Cutting down on your salt intake might help.

I had a problem a while back. I was dizzy before my period because my body was retaining too much water in my middle ear. The specialist's advice was to cut back on the amount of salty food eg chips, bacon etc and he was prescribed a diuretic pill.

I have always heard that drinking a lot of water helps water retention.

I notice the same...what has helped me is walking. I know it can be painful if you are cramping, but I take something for the cramps then go out and walk. I notice the water seems to either sweat out or move around so I don't feel so bloated or cramped. I don't eat a lot of salt, Hardly any..so mine is not retention from too much salt.

I try not drinking any caffeine a week prior to my period and during my period. Niacin also seems to help me also.
