Hi - Just wondering if anyone has started using Skinceuticals Retinol 0.5 at night, and how are you finding it? I've just bought CE Ferulic, Phyto Corrective Gel and Eye Renewal Gel in the hope of giving my skin a good boost! I'm working off Dr. Baumann's ORPW list...this isn't one of her products, but it looks convincing! Any findings please... |

Hello, I just ordered the retinol and the Phyto + sample 6 packs off ebay. I have only used the retinol 3 nights, I use it every other night, alternating with the Phyto +. So far, so good, no irritation. Do you use the phyto + in the day? I also just ordered the Topix retinol 3X that Dr. Baumann suggested. I am a dspw, but I am borderline on the dry and the sensitive type. I am defintaley pigmented, as I have melasma on my forehead, and I scar easily. I am going to use up my samples of the skinscueticals and then use the Topix. |

Hi jordan1212 and dchickb - I just wanted to warn you that when I used the SC .5% Retinol samples, my skin tolerated it well enough. But when I bought the full-sized product, it was stronger and irritated my skin! I couldn't use it more than 2-3X/wk. And in the dead of winter, even less. But I'm sensitive to retinoids in general.
Now I use it as a spot treatment for acne. The dryness and peeling it causes me can quickly clear up anything that's beginning to emerge. |

Hi Girls - Only used the retinol twice. Seemingly, you're not supposed to use Phyto with it, as it's in the "correct" regimen, so i use that in the morning instead. I've user C & E Ferulic also in the am, but that's ok to use before the Retinol pm - nothing is simple, is it?! My skin is crappy of late - i'm using everything i'm supposed to, and I think i'm getting more blocked pores by the week - or maybe it's just that i bought a magnifying mirror recently, and EVERYTHING looks hideous when i use it! I'm not of the opinion that you should go to a dermatologist for the slightest thing. Dr B. seems very pro... Here in Ireland, you'd have to have severe skin issues before being referred by a doctor, and can't just make an appointment yourself. So, I'll persevere for now, and hope that the money wasn't badly spent... |

I agree, I don't think you need to see a dr for everything either. In fact they can be behind the times on the latest skincare. I once saw a derm who told me to use ivory soap on my face to clean it. That was no good, totally made my skin feel raw. Some of things they prescribe are too harsh for sensitive skin. Dr. Baumann says retinols are weak, and to use something stronger if possible, but I think the retinol is plenty strong for me right now. |
