I love coffee. I used to have an enormous mug every morning. At one point, I needed an extra fix halfway into the day or else I'd get a headache. Now, however, it makes me sicker than a dog. I've been going through some stomach problems, and coffee is just too potent for me to handle. I've heard that you should limit it to two cups a day, though. Or 21 oz.
Lately I've been drinking soy coffee. Yes, you head me right. Soy coffee. I found it at the health food store. It's a mixture of columbian beans and ground soy beans. It has half the caffiene of regular coffee, 5g of soy protein per serving, and is much easier on my stomach. It's taste? Well, it ain't Kona that's for sure. But it tastes more like coffee than green tea, which I was getting sick of.
But Milodomi, you should purchase a french press to make your coffee, and buy your beans whole and grind them yourself. This is how coffee purists do it. I did it for awhile, but it's too much work! You could also visit a coffee house that does its own roasting to ensure freshness.
But I still doubt it will be as fabulous as French coffee. |

hey yes for a while i tried to stick with soy instead of milk..since i don't have a good stomach either but it's been getting better within the last few years
anyway, but i hated the taste of soy latte..maybe it isn't so bad yet it tasted so weird
so i just try to stick with one cup per day now and recent study is saying that coffee is good for you (up to two cups per day??)
but then it's only black coffee
now i go to a coffee house where they do their own roasting, so their coffees r fresh and come in a small china cup instead of those supersize cups at starbucks
actually vietnamese french coffee is sort of similar to french coffee |

violetanne I have been thinking about getting a french press for a while now. Does it really make a big difference and in what way?
I drink at least 4 cups of coffee a day. |

Well... the coffee made from a French press is usually stronger; you have to get the ratios right so it doesn't turn bitter. But, really, it doesn't make much of difference at all. I guess some people prefer one so that the coffee isn't passed through the filter paper. I think what makes the biggest difference is the freshness and quality of the coffee used... A french press can be fun, though! You can use it to brew loose leaf tea, too. HTH!
Milodomi-- the coffee I've been drinking is actually ground up soy beans mixed with columbian coffee. I don't put soymilk in it (I never could drink soy in my coffee). I've been putting regular ole vamilla coffeemate in it to cover up that slightly soy-ish taste. |

I grind my own coffee every morning (2 cups) and love organic dark roasts. Lately I've been buying Kicking Horse certified organic, but the brand really doesn't matter to me, as long as it's certified! |

This is weird but I love the smell of coffee but absolutely can't stand the taste! How silly is that? Personally I'm a tea drinker all the way and probably down about 5 or 6 cups a day...I'm not sure but I may be addicted! |

I'm the same way ... love walking past the coffee section but I don't really like the taste. Hurts my tummy and one cup would keep me up for the night. My preference is tea as well. |

I can't function without coffee. If I don't get at least two cups, I'm no good all day. I usually drink around four, though. I, too, love the coffee in France. I like fresh ground beans and using a french press. ...However, since I don't function well in the morning, I don't ever do this. I set the timer on my electric coffee pot. I just mail order Gevalia. I haven't tried anything else in years. Maybe I need to branch out. |

i used to be like that too but the reason y i didn't like drinking coffee is that most coffee give an unpleasant aftertaste..now that i've found a great coffee house, i don't run into that problem
i like tea as well, green tea & robooios..love japanese green tea and high mountain tea from taiwan |

I have to have at least one cup in the morning, and then I usually have another after lunch if the "food coma" sets in. Alas...I've been dealing with heartburn problems recently so I might have to cut it out completely. But I've been drinking a cup in the morning since 10th grade at least (that would be 10 years ago).
I'm hooked and get a super bad headache if I don't have my one cup a day. |

i love my coffee
i'm a three cup a day girl.
sometimes less, sometimes more, but i'd guess that's the average.
mmm.
i have friends who are SERIOUS purists. they buy green beans, roast them themselves in a cast iron frying pan and then grind and brew them.
i'm too lazy for that. |

I usually have two cups of coffee. One at breakfast and one in the morning at work.
I don't suffer from caffeine withdrawal though. |

one cup only (per doc's instructions), but that doesn't stop me from having decaf whenever i feel like it. and, yes, the french cafes even do a mean deca creme!
as for coffee brands, i highly recommend Illy. it's italian and wonderful and i've been drinking it for years. IMO, the coffee from a french press is highly over-rated. again, i chose italian for my method, the bialetti. it makes a strong expresso-like coffee that is never bitter and perfect every time. |

I love coffee and have 2 cups a day or so. We have a local roaster so it's always fresh and I get to tastes lots of variety (much better than Starbucks!). I also love the smell of coffee it might satisfy if I could smell it when drinking green tea!
Actually except for the caffiene and stomach effects coffee is probably good for you. Lots of antioxidants! |

I agree with la vie en rose that a Bialetti is the way to go. I use my Bialetti to make a cup every morning or I'll wind up with a headache by the afternoon... |

Judging from what some of you have said the French Press is overated but it sounds like fun. I may have to get one since they are so inexpensive.
BTW I have a Bialetti and while I don't use this in the morning I will use it for my afternoon coffee. I think that the Bialetti sort of has a cool factor to it! |

actually, i was being kind.... i'd almost rather have instant than coffee made in a french press they are fun to use, though, as long as you don't have to drink the coffee made in it. (she ducks) |

I love coffee but I can't have caffiene so I make myself two lazy latte's a day. One in the morning and one at around 3pm when I fix my husband a double espresso. I make myself a double decaf espresso, and heat about 3 oz of milk in the microwave. I used to froth it but I rarely bother unless we have company. This tastes to me just like the cafe au lait I had in France and the cappuccino I had in Italy.
I read once that the only good coffee at Starbucks is the "short" cappuccino that isn't even on the menu anymore. They want to sell you expensive 16oz designer coffees but the best flavor is the short because you can taste the espresso, not just hot milk and syrups. |

Do any of you actually like the taste of instant coffee or are you just saying that it is better that coffee made with a french press? Personally I gave up instant coffee a long time ago and can't even drink the stuff anymore. I wonder if instant coffee in say France is better that instant coffee in the US which is horrid! If I have offended any instant coffee drinkers just consider my a snob .
vonstella,freefall2; I am not a big fan of Starbucks coffee either. I did notice however that if you buy the beans and make it at home it tastes much better than the stuff you get in the stores!
freefall2 I had read that the "short" is available only by asking and not necessarily at every Starbucks. Several times I asked for this and was told, "we don't do that here". Well I finally found a Starbucks that does do the "short" but of course you need to ask for it as it is not on the menu. The main problem is that the bigger cappuccinos don't have enough espresso in them so if the short is not available I will order the small (tall or whatever the call their smallest size) and have an extra shot of espresso added! |
