Short review: I hated it!!!

I never thought I would hate a Lancome mascara. It was time to renew my trusted Definicils and, lured by the ads (Amazing 3-D volume), I got Fatale instead. It has a unique brush with 3 layers of spikes (I guess 3-D effect). I found it a nightmare to apply. The brush picks up a lot of the mascara, it's impossible to wipe the excess off before applying and my lashes end up spiky and clumped. Bleah! Sure you can comb the lahes and clean them up etc but who has time for this??! For volume, I'm back to YSL false lash and for daytime Definicils. I didn't even keep the receipt for the Fatale as I hadn't expected hating it, so I can't even return it. Snif.

Actually, I've come to like this stuff. The first time I used it was an out and out nightmare--- it gave me a solid sheet of over-the-top lashes. "Are you wearing false eyelashes today?" my husband asked. The next time was slightly better--- I used a paper towel to wipe wand first and it worked better. Since then, though, using it has been a breeze, I just make sure to wipe the wand and voila--- mile-long lashes. I would go so far as to say that this is the best lengthening mascara I have ever used. That being said, Definicils still gives me the best definition, and Diorshow still gives me the most volume, so it really depends on what you're looking it, but I def. plan to keep this one in my rotation.

Hi manslayerliz, do you use a kleenex to wipe the wand off? I find that it tears the paper and really I can't get much off. I've even tried a wet paper towel... Give me Definicils anyday. I'm glad it's working out for you though.

I'm actually planning to buy this as the SA used it on me and it curled my lashes Shock
I don't think I've had any mascara do that on its own to the extent of fatale. I think how it comes out very much depends on how you apply it due to the brush. The SA told me you're supposed to use it swipping the top of your lashes instead of swipping the bottom-up like conventional mascaras and that's how she used it on me. I don't think I can swipe the top on my own just because it'll probably end up getting messy but I think it's worth a try. It also didn't weigh my lashes down like hypnose did, but I do love hypnose for the volume. Flextencils on the other hand didn't do much for me and I now much prefer my Shiseido Lasting Lift to it as it holds a curl much better. Basically a lot of curling mascaras don't actually curl my lashes, nor do they hold them well. But fatale did.

An SA tried this on me and I was not that impressed either. Although it lengthend and voluminzed well, it looked way too clumpy for my liking. However, I hear that there is a specific way you have to put it on. Because of the 3D brush, I think the SA said to roll your brush while going up your eyelashes inside of the straight or zizap swiping motion usually used. I am not sure if that works, but maybe you can try that!

Could you apply the mascara with an old Definicils brush? Or did you check to see if they needed the receipt to exchange for the other mascara? If you are a regular they might let you do that.

Thanks for the review. I usually like Lancome mascara but this is one that I will pass up trying.

Agent-- I use a paper napkin, coffee filter, or stiff paper towel. Kleenex rips too easily, and you shouldn't use anything wet because water introduces bacteria. HTH!

I was attracted by the new brush head and thought it was very interesting. I almost bought it, and then mentally pulled myself aside to remind me that I still have about 10 mascaras waiting at home.

am I glad that I did't buy it then, maybe I will ask for a sample at the counter someday Wink .

I forgot to say that I had tried it before - A SA had put it on. It was a lengthy process, she swiped it both on top and underneath and painstakingly separated the lashes. It looked great but it's just a huge faff when I try using it. I don't have an hour to make it work. Fatale doesn't hold a candle to my YSL, IMO! Wink Sephora has disposable brushes next to the mascara so you can try it, if you wish.

You guys made me so interested in this mascara so i went out and bought it yesterday!! The girls working at the counter didn't put it on me but I read about how you have to twirl the wand.. i thought i was capable of doing it so I didn't ask them! [plus half the time i don't like how most of the counter girls do make up anyways!] When i got home I tried it and the application wasn't too bad... the mascara effect is a lot like hypnose for me. It was a little bit clumpy but it did give nice volume and length!

I bought this mascara - FINALLY. I used it today and I liked it as much as I did when the SA put it on me. I put it on like regular mascara, no twirling nothing. And my lashes curled better than any other mascara I've ever used including all other Lancome mascaras (and I've used them all). I didn't use a base or a curler either to see the natural effects and I LOVE it! I did accidentally poke my eye so I got a big GLOB of it all over my lashes which I had to comb out but I didn't have a problem with clumping on the other eye (the eye I didn't poke). I think this will be my everyday mascara (saves a lot of time w/o the curling + base + mascara routine). Although I don't use mascara everyday (because I'm lazy) this is a great mascara to have in my purse for those "last-minute" night outs!
