Hi everyone,
I just ordered from EDS some SkinCeuticals products, namely Serum 15, Hydrating B5 gel, Daily Sun Defence SPF 20 and Renew Overnight (the Skin System 2 PROTECT kit).
Just want to know is it safe to use Vit. C and AHA/Glycolic Acid together? The reason being is I have had bad experience with AHA. 2 years ago I used Guinot Biological Peel (enzyme peel) and Yonka Fruitelia (AHA lotion) and my face was burnt. At the age of 30, I know I should start some anti-aging skincare regime and AHA/Glycolic Acid is often recommended... but I am not sure what are some good anti-aging products to go with SkinCeuticals. What about MD Formulations? I have a bottle of Facial Cleanser (the one that comes with the Bare Escentuals makeup kit)... can I use that (with Glycolic Acid) with Serum 15?
I am sorry if this message sounds confusing... because I am really confused! Thanks for listening/reading! |

Hmmm...I personally use MD Glycare Gel and Retin-A together -- The result? Peeling, dry (but clearer) skin. Both are drying for the skin, but proven to help against aging skin...Same with Vit. C and AHA...A lot of companies sell lower percentages of the product in the mixture...For example...With my MD Gel, it is only 5%, and they also have a 10%...Same witht the levels of Vitamin C...
Just don't go sooo low that they will have no effect on the wrinkles whatsoever...If you have very sensitive skin, try switching products every other day...I'm not sure if that works though... |

This is one fav website I often go to ... to search for info...
http://www.dermadoctor.com/pages/newsletter80.asp?WID=%7B73735205%2D4729%2D11D8%2D919C%2D0002B330452B%7D
Technically, Vit C is also a form of AHA (citric acid) but it is also an anti-oxident. However, some folks are sensitive to AHAs, so if you are layering products (one on top of another), you may want to do a patch test to make sure you do not have an allergy.
The only thing that I am aware of is Vit C and Copper Peptide products, as they render each other useless.
other FYI, when you do a peel on your face (glyco/latic/enzyme) , usually it is recommended NOT to use any other Acid (or skin peeling stuff including retinols) stuff on your face immediately or the same time, you have to let your skin recovers and get back it's "normal phase".. if it makes sense.
Hope this helps... and "de-confused" you

Catlee,
I'm currently using a 20% vit C serum (with hydrating gel over it and then moisturiser) in the morning and then glycolic/salicylic acid products at night. I haven't had any problems with that at all.

Hi, all:
I have a question for you all ... I am just wondering what does Vit C do for the skin? I heard of different vitamins for skincare, like vitamin A(retinol), C, E, etc. I know that they are basically anti-oxidants against free radicals (anti-aging), but how would you choose the strength of the product? Would you recommend vit C pdt for a person at early 20s? (like me)..also, b/w all those vitamin varities, which one(s) would you recommend more? Thanks a lot! |
