In 3 weeks time I'll be spoending 3 months travelling around Australia. I was wondering if anyone who lives or has been to Oz can suggest anything in particular (besides all the usual touristy things) that I should see/do during my time there. Also, any shopping that you would recommend (skincare, clothes etc - I'm particularly fond of bags and would like a nice new leather one). I'm stopping at Hong Kong on the way out and South Africa on the way home, so suggestions for these places are also welcome! Thank you... |

Not knowing what your interests are, I can only suggest that you make a point of visiting the Information Centres in towns that you go to. Australia has such contrasts from miles of beautiful white sandy beaches to rainforest to inland desert. |

Not sure where you are going. Can give some recs for Sydney.
I say save for Bloom and Jurlique as it is a bit cheaper in Australia than overseas. Otherwise...makeup is expensive here! For bags, there is Mimco brand, the button bag is meant to be very well loved. But at over $200 AUD, I don't know if it is worth it.
Spend most of your money on Hong Kong shopping. Most major brands are available there and ever cheaper when you buy duty free. |

I agree, clothes and make up are quite expensive in Australia.
I usually get most of my clothes and make up when I am in Hong Kong. The clothes size in Hong Kong on the small side though. |

Yes, but only if you like going girly-girl
I think Sass & Bide, Willow etc might be interesting? Since it could be cheaper here than overseas as they are Australian brands.
I love looking at her display windows but can never figure out how to wear her clothes.
Also I am getting mum to use the Ystheal eyecream, so far no bad reactions! yay ^__^. Hope it can help with millieus as well. |

Thanks for all your suggestions. I might look into Sass & Bide, have read about them but no-where near me sells them. Jurlique is a brand I've looked at before, some good products for acne-prone skin I think? Hong Kong may be the way to go for a good leather bag. I actually saw a fab one last year whilst in Bangkok and didn't get it and I STILL think about it now! It was a lovely mustard yellow, really soft leather etc etc...Can't wait to go, 3 weeks today exactly! |

you will love it. My daughter & her bf are in Aus at moment. They brought a car so they are kind of luxury backpacking. They have been out there about 6 weeks now & plan on staying for a year. They having an absolute ball & at the moment they are staying in a hostel & picking lettuces to earn some extra money.
They did the sydney harbour bridge climb at night & said it was brill, even though her bf is scared of heights.LOL. |

I suggest the dawn walk, it is so pretty in the morning, better than the evening one I think. You will love it, people I know who did it really enjoyed it. |

I know what you mean about AH.
I never buy designer clothes as I prefer to spend my money on beauty stuff.
I had a thought - there are good high street stores in Australia that I really like - Witchery, Esprit and Portmans.
The beauty floors in David Jones on Elizabeth Street is a beautiful place to browse or to buy from.
The QVB is also great shopping.
I'm glad your Mum likes the gel Cuppre.
I'm going to be selling the other tube I have (plus, a half used tube) as my sister is getting me another Avene retinol product. If you're interested PM me - I'll be listing them on ebay during the week or I'll sell to you before then.
I am very fickle when it comes to beauty - the gel is working well for me but I wlways think there is some miracle cure.

Thanks Emma for the offer! I will have to say no because I have to remind mum to use it every night. *sighs* the chore of being more concerned about mum's beauty than mum is.
That said, please let me know what your ebay id is. I would love to see what other items you have for sale. For myself at least. |

The Queen Victoria Building - it's an historic building that happens to have shops on it.

The QVB also has a clock that every one hour (?) runs a mechanical show (I think it is something about the Magna Carta - can't remember now since I last saw it 16 years ago - kids have grown up!).
PS QVB is in Sydney. |

Sorry Ninetynine - I was being a typical Sydneysider then.

The QVB is also near Darling Habour and my favourite bookshop in Sydney - Kinokuniya. This is a Japanese chain of bookstores and has the coolest stuff. Great for browsing and the cafe in there is pretty nice for a break.
Otherwise, if you like art museums, the NSW Art Gallery and Contemporary Arts Museum are within walking distance from the QVB. The Contemporary Arts Museum is also right in the middle of Circular Quay, i.e. where the Opera House and Habour Bridge are. |
