hi, i've always wanted to try mineral powder foundation. went to sephora to look at bare minerals and fairly light seemed too light, while light was a bit too yellowy and dark... i tried some on the back on of my hand and it turned into a rash... so i guess bare minerals werent for me.

Question 1: which is the best mineral makeup?

i'm curious about Jane Iredale, but have problems choosing the color. i'm asian and have really light & pale skin. i tend to be reli sensitive and i need a color to cover redness and acne scars. Embarassed

Question 2: suggestions on color for light asian skin color?

thanks in advance!

Hi there,

I'm Asian - but have a darker complexion. I really like the colors from JLynne.com.

I'm not impressed with BE. I absolutely detested Rareminerals and BE is shiny.

MMU I've tried:
Youngblood. I tried them about 8 years ago. Excellent website and customer service. Shiny product though. I ended up mixing 2 products.

Jane Iredale. Again, 8 years ago, good product, shiny but limited color selection.

Aromaleigh has a wide color selection but it was difficult for me to figure out which color.

PureLuxe is okay but I really found more colors in my range with JLynne.

MMU = mineral makeup

for more acronyms: go to http://www.essentialdayspa.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=3228

I tried Jane Iredale, but found other better, cheaper brands out there. I'm asian and yellow-toned, and Alima makes beautiful colors that match perfectly.www.alimacosmetics.com

lmv, I use Alima and really love it (will post a full review eventually!).

I am Asian as well and considered pale. For reference, MAC SA used NC30 on me but it turned out too warm because I have some pink undertone as well. Warm cream or buff from Pure Luxe works for me. Warm cream is slightly too yellow and buff is neutral but slightly too pale for summer (should be fine for winter) so I end up mixing when I have the time.

I really love Alima and prefer it over Pure Luxe. You can order samples from Alima for quite a decent price because they give you enough to last for a week, but it actually lasted a month for me. I would suggest you try W-2 or W-3 from Alima. I can wear those interchangeably (W-2 is slightly lighter). W-3 looks the same in the jar as Warm Cream from Pure Luxe. I do not find the W range to be too yellow. However, on my pinker days, I use N3 or N2. It is neutral, so less yellow and more pink and it's pretty great too.

I think if you find your undertone (pink, yellow, or neutral) and try the 2 or 3's, you should find a great match from Alima. Good luck!

lmv, yes they ship to Canada. The goldens are like the warms except more yellow and darker. There is no orange in them. If you try several samples, i'm sure you'll find the perfect match. Good luck!

Wow ... the color range from Alima is extraordinary.

Okay - maybe I will try this. I think I'm gonna have to call though. I can't tell if I'm golden, warm or olive.

lmv, I think you would be safe with N-2 or W-2 then. If you find it looking chalky at all, then try the 3's. I recently started using alima because I find that pure luxe is good, but I can't quite say it's the HG. Alima has less minerals in it, and I prefer less. It does not have any irritating ingredients so you shouldn't worry about that. Thanks for the congrats, now I have to figure out how to spend it Very Happy

I'll do a review of alima after a few weeks just to be sure.

I agree with poofybabypenguin's Alima color recs--those worked for me too. The formulation didn't agree with my combination skin. I'm using Everyday Minerals now and I really like it. I'm using Light Warm and Light Neutral (they both work okay for me since the former is a light yellow color and the latter is more beige).

lmv, I think you misunderstood me Smile All mineral makeup use inert minerals so they're great for skin, won't clog your pores, look natural, offer sun protection, etc. I meant that Pure Luxe's ingredient list is longer than that of Alima. I believe Alima only uses four ingredients while Pure Luxe uses more. Since I like Alima better anyway, I just think it's a bonus that it has less ingredients, which will reduce the chance of any reaction with skin and who wants to have extra gunk on their skin anyway? Very Happy
I hope that helps! Can't wait until you fall in love with Alima like I did

* is it necessary to use a setting powder ?

Yeh the order looks great. However, maybe you should try putting the primer before sunscreen if possible because it is best to make sunscreen one of the last applications. With Pure Luxe, they have this AMAZING setting powder called April's Mix (the reason why I used Pure Luxe for so long) which gives amazing glow. but I find that Alima's satin matte finish has a pretty good glow already so I don't put anything on top. This does not seem to result in less staying power. At the end of a looooong day, my makeup is still quite perfect without a setting powder. If you want a matte finish because you have oily skin, you can try Jurlique's rose/lavender dust powder, ppl here on EDS swear by that in controling oils. I think there is also a DIY version in the DIY thread but I am not sure. If you want to add more glow, I'd recommend April's Mix. It has radiance (this glow formula) as well as correctors in it. If you want even MORE glow:lol: , try "you glow girl" from pure luxe.

I've tried their erasers. It has almost a gel-like quality. I have the peach and the no-color. You do have to be careful to let it dry/set for a minute or so before applying powder.

The line eraser is great. I have in original and the banana split. They are high silicone products, so I was worried they would clog my pores because I was addicted to using them everyday.. But never had issues with pimples, but instead it has great oil control and the banana split neutralises redness really well. I don't think I like the clear version, I don'thave wrinkles or pores that need such heavy coverage, so it does nothing but sit on top of my face.

One problem with PL is that if you layer too many powders, like a colour neutraliser, foundation, setting powder, your face is guaranteed to be flaking by the end of it. There is some kaolin in her powders, so I can only use one at a time.

Rjez- how do you like the cream eraser? Is there an obvious difference?

lmv- I've only tried the powder eraser and as I am only in my early 20's, I don't really need it to fill in any lines or minimize pores so I didn't notice any difference and just stopped using it. Got the cream version but have been lazy in trying it out Confused

I don't have any lines so I use it as a primer - for large pores. It doesn't work great but nothing really hide my pores anyway.

Now that I've been using Avene Ystheal and Skinceuticals C&E - my skin texture is much better so I don't really need the eraser.

I also never noticed a difference between the apricot color corrector and the no color.

Mostly now I use the JLynne finishing powder. They're really sheer so I use under MMU or alone. They've got a med/tan color that is so sheer but adds just a hint of color (warms up my face) and absorbs oil.

I'm dying to try Alima!
