Hi Pinkpaperdoll,
Just to clarify, what six products of Nuderm are you purchasing? Also, if you've never used retin a before, I would start off with the 0.025% cream. You can always move up in strength at a later date. |

Hi kims! thanks 4 d response! im planning to get the one with exfoderm and sunfader, without the healthy skin protection spf 35.. ive used retin a before but my acne got worse! but many people were saying its just normal to get worse at first.. i dont know.. so what's ur advice? just use the 0.025 initially? |

My case 0.025 doesn't work for me. It was too weak. So I bumped it up 0.05.
Then I started peeling.
But everybody is different. Generally most of them are in this forum using 0.05 I think. hope it will help. |

This is the Obagi Nuderm protocol that I used:
A.M
Nuderm Cleanser
Nuderm Toner
Clear -- 1gram
Exfoderm Forte --1/2 gram
Sunfader
Sunscreen/Obagi (later switched to NIA24)
P.M.
Nuderm Cleanser
Nuderm Toner
Clear -- 1gram
Blender --1/2gram mixed with 0.025% Retin A -- 1gram (later bumped up Retin A to 0.050%
I hope this helps! Rileygirl is a forum member who really knows Nuderm inside and out. Hopefully, she'll pop in and make some suggestions for you as well. Good Luck. |

Hi Pink,
The recommended amount of time for Nuderm is 18 weeks. What skin care issues are you trying to address? |

Obagi may not solve your problems completely, but many people do report some improvement with acne scars. It should definitely help with tone and texture.
Have you visited with a derm in regards to the scarring? |

really? were there cases that deep or ice pick scars have been improved by obagi? well i hope it will work on mine too, even juz a bit..
are there posts here in EDS with regards to it?
yeah, i went to a dermatologist and asked about the scarring.. 6 years ago, i actually went to Dr. Belo (the most popular derma in the Philippines because most of her clients are Filipino celebrities).. Anyway, since i still have a lot of breakouts by then, she advised to me use Obagi Nu-derm to clear my skin first.. She told me she couldn't tell what procedure would best solve my scarring problems until i get my skin totally clear..
after 2 months of visiting her clinic, i stopped.. LOL! i wasnt able to get into the scarring-problem-solving phase.. |

As far as I know, Obagi will not help with ice pick scars. I think you would definitely have to do other things for that skin problem. Obagi will help with acne, and aging skin, and especially works for hyperpigmentation. |

So Ive been using Obagi since April 7th. I have seen NO improvement. Im really starting to get concerned. If anything, the red spots left behind from my acne have gotten worse. Also, since starting Obagi, I have HORRIBLE breakouts right beneath my cheeks(on my neck) both sides. Has anyone else had this problem? I am REALLY stressing out about it and am definitely bummed that Im not seeing any results yet. |

Tara, are you using all the products and are you using the correct amount of products? You are still very early on at only 5 weeks, and probably won't see results a while yet. The breakouts can be normal. Are you under a derms/esty's care? If so, you really should go see them. Your neck is breaking out? Are you using the products on your neck and how often? |

Yes Im using the products exactly as it says. I dont use the products on my neck but its possible that during my routine I get some of the product on my neck. Its really right under my jawline. Horrible! Im not under a derm, its actually my primary care doctor who prescribed Obagi. Im just going to have to go see her. |

Mmmm.. no, not at all, but I'm on the dry side.
I can understand all the irritation the Exfoderm and Retin-A bringing on to old scars for some time, but even then my old acne scar got smaller, while I had a huge irritation around my mouth. I think you are having some kind of reaction to the products. It's best to see a dermatologist at this point. You have invested too much in these products already and Obagi is very good for hyper-pigmentation. Maybe he/she can tell you what to do in order to continue. Also, maybe you can post exactly how is your method of applying and amounts you are using? and if you are using something else?
Hope it gets better. |

So, you are using 1 gram of Retin A mixed with 1/2 gram of Blender, and 1 gram of Clear twice a day, etc.?
Yep, I would go see your PCP and have them look at your skin. You probably are having a normal reaction with the breakouts. And, again, you are very early on to see much if any results in the way of fading pigmentation. Good luck. |

Tara--you and I are about at the same point in the Obagi process and while I have seen improvements primarily in hyperpigmentation, I have seen some improvements in skin texture and tone. They are, however, difficult to discern under the redness and flakiness. If you are using the products correctly, you may also have improvement but just can't yet tell due to the inflammation and other side effects. |

Thanks Kristy! Its funny you say that. Right after the post on my redness, I could start to see an improvement the very next day. The redness has gone down significantly. The breakouts under my jaw are actually starting to clear up a little aswell. I have made sure over the past few days to keep the Obagi products on my face ONLY. I still went ahead and made an appointment to go see my doctor, just so she can tell me how Im progressing. I know I have a long way to go, but after years of wanting pretty, clear skin..the day when I have my "dream skin" cannot come soon enough! Keep me posted on how things are going with your Obagi, Kristy |

Paperdoll, Im 24 too. Ive had acne since I was 19. I cannot remember the last time I had clear skin. Its such a pain, especially when my boyfriend and all my friends have pretty skin. My derm put me on an oral ance medication called Doryx in November. 95% of the breakouts on my face cleared up, just a few minor ones here and there. I have stayed on that while doing Obagi, and no breakouts on my face. Like Ive said previously, just breakouts on my necckline(which is so bizarre to me bc Ive never had that happen before) I bought Obagi to help clear the red spots left behind from my acne and to even out my skin tone. Keeping fingers crossed I have the results everyone else has. If you do go through with Obagi, good luck! |

hi Tara! Im so glad to have found u here! i really think we're on the same boat.. I had the same feeling as well. My husband and friends also have a very clear skin and i sometimes feel uncomfortable when im with them.. Last October 2009, my dermatologist put me under Accutane, its an oral treatment too. And then on my 8th week on Accutane, i found out im pregnant(which is actually not allowed during the treatment and even 8 months AFTER the last take of Accutane), so i stopped taking such medication remembering that pregnancy is an contraindication of accutane.. so I stopped taking the medication at once and i wasnt able to finish the whole Accutane course.. Just to share to u my miracle story, i went to doctors in the Philippines and here in U.S. to seek advice with regards to my pregnancy and they all adviced therapeutic abortion because of the very high possibilities (99%) of birth defects Accutane might cause to the fetus.. Well, i decided to continue the pregnancy in spite of all the doctor's advice, hoped and prayed for the best and now, i have a very healthy and normal baby! Now, i wanna try my luck again with Obagi.. So, how long have u been on Obagi? |
