My left calf is bigger than my right, and it's constantly sore since I work out daily for 60 minutes. Does anyone know how to reduce calf size? Will botox help? Has anyone tried to use botox to reduce calf size? |

I'm not a medical person, but I think if you were to put Botox in your calf you would have problems walking as it stops the use of your muscle. you might end up with a limp or some problem walking...maybe?
if your muscles are sore try A Vogel arnica gel- it is the best one because it is made w 50% arnica.
it is one of the few gels that actually helpme with muscle pain.
Vitacost is the best place to get it as they have the 100ml size for around $13,everywhere else in Canada they only have the "new" size of 50ml and it is almost $20.
Rub A535 has an arnica gel and it is not as good as it is 15% arnica
I have tried at least 5 arnica gels and the A Vogel one is the best!
For muscle soreness Epson salts is also recomended. |

I would agree with the above. It sounds like you are favoring that leg and over-using it. Couple things to try:
Be conscientious about not favoring that leg when exercising
When excercising try using your quads more when pushing off / jumping instead of the calf.
If you are running/walking, focus more on pulling yourslf forward with hamstrings and heel rather than pushing off with toe and calf.
When exercising make sure you are properly hydrated and that when finished, make sure you stretch your calves. |

I also forgot, if your heel or leg is sore- maybe you need beter shoes or else some custom orthotic inserts.
I had some made as they were reccomended as I was having a lot of inflamation in one heel and it was very painful to walk-even though I never buy "cheap" shoes and always have supports in my shoes that was not enough.
I went to a specialist place that was reccomended in my city and they had a very long waiting list as they are good.
it was a store that also fit prosthetics for legs and other mobility things.
I was also told to go to a orthopedic surgeon for an assesment to make sure I did not have anything else.
I was told there was a slight problem with one of my legs being a bit shorter (you can not tell at all but apparently that affected my heel).
-it was something like 1/4" or less difference...
I also had some inflamation probably from a sports injury and was given pensaid liquid to apply to my heel.
That did not work for me cuz what the hospital has given me was 6 months expired at least...
-i did not think to check the date on the packages the local hospital gaveme.
I am very vigilant w checking the dates on all my food and even go as far as making sure my juice is sealed under the lid any time I buy some.... |

Maybe you should visit a dr. It could be larger due to swelling. If you workout regularly your calf shouldn't always be sore. |

Thanks all. All of you are giving great advice.
I'm embarrassed to admit I went ahead and tried the botox in my calf. I was in pain and was hoping it will help reduce the tightness in my calf. The doctor said he did it for other patients and they all got good results to reduce their calves.
I also got it injected in my jaws to reduce the squared jawline.
So I know everyone must think I'm a freak.
Anyway, I am probably the ginnea pig. I have not known anyone personally to try this.
There's nothing to feel yet in my jaws. Results will not show for another month.
Last night my left calf was hurting for a couple of hours, but it's ok now.
I was limping while it was hurting.
Today I can walk normally except my sore ankle (not from botox). |

Yes I think Botox can be used safely to reduce the size of your calves. Here in Asia Botox is marketed to reduce "radish calves", basically chunky legs. It's actually very popular, because Asians don't like the muscled "toned" look at all-- everybody wants chicken legs here HTH! |

Thank you fat swan. Which country in asia do they use botox to reduce calf size? This is good to know I'm not crazy. My calf muscles tend to bunch up. I do walk a lot and started running a lot, too, but now my ankle is sore. I think it's the tendon that is inflamed from too much running. |

It's very common in HK, Singapore and Malaysia. I see print advertisements everywhere, and even on official Botox pamphlets at the derm office. |

Hi Fat Swan,
Would you happen to have met anyone who got it done? I wish I knew someone who did this before. I wonder if they had to get the botox injections several times before they see any reduction of the calves. What about the jawline? |

So for the jawline Botox can make your face look thinner?
That does sound interesting as I have always had a very round face or "chubby cheeks".
(I actually get comments from random strangers once in a while and it is super annoying).
For tight calves would a massage or massage therapy help?
I know I get very bad knots in my shoulders and only going to a massage therapist helped with that (I keep on wanting to go back...and never get around to it). |

nope, the massages didn't help at all. I tried that a lot, and the knots didn't go away. I also tried stretching my calves all the time, too. None of that helped me. So I'm hoping botox will help.
Regarding botox to reduce the jawlines, well, I don't see any reduction yet, but supposedly if your muscles along your jaws are strong and big, botox can help the muscles to become weak and get smaller. That would be nice for my case since I got big muscles and squared jaws. The reduction will help to soften my face up and look more feminine. :P |

I measured my calves this morning, and both calves decreased 0.5 cm. I doubt it's from botox. Probably more from decreased activity on my legs since I've been staying off exercising my lower body to allow my injured ankle time to recover. |
