morning it was soft and the texture/skin tone was amazing.

Blemish be gone - I think this is the same as the Bandescu drying lotion. Alcohol on top/pink stuff on botton. Stick cotton swab into bottom and apply to face.

Goat Milk Lotion
- The one I got was the body lotion. It was very nice, sunk in well and had a pleasant light smell but it's rather expensive.

Some nice stuff but nothing that made a huge difference that I would order online again.

Anyone who has used both Kate in a Jar -and- the Enzyme Scrub & Mask....

is the Enzyme Scrub & Mask more gentle than Kate in a Jar? I want to buy one or the other of these after I use up my current scrubs/exfoliators, but I am concerned about my sensitive skin doing better with one over the other.

I use Avene Retrinal 0.025% every night, if that helps you answer.

Is there a "best place" to buy Kate Somerville products online? I would love to find it a little cheaper, but I also want to make sure I'm buying from a high-turnover place, so I don't get "old" merchandise.

I asked the SA this same question. She said the enzyme scrub (kate in a jar) and the mask had basically the same ingrediants, but the KinaJ was stronger.

Thanks for answering abejita . I've been using KIAJ and loving it. However, I do set a timer for just 20 seconds so that by the time I have it washed off, I haven't left it on my skin too long overall. I will try the enzyme mask if I run into problems with KIAJ, based on your posts.

Does the enzyme mask come in same type of pump jar as KIAJ?

I submitted a skin consultation request but never received a reply! I can't say I have a very good first impression of their customer service. It makes me hesitant to order from them. They also don't have shipping rates posted anywhere on the site! Confused

How long ago did you submit it? You can always call and tell them or try again. I did my consultation questionnaire at the time I placed my first order. I received an e-mail about a week later with the results of the consultation, along with a printout of the same info when my order arrived -- including nice samples (that I didn't order, but were part of the consultation recommendations). So far, I like KS customer service.

I have revisited my KS samples...and I think I have fallen in Shock

My face has been breakout free, but it was getting really red, irritated, rough and it seemed like it was getting oilier by the day. About that time, Skincare PMed me asking about some of the KS products I had tried. I started reading reviews on Makeup Alley. I thought...what the heck, I am going to try the samples again.

I used samples of KIAJ, Goat Milk Cream and the Deep Tissue repair. In, no kidding, two or three days, my face had calmed down, redness and irritated was gone and my face was smooth smooth. And miracle of all miracles, my super oily skin has normalized. I am now getting a little sheen around noon (as compared to an hour after washed my face). I do not know if any one product was responsible for the change or if it was the combination. After using the samples for a week, I decided to purchase the full sizes. I can really see myself clearing out my cabinate for these products...I haven't been this wowed since I started using vitamin c products!!

Sorry, I meant use it on your pimples as an overnight treatment to get rid of it. Cellcosmet SA told me that you could use their facial scrub as a on the spot treatment.

I guess you could try, but I suspect that it might irritate you more than help. The best thing I have found is to spot treat with mario badescu/kate sumerville spot treatment or yonka juvenil.

Sounds good! I used to use Sonya Dakar magic potion but it's a hassel to order from them. Will try Mario Badescu. I think KS discontinued their spot treatment.
