Ladies, any ideas where I can find a 20x magnifying mirror? I have a 1x, 5x, and 10x, but want the 20x to really look into my pores as I'm going to try the Skintactix (sp?) blackhead dissolving potion and really want to see if its working.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks so much!

I got mine off of ebay, I really hate looking into it though Embarassed. Try those bed/bath/home stores or beauty supply stores if you don't want to order online.

I think Ulta sells them, Walmart too. My hubby accidently broke mine and although I miss it for makeup application, I have to say that I dont miss seeing every flaw at 20X the magnifiaction! Laughing

I'm not sure about the mirror, but Skintactix is useless! My niece used the whole acne line and got nothing out of it. I must say that Proactive worked wonders for her though, although I know it does not work for everyone. Sad

You are braver than me. I also have 5x and 10x mirrors which I use mostly for mascara application, but a few years back a derm showed me my skin in a mirror which I'm guessing was 20x or more and I was instantly depressed. And, up until that point I thought I had pretty good skin, well I did until I looked into that damned mirror....

Are you in the States? If so, you might try Linens 'n Things. They have an extensive collection of bathroom "stuff" like mirrors, etc.

Not me either. I stay away from those mirrors. I just wait until I get in my car in the sunlight, to take a quick peek at my makeup application. Otherwise, I will pick, squeeze, rub and everything else. Then my skin will be destroyed.

Well I've been on the hunt for a magnifying mirror since I saw this thread a while back and it's been in the back of my mind.

Have yet to see a 20x mirror in any department store but interesting revelation today. I was in Harrods looking into various ones. They had a 10x one (most were 3x or 5x) which was strong and the lady said was strongest. Then for some reason I asked (what I thought was a stupid) question saying I assumed all brands would be the same and it would be about the magnifying x. And she said hmmmm yes and no, actually a couple of their 5x ones were stronger than the 10x. I compared one of the 5x ones she was talking about with the 10x and she was right - I could see more things on the 5x. Apparently made of Venetian plate glass whilst the 10x was made out of cheaper glass. Quite pricy though.

That is interesting Daisy. I have learnt something new. I have a magnifying mirror & it is great for plucking eyebrows. Other than that I hate it because it just makes everything look more wrinkled & more imperfect. I get stress from ordinary mirrors & do try to avoid them at all times.

Daisylondon, that IS interesting.

I never found a 20x mirror. Best I could find was a 15x that I got off eBay, but it was one of those little round mirrors about 3 inches across and the reality is that its terrible to look into because its size is too small to compensate for the distortion. I did find a 15x that was a lot larger - it was lighted and had a stand and everything, but it was a couple hundred USD. I still plan on purchasing it.

And yes, everything does look pretty scary that close up. Oh, well!

Hey MermaidGirl - Why not try a 10X mirror while wearing 2X reading glasses??? I have a 5X and when I want an even closer look, this is what I do and it works well for me. If you JUST want to see if the product is effective, this could do the trick.

Great idea, April! If I could, I'd get a 50x mirror! I'd love the idea of being able to see into my pores. I know, I'm a dork!

Cool, glad I wasn't the only one who didn't know!

This expensive one was a pull out one you had to affix to a wall and it had a lovely in-built light which also had an impact on what you could see. I guess one could have it hard-wired when putting in a new bathroom. It was gold-plated too as the SA said that was another reason it was a lot pricier, though I'm not into that sort of finish. I can't remember how much it was, I think it was £140 (which is not that much more than a couple of hundred bucks) but I am not sure, doesn't actually seem that much thinking about it. I asked her about a tabletop one one of that strength and she only had one (nice chrome one with magnifying on one side with flip to normal) though I didn't check the price. I will pop in this week and check.

I am tempted on the tabletop one but my cats are very active so perhaps I should just get the tabletop 3x one I saw for £10 in Peter Jones (on offer) the other day. Though it certainly didn't show how not quite right I'd done my mascara the way today's one did...

God you girls are bad.. I hardly wore make up then I started coming here and now I'm checking my mascara in magnifying mirrors in department stores...not sure I even knew they existed 9 months ago..

I meant to ditto what daisylondon talked about -- there's a huge difference in optical grades of mirrors and the best ones generally don't come cheap. Irving Rice is a good brand.

True, but just think if you can get your eyes to look nice in one, how nice it will look from further away!

Now that this thread I started has been resurrected, I must admit that I find its all-caps title to be quite startling. Its like I'm yelling! True, this was the very first post I put up on this forum, but I just thought a belated apology for the bad netiquette was better than none at all. Embarassed
