So ladies (and gentlemen!), this is my problem. Some of my eyebrow hairs seem to grow straight out and if anyone looks at me from the side ... they look like they are sticking out too far. My boyfriends likes to say they are "pokey". So tonight I was at MAC buying the new Viva Glam lipstick and gloss (which is really pretty BTW!) and I decided to try their Brow Set. It's supposed to help "groom" the brows. I figured this would help things lay more flat and it would be the end of pokey. Well, I put it on, but it never seemed to make any difference, except maybe add a bit of shine.
Are there any other products anyone knows of that can control unruly brows? I trim them as well. I'm wondering if maybe they are so pokey because I have trimmed them a bit (although they aren't short by any means ... they just seem to grow out instead of flat.
It doesn't help that my SO has beautiful brows ... they lay on nice and flat and oh yeah, he also has amazing eyelashes. It's not fair ... |

I keep extra spooley brushes and spray them with a light coating of hairspray. I use that to brush through my brows every day. I've done it since high school, and it works pretty well for me. I get one or two that want to poke out every once in a while, and it seems to keep them under control. |

That works for me too, however, b/c I pluck them, when I do let them grow in I get some hairs that poke out too. Usually it takes a few months before they lay down... |

I use the MAC brow gel (the clear one) and it tames my brows very nicely. |

This is what I usually use too, with some Ardell underneath. Have you noticed that the brow gel last forever? Ive had my tube for a year and it just in the past two weeks ran out. |

If you mean the ones that stick out, where they start, straight up, I cut those with those cosmetic scissor "thingys", to make them even with the other ones. If you mean just stick out, clear mascara works pretty darn good, and it gives them a bit of shine. |

Hi Moonstarr, maybe you can get them professionally done and they will probably trim the excess off. |

My gel seems to be the tardis as I've been using it for about 8 weeks now everyday and hardly made a dent in it. |

smashbox brow wax works great for me. The other product I found that works great is a max. strength hair gel. Just put it on lightly and give it a brush when it's dry to make it a bit more natural looking |

Thanks for the tips. I wonder if I should let my brows grow a bit (and not trim them myself for a bit) and see if when they get a bit longer they will lay down flatter. And I'll continue trying out that MAC Brow stuff I just bought ... maybe it will work better when I don't have shorter brow hairs, or try the hairspray or gel idea.
One of these days I would love to get my brows professionally shaped and then have them trim any hairs that need trimming. Then I could see how it's supposed to be done! |

I had the same problem! I use castor oil now! It's super thick and sticky, it works just as well as anything I've tried with success from Sephora. I use it on my eyelashes too, and it seems to help them grow which I attribute to the folicles keeping moisturized. |

I always brush my eyebrows in place immediately after cleansing AND after applying skin products. I figure, like the hair on your head, if you let them dry in the wrong position they will tend to stay in the wrong position. Also, some skin products seem to act like gel or hairspray, fixing the brows in the wrong position if you let them dry that way.
Some of those waxy stick-type lip balms are also good for holding brows in place. |

I just got the Anastasia eyebrow kit and it has a brow gel on it, (honestly I never used the stencils or the highliner pencil), but the brush, the powder and specially the brow gel are amazing, (it will hold the eyebrows in place). I did also use the smashbox wax and I find it very sticky. |

I'm probably in the minority, but I let my brows run pretty wild. I have really thick, dark ones(kinda like Brooke Shields), and other than tweezing to prevent a uni brow, I don't do much to them. In fact, when I was in college, my mom was buying me electrolysis sessions for the area between my brows, and the woman who did them begged me to let her shape my brows. She said they were beautiful, but she just itched to shape them up. I refused - I guess I had visions of really manicured brows, which I don't care for. I've never been sorry - I like them just the way they are |

Should definitely try getting them trimmed by a professional once in a while, just like a haircut! I don't know what they do, but after some plucking and trimming, the brows wll be tamed and pretty! |

Elizasue, your look is definitely the fashion at the moment! Makeup artist Pat McGrath featured "wild", brushed up brows, similar to Brooke Shields back in the day, at recent runway shows and I've since seen this look being pushed in a couple of fashion/beauty mags.
It probably doesn't matter whether your brows are thick or thin as long as you like the way they look. That's more important than any fashion trend. |
