I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this, but was just wondering if anyone used pure Jojoba oil for their hair, like for example as a substitute for hair gel/cream? I ran out of my frizz-control cream and was wondering if this might do the job. I'm afraid it will make my hair greasy though - I have fine frizzy wavy hair. But it says on the label that it's for "hair, skin & scalp". I'm wondering if it's better to use as a treatment that you wash off in the shower? Suggestions? |

Hi Kiddo,
I've used it to tame my hair during the summer. A little goes a long way and you'll have to experiment in order to find the right amount that works for you. I work it more towards the end and try and keep away from the scalp. HTH. |

Great, thanks for the response! About how many drops do you put in your hair? And what's your texture like (thick, fine, frizzy, etc.)? just trying to figure out how much I should try....I will definitely stay clear of the scalp though, I hate those bad grease-ball hair days! |

I use it as both a treatment in the shower (leave on for as long as possible under a shower cap) and I smooth a tiny amount over wet hair (i don't do both of these, one or the other depending on my mood) |

I have shoulder length hair, fine and prone to being curly at the ends when humidity is high. I think I titrated it to 3-7 drops. Start with 3 drops in the plam of your hand, rubs your hands together. If your hands are dry and absorb everything, then add a couple more drops, rub them together again and grab handfuls of the ends of dry hair (gently) and sort of smush the hair, then run your fingers from the base of your scalp to the end and along the sides. That's what worked for me. Aveda also has a hair and body oil that's jojoba based with essential oils and it smells divine. I can't remember what it's called but it's a small colorless glass bottle with the yellow oil in it. HTH. |

I don't really substitute it for anything but I have naturally curly/wavy hair so when I straighten it I do use it as a finisher to give me some sheen and adds softness to the hair. Also helps with flyaways. Like they said, a little goes a long way. I have thick, long hair so I take the bottle put it against my palm flip the bottle over and use what's on my palms from the bottle flip. For me that's probably about 7-8 drops or so. That amount seems to work. I only apply it to hair that's below my ears though, not to the root since it may get it greasy.
Also when I come out from the shower I take a little bit of coconut oil and apply it to soaking wet hair. |
