I give up on finding a moisturizer that doesn't break me out. When i thought LRP's Toleraine Fluid was light enough, the squalane broke me out. Other moisturizers with squalane has also broken me out. So now i'm resorting to good ol' aloe vera gel. I have combo skin and i want a moisturizer for the sole purpose of hydration. I was wondering if aloe vera gel would be a good option...since it is a gel, would it leave a film on my face that prevents my skin from breathing? Any input would be appreciated. |

Aloe vera is like using water as a moisturizer, except that it's 5x more hydrating than water. it won't leave a film on your face if you use the right kind (i highly recommend aubrey organics' organic pure aloe). it's not sticky at all when i use it. but for most, it probably wouldn't be moisturizing enough. |

Hi dollbird,
All the ice element line uses aloe vera as a base. You might want to check them out. I haven't actually used any of their products yet though I have 3 coming in the mail soon and I just received their eye cream.
My mom used to slather aloe vera gel from out house plant on her face and it smelled something terrible. |

Thanks dealated! You just about made my day!
I have heard about Aubrey Organics...that it is better than Fruit of the Earth and Lily of the Desert. I was just wondering if anyone else has used the other brands, how do they compare.
skincareaddicted, do let us know how your skin likes Ice Elements, especially if you are as breakout-prone as me. Also it would be great if you could post the moisturizer ingredients if they have it on the packaging, because I can't seem to find the full ingredient list on their website. Thanks!! |

Hi dollbird,
Sorry i didn't see the earlier post, but i totally agree with dealated--you're such a cute and beautiful girl!
the actual ingredient list isn't listed on ice elements, but i found that the ingredients are listed on the hsn site. just click on whatever product you're interested in and then right below the picture of the product there is an "ingredients" link.
the one for the moisturizer is here :
http://www.hsn.com/cnt/prod/default.aspx?webp_id=1719524&web_id=1719524&sf=bs&dept=bs0011&attr=1175&prev=hp!sf!dept!1175#
I glanced quickly and did not see squalene listed. I myself am not really breakout prone so I won't be able to tell you from personal experience how the products will react. I have however, been on the ice elements message board for a few days and it seems that there is a regime that has cleared many people's skin. I think I read on there that it was Bosoxy's son who uses the products and his skin has improved dramatically:

I will of course, be writing reviews in the next few weeks, so keep your pretty eyes peeled . HTH and let me know if you have any other questions. |

I think pure aloe vera gel is an excellent moisturizer. Unlike skin-compromising cosmetic moisturizers which wet the skin's outer protein layer and "force" water into the skin, pure aloe vera gel forms a barrier on the skin which prevents water loss. Aloe vera gel has also been reported to have anti-inflammatory effects. |

I use Aloe Vera from Aubrey Organics, but it's not moisturising enough for me by itself, especially now. So, I use it just as a serum under emu oil. |

I really like using aloe vera gel during the warmer months when I'm oilier--it sorta mattifies and it's good for soothing inflammation. I use Lily of the Desert and I like it just fine. |

I use food grade aloe vera gel, that has to be refridgerated. For my face, I pour a teeny bit out into my palm, and then with a dropper add about three drops of jojoba oil. I mix it and then put it on my face.
The combination is perfect... aloe vera gel is just drying by itself, and jojoba oil is too a little too oily by itself. The combination produces a result that's a lot more like a regular moisturizer, but is absorbed very fast! I also sometimes add essential oils for medicinal effect. |

If you are looking for something very simple and gentle, perhaps you could try Rosehip or Jojoba oil. |

Excuse me, I forgot to address your Aloe gel question first before I recommended the oils. In my opinion Aloe is really nice and I love to use it in my aspirin mask. I'm just not sure that it has the staying power to use it strictly as a moisturizer. |

I tried using aloe vera gel as a moisturizer once as I was in the same boat as you of wanting to find a moisturizer that wouldn't break me out (still sort of looking too). I used Aloe Life Skin Gel Ultimate Skin Treatment and it was just way too sticky and made my face feel strange. Maybe I applied too much but that was only because I never felt like I was getting enough hydration. So now I just use it in my aspirin mask and other concoctions.
You may want to look into Zenbiotic Phyto Moisturizer... I'm seriously considering it. It sounds like a great way to moisturize and totally NOT clog your pores. |

I tried to use the aloe vera gel from Jamieson as a moisturizer before and I didn't like it. It felt like a film on my face and really dried even I have oily skin.
I used to have the same problem, any moisturizers will cause breakout. Now I start to use the Clinique toner, and I find that I can use moisturizer of different kinds after applying the toner. I guess exfoliation is really important so that your pores are not clogged. |

I feel your pain, dollbird! I too experienced some pore clogging when I used LRPTF. It's so frustrating! I'd be very interested to hear your experiences with pure aloe. Recently the only moisturizer I've been using is Zenbiotic's Phyto Moisture, and while my skin isn't 100% clear (I'm STILL working on getting all of the pores that were clogged before unclogged) I've not gotten any new clogged pores, so I think it's a good sign. Also, you might want to check out Jason's Tea Tree Aloe Gel--- it's moisturizing like aloe gel, but the tea tree in it makes it good for fighting acne too. |

Thanks for the tip Liz! I will give Jason's a try...aloe + tea tree sounds like a great combo. Do report back when you've settled on a moisturizer as well! |

I use Jasons Aloe Vera gel in the summer as a moistuizer (when skin is oily). I love the way it makes my skin feel in the morning. |

I dont want to be the nay sayer on this thread but, from what I have read about aloe is that while it does have soothing effects on the skin(why its good for sunburns, etc.),it actually acts like a tightner on wounds and pulls the skin together(like a scab)to act as a "bandage". Thats why wounds heal faster when you apply aloe. For this reason I think it would be helpful to those who suffer from breakouts(by speeding healing)rather as a "treatment" and not a moisturizer.
I have been using Dremu oil for the past week and Im in complete shock that something could work so well. My face is soothed and hydrated and glowing. Honestly my skin has never looked do pretty! It hasnt clogged my pores or broken me out. I think it might be one of the best products ever discovered! BTW I have oily skin and use it AM and PM. HTH! |

ah, so that's why my face felt so uncomfortably tight... |

I agree with vonstella about aloe vera having a tightening effect. i applied it a few times when i was younger for fun (straight from the leaf) and it dries and pulls the skin. I haven't tried any of the aloe vera skin gels, but i imagine it would be similar.
dollbird--to update you on the ice elements moisturizer--it's awesome so far even though i am on day 2 only. i really like their anti-aging serum too. it's an aloe vera base but also tea tree oil in it and i noticed my chest getting some clogged pores from using my clarins sunscreen, and the AA serum seems to be clearing it up my sis comes home from college this week and her skin is a little congested so i am gonna have her try the IE products to see how they work for her, and i will update then. |
