Has anyone had break-outs from using a mineral powder? I have been using a new pressed mineral powder for two days and my skin looks angry and irritated and I noticed a couple of bumps on my cheeks. I seem to remember they should be bismuth free and this one does contain bismuth. I have stopped using it and today I only applied my hyaluronic acid serum. Hopefully my skin will calm down soon...
Update: I did a search on bismuth and found the post and it mentioned itching which is exactly how my skin feels, so I am sure this is the culprit, sorry for posting before searching properly. Any advice for a calming product I could apply? |

hi smoothskin!
I also believe that mica (especially as a first ingredient) can also irritate and clog pores too!
I used everday minerals (which was absolutely fantastic! and bismuth free) except that it also gave me "itchy" skin and clogged more pores on my forehead in a major way!
I e-mailed EDM about this and they were suprised to learn this because their product does not contain bismuth... perhaps you would have more success with their product though than I did! |

Smoothskin,
Please consider trying Alima MMU (alimacosmetics.com). They have cheap samples, fast shipping, do not contain Any bismuth and mica is not a primary ingredient. I have tried many mineral powders and this one is by far the best I have ever used. I found that I had reactions (itchy skin, clogged pores) from bismuth and also powders containing mica as a primary ingredient. |

I second that!! Thanks to Olyn's review of Alima in another thread, I've discovered my final HG (no need to look for other brands)!!! I am so utterly pleased with Alima ever since receiving their samples. I have tried JI, BE, Youngblood, EM, and Lauress and this is my fav, because like Olyn, i'm very prone to clogged pores (EM gave me the worst!!!), and this (after using for 3 days), doesn't clog my pores (I can usually tell when i take off my makeup at the end of the day). Even Lauress, which is bismuth free but mica as their first ingredient, gave me perpetual clogged pores. Thankfully i discovered Alima or else i would have sadly given up on MMU. You must order samples!! |

Dollbird, I am SO glad to hear that! I have been using the Alima long enough that my samples ran out, and I ordered the full-size and Definitely plan to reorder!
Smoothskin, in the meantime I would strongly suggest applying a SA gel(I use a 1%) in a thin layer over all the congested areas at night, then some type of Gentle yet effective manual exfoliation (scrub, enzyme, Clarisonic etc) in the AM. I also get good results from a yogurt/aspirin/honey mask. |

You may also want to try a loose powder over pressed as pressed use oils to hold them together. |

Wow, thanks everyone, that's really helpful. I am sure the powder irritated my skin and I have thrown it out. I am not too keen on trying another mineral powder for a while and just wish I could get hold of the brilliant Kanebo powder... I will do some light exfoliation and just leave my skin bare for the evening. Thanks again! |

I so wanted to love mineral makeup after all the great reviews here. I tried Lily lolo makeup and the powder and it made my skin look absolutely awful and it itched me. It settled into lines i did not even know i had (now i am obsessing about them). I did love the shade though. It was perfect. I ordered samples of Everyday minerals to give a different brand a try to be fair. (If it does not work maybe I will try Prescriptives custom blend as i think my skin just needs a liquid finish).
Its not mineral but someone here recommended T le clerc powder. I ordered some samples and I love it. It is very finely milled and no reactions. There are some lovely subtle colours to choose from. |

If you live in the US a good place to get T.LeClerc is: http://www.fourseasonsproducts.com/. They will ship 4 samples for $5. The cost is only to cover shipping. If you add the samples to an order you don't pay the $5 for the samples just the normal shipping charge. Shipping is free on purchases over $50 so it is not hard to get free shipping. They are an excellant merchant and I have bought from them on several occasions. I even got the LeClerc loose powder samples but did not like them. |

I had breakouts from some but the intensive coverage from Everyday Minerals has not been a problem. Now their matte and semimatte were horrible for me. Also Amazing MMU made me break out. True works good too w/o any breakouts. |

I had breakouts from Bare Escentuals, but Everyday Minerals has been wonderful. I know EM is without Bismuth O-somethingorother perhaps I had an irritation with that...
No complaints about EM. I love it!!! |

Try aloe vera gel! Works wonders for most kinds of skin irritation.
And I've had a bad reaction to a "mineral" makeup--Physicians Formula's pressed mineral powder made me break out (cysts, whiteheads, blackheads, you name) and have an allergic reaction (tiny, itchy red bumps) at the same time! |
