It's gotten so bad that I haven't left the house in weeks... I am just really depressed. I feel like I can't go outside or go out in public because my skin is just so hideous. Thank God my face isn't as bad as it could be though, I am very grateful for that. I currently have no current acne, but the red marks that are left behind, especially on my forehead, are probably worse than acne.
Description: It looks like somebody molded a face out of white Play-Dough and stuck random scabs & red, transluscent gel on it. I don't want this, obviously. You guys are geniuses, and I know you know your stuff..
So my question is, what is the best thing to use to get rid of these in a short period of time? I really want to go out and feel confident about myself, I can't take anymore seclusion.
I hope some people here can relate to my problem and will be supportive, it would mean so much. Thanks in advance! |

I hear your pain!! My skin is very, very fair, so acne scars are very noticeable and hard to cover up. Here are some things that have worked very well for me:
Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel (This is the absolute best thing I know for fading scars)
Juice Beauty Green Apple Cleanser (I massage this stuff in and let it soak in for a minute before I rinse--- works very well!)
Alba Hawaiian Pineapple Scrub (this scrub is very gentle so it won't damage your skin further, but it contains enzymes that encourage your skin to exfoliate)
Alba Botanic Clarifying Scrub (this scrub is a little stronger than the Pineapple one, but it's still very nice and it contains almond oil which is supposed to help fade scars.)
Hang in there! |

That's great!! The blemish serum is also very healing--- I often dab it on scabs, acne marks, etc. Please keep up updated! |

Hi Crystalline!
I am so sorry you're feeling that way. Sometimes, I think we are our own toughest critics. I have had days like that - when I didn't want to go in to work because of the way my skin looked.
I am no expert, but from personal experience, I found the Obagi system worked well for me. It took time and patience, but the hydroquinone (Obagi "Clear" and "Sunfader" both contain this) helped fade the redness over 4-6 weeks. I have continued using this line and my skin looks much clearer. If you're looking for a product containing just the hydroquinone (minus the Obagi price tag), try Neostrata HQ Plus. It contains 4% hydroquinone, 5% glycolic acid, 5% gluconolactone and it has an SPF of 15. (sunscreen is vital if you want to mantain the benefits).
As with everything else, I'm sure hydroquinone has its pros and cons, so I hope some of the other gals share their recommendations too. In the meantime, you could try something like Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage. It comes in two shades so you can blend to suit your skin tone. It also has yellow undertones, which I find great for covering up the redness. |

Hi Crystalline. I'm sorry you're going through this. I went through a few years like that & totally feel for you. Is there anyway to go to a dermatologist? I know I sometimes would put too much on my skin battling acne, ect, that I'd make it worse. No matter what, it's always worse to you. |

Crystalline,
I've been suffering from acne marks too.
The Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel works.
I've been using it along with Neutrognea Acne Fade Mask. Every third night I've been alternating product. Most of my newer red marks are gone, now I've focused my attention to older brown marks. I'm surrently using a 30% gylioc peel on them. It's too early to give a reivew, but it seems to be helping also. |

Thanks so much everyone! It seems that the most popular products for acne marks/hyperpigmentation are from Juice Beauty! I'm glad I ordered a few things from them.
I'll report how everything goes. Once again, thanks to you guys! *waves* |

I have the same problem too with red marks. Sometimes I even think they're acne under my skin. But with scars GAP is the best thing as everyone else have said already but I also find Microfoliant as a daily works well too. |

Hi Crystalline Green! Understand where you're coming from as I've suffered with bad skin all my life
Here are a couple of things I've learnt along the way regarding scarring and pigmentation:
1. ALWAYS wear a good sunscreen during the day. UV-rays will further pigment any fresh scars and leave you with permanent brown patches.
2. Microdermabrasion / thorough exfoliation can help with pigmentation, but again you must use a good sunscreen whilst your skin is thinner. My current favourite is Philsophy's Microdelivery Peel twice a week (not cheap but the best I've used) and an AHA or BHA cream every day - my fave is Philosophy's Hope in a Bottle (not Hope in a Jar, which is a competely different product).
3. There are no over-the-counter 'whitening' potions that I've found to work. Hydroquinone was banned in Europe some years ago so can't personally comment on it's effectiveness.
In my experience, good makeup is the best/only really effective solution. That and wearing a sunscreen to stop things getting worse.
Have you been to your doctor or a medical dermatologist to get their advice ? I believe they might be able to prescribe you products that are most effective. Being unable to leave the house is serious enough to get proper medical help IMO.
I hope you find something that works and do report back and share your experiences along the way - maybe you can help me and others ! |

Wow.. I don't know what helped so much since I've been using a few different things, but I really noticed a difference in my face when I started using N.V. Perricone's Vitamin C Serum followed by MSM Cream.. they work together to rebuild skin and heal it quickly.
My skin has never been so smooth and silky and textured correctly. It feels so amazing!! and compared to what it was 3 days ago, you can barely see any red marks/hyperpigmentation.. it has REALLY evened out. I can't even express how happy I am!! I can't believe it took this long.. like 2 days!! |

I am in a very similar situation that you were in a few days ago. So those two products completely made a drastic difference in just two days??? I HAVE to go check them out! |

I also heard MSM cream could fade hyperpig very well. Now I'm definitely gonna try it tomorrow.
So you the hyperpigmentation themselves faded a lot in only 2 days!!! That is truly incredible. |

Over the years I've had quite some experience with acne scarring. RIght now I like using Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair to tame my skin, to repair the damages done. It did help making the acne scars go away faster ... many fellow skincare-lovers experienced similar result.
In terms of hyperpigmentation, to get rid of it in a short period of time.. .. I had good luck with laser, first i started with the Dioxide laser which didn't work for me. Then the doctor switched to a YAG laser ... which worked for me, but it was also more abrasive, so right after the treatment my skin had red patches (right on my cheekbones as that's where most my hyperpigmentation are) and days later the hyperpigmentation turned dark. But I recovered from the redness ( 1 week after?!) and dark spots peeled off, I could see fresh, radiant skin free of hyperpigmentation! I was quite impressed with it, despite of the down time! |

Azelaic acid is very good for getting rid of Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH).www.inhousepharmacy.com sells a 20% cream that is non-RX needed. Not expensive either. This is the quickest solution so far that I have tried for fading away old acne marks.
Azelaic acid is:
Antibacterial: it reduces the growth of bacteria in the follicle (Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis);
Keratolytic & comedolytic: it returns to normal, the disordered growth of the skin cells, lining the follicle; and
Scavenger of free radicals: it reduces inflammation.
Reduces pigmentation: it is particularly useful for darker-skinned patients, who have melasma, or whose acne spots leave persistent brown marks; (Per the product insert: "There have been reports of hypopigmentation after use of azelaic acid. Since azelaic acid has not been well studied in patients with dark complexions, these patients should be monitored for early signs of hypopigmentation.") Non-toxic, and is well tolerated by most patients. |

Yesterday after placing almost $300 order with EDS I promised myself not to purchase anything else for a while...for a long while preferably... It has not been even 24 hours yet... I just ordered MSM cream (2 different brand: 25% MSM & 15%) and BENEV Azalex Gel (10% Azelaic acid). I still have some PIH (red acne marks) that are not fading away! It has been two weeks already & they are still there! That is very unusual for me: no new pimples (knocking on the wood), overall nice looking glowing skin and those damn red marks! Grrr... I also started adding Kojic & Wildberry Acid to my HA to see if it helps.. Please let me know if for some reasons its not a good idea to do so, cause I just come up with it myself... |

I believe Kojic & Wildberry should help, though I think it is supposed to be applied to clean skin. Also, for what it's worth, I also tried a prescription azelaic acid and found it to be irritating. My derm told me that glycolic acid products work best, so the Juice Beauty products should help. Good luck! |

I just got some samples of Finacea, which is a 15% Azelaic Acid gel, from my derm. Here's hoping it fades PIH marks FAST-- I have a wedding to go to in a month! I'll keep you guys updated! |

That's what I tried, the Finacea. Though I'd just switched to Retin A (from Differin) so I was especially sensitive. Good luck! |
