Cruising through these forums, I have found it mentioned frequently that its a good idea to keep certain skincare items refrigerated. I used to put lipstick and eye pencils in the 'fridge if they got too hot and slightly melty during the summer months, and I have friends who refrigerate other makeup items as well.
But, who wants to trudge all the way out to the kitchen morning and night for our skincare products, then trudge back to the refrigerator when done using them?
Then it dawned on me ... why not keep a mini fridge in the bath or bedroom? I mean a REALLY mini fridge! So, I went on eBay and Amazon and lo and behold ... I found a number of itty bitty 'fridges for sale! One of them even has Hello Kitty on it! If you look up "mini" or "compact" refrigerator on eBay or Amazon, you'll see what I mean ... these things are tiny. Some are only large enought to hold a 6-pack of soda, some hold 2&1/2 6-packs ... you get the idea. And besides Hello Kitty, they come in some really cute colors and range in price from about $45-$50 (though some are only for use in the car - they plug into the cigarette lighter socket).
Am I just strange or is having one of these a good idea? Would they cool products to a low enough temperature to be useful? Thought? Opinions?
Thanks! |

we talked about these once before here from memory. You would need to check the temp. range on the unit. we have those little six-pack ones there that range from hot (for warming canned coffee and chocolate in winter) to cold.
with skincare, it is not so much that you need to refrigerate your products (and too cold can cause changes in some things).. all you need is something to keep them at about 18-20 degrees C. So, cool rather than chilled.
If none of the little room fridges go that high, try a small wine cooler. |

No you are not strange - I have had the same thoughts! I want a mini fridge in my bedroom to store toners, serums and nail polishes, but the ones I've seen are too pricey so I've put off buying it for now. |

Sormuimui posted this one in the lounge a little while ago and we were all drooling over it. It's the absolute haute cuisine of cosmetic fridges with 4 micro-climates, but retails for just under 4,000 USD

I think it's brilliant, actually. Too bad there's not an affordable option...perhaps, a venture idea. Anyone an entrepreneur??? |

I found a little wine cooler w/4 temp variables for $150 on eBay but the shipping's $85 so it brings it to a whopping $235. Not ready to plop that down yet so I will live w/my little trips to the kitchen, damn. |

Walmart carries the little mini fridge for $38 on Walmart.com. I'm not sure how cold it gets, but it has a car adaptor plug so you can keep your products chilled on road trips. |

40 degrees below ambiant temp so it seems like a little too cold because Tiger_tim's rec was around 65-68 degrees farenheit, which could be achieved w/a wine cooler as they generally have adjustable thermostats.
There is one on the site for $88 w/free shipping to stores. The only downside I see is the size (rather it be like the one jlrobatzek found) and the shape of the shelves since they are for wine. I suppose you could take them out but then you'd lose the storage space.

Sure is but now has me wondering, if the one that was mentioned earlier also is adjustable...it would have to be, I think in order to provide heating/warming. The only downside to the Brylane one I think is the expense; it looks almost just like this one:

The Walmart one is cute and really tiny! But it doesn't appear to have a targeted adjustable temperature, just cool or warm. It looks like one of those types that cools to a certain degree below ambient temperature, which may be cooler than Tiger_tim's recommended degree range in the 60s F. But the size and price are really great!
You know, in looking again at the one from Brylane, I think it also lacks a targeted adjustable temperature - meaning you canNOT set it to cool to a specified temp - say 65 deg. F.
The ones I saw on eBay that had targeted adjustable temperature ran in the $80-$90 range, but shipping brought the cost to over $100 and up to $125-$135.
It appears the extra $$$ means the cost of an actual adjustable thermostat! |

Darn! Double dog darn! I was hoping it was variable. That's the missing link, it seems. I would like something I could keep right in the bathroom that is smaller than the average one available. Even the wine cooler one is too big for my taste. |

Agreed on the wine cooler one ... too bulky. It would not fit in my bathroom (though it would be nice to keep lots of bottled water in).
Yep, the adjustable thermostat/target temperture thingy appears to be clincher as far as price. Oh, poo! Well, I suppose if its going to run up to $125, in the long run its not such a bad price for an appliance, right? I'm getting ready to drop the $$$ for the JM eye serum, so I suppose I need to rethink the cost of the mini 'fridge (meaning, in the grand scheme, its not that much $$$)! Won't buy it now, but something to think about getting in the next few months. Maybe Santa Claus will bring it? |

I was just reading up on that Biszet one (I heard of it through the fact they are installed in the bathrooms of the ladies floor at a new hotel in Dubai).
Their shelves range from 5C (41F) to 12C (54F) depending on the contents (ie vitamins, collagen, natural ingredients etc). So it seems I was a bit high. I honestly would have thought 5C too cold, but I guess not. So I stand corrected. |

Oh! Well, thanks for that update, Tiger_tim! That means the little Walmart one would work. Cool and it's cheap, too. |

Whoo hoo! An update and guess what came in the mail today? My little, tiny Walmart fridge! I found a spot in my bathroom to accommodate it; had to rearrange a few things but it all worked out and now, I don't have to go to the kitchen anymore for my Vitamin C serum! It was cheap, too. Only around $40 delivered - can't beat that!
Yay!!! |

I'm really, really happy with it because what a pain it was to traipse back and forth to the kitchen! Now, I have my doll-sized fridge and it can stay plugged in no problem (I checked the manual). |
