my dog bobo is a 10 yr old shih tzu..she's always been fairly healthy except for skin problems
within the last couple of days, she appears very tired and sleeps all the time..then she started slipping when she walks..took her to the vet for a blood test and she's got AIHA (autoimmune hemolytic anemia)
which is some kind of immune disorder when the body produces antibodies to fight its own system..i'm probably not explaining this correctly but the fact is that with such condition, her blood cell & hemoglobin level is extremely low..she's been at the vet's for 2 days; the more i read about AIHA on the net, the more i realize that there is a high rate of mortality
she still couldn't walk or struggles to stand..has anyone have dogs with AIHA and can share your experience? |

That's awful. I'm so sorry. Surely there are some dogs who survive this? Keep doing research...that's always good. I wish you luck. |

I'm sorry - I've not got any experience with that problem.
I do hope that your dog gets better soon. |

Milodomi - I just sent good thoughts to bobo in your other thread and I hope she pulls through. Shih tzus are tough little dogs - I have one that is 15 years old and is way more resilient than my husky mix and my border collie. I don't know anything about AIHA, but I would say that information is your best ally and continuing to research the condition can only help. Have you considered a second opinion or a specialist? Good luck, and I hope all turns out well. |

thanks hope, i love your name..i believe there is hope for bobo
i've done lots of research on AIHA, it's one of those disease/disorder which the cause is still unknown..although many ppl link the cause to vaccines & certain types of medications, which might over stimulant the immune system
bobo is in good hands, her vet is excellent and would even take her home over the weekend (on his day off!!) so hopefully she's gonna be a strong little girl and stay strong =) |
