i was talking to an estitician (sorry for the bad spelling) today, she took a quick glance at my problemd skin and i asked her whats the best/safest way to remove makeup and she said with only a wash cloth! i was like omg are you sure you dont need soap or anything?? and she said yes water and a washcloth is enough to remove (mineral powdered) makeup alone. so how do you do this?? i tried earlier and i scraped off a whitehead! LOL |

I would probably use a cleanser too, I love using face cloths for removing my make-up but have to admit I have always used a cleanser with them. I supose the exfoiating effect of the cloth would be enough to remove any make-up, it is just whatever works for you. |

The wash cloth thing is ok, but I use cold cream first, tissue off and than wash with my favorite cleanser. |

If it is just mineral powder, I guess you can get away with rinsing with warm to hot water first to dissolve any oils and dirt buildup. Then again you have to use a warm or hot cloth to gently wipe or soak the makeup off. I find it time consuming and for those with easily irritated skins, hot water may not be an option for them.
Again, after a while I would just deep clean with normal cleanser and exfoliate too.
If I didn't use makeup at all this would probably be an option for me. |

ACK! don't use a normal toweling washcloth as they are way too harsh on facial skin. Invest in some soft, velvety washcloths or else find a shaggy microfiber one. I use special washcloths for my face that have a soft, shaggy surface on one side and muslin on the other. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING cleans the face better and more gently. I use it for removing masks, cleansers, everything. I am not sure if I would want to use it alone and without any kind of cleanser though... |

Tiger Tim,
The washcloths you're talking about sound wonderful! Do you use a Japanese brand, or is it something that could possibly be found in the States? They sound divine! |

Marmur1, I was going to ask Tiger that EXACT same question, but you've done it already! Looking forward to Tiger's response as the way she describes the cloths make them sound like a must-have! |

an estitician says the safest way is with a washcloth?! Blah, I don't quite exactly understand how rough textured cloth rubbing back and forth on the skin is actually safe...I tried that method in my preteen years and got lots of unnecessary broken capillaries and irritation up the wazhoo. A year or so ago on the news they also did a special on skincare and said the WORST thing to do is use a washcloth on the skin. Not that I always pay attention or believe what is on the news, but that's something I definitely would agree with. Now days I am almost too gentle on my skin and use cotton balls to gently remove my cleanser every night, rinse off, and use a gentle exfoliator after if needed. a washcloth and water seems like it would be extremely drying to the skin. |

OK, my little washcloths are the love of my life.. truly... I have only found ONE store that sells them (they are about $4 each) and they only ever have 4 or 5 on the shelf. Consequently every time I go in I buy their entire stock. I have given them to my mum, and forum members "lavieenrose" and "Poppy" and (I think) Mabsy have also received them in boxes of goodies I have purchased for them. My personal "collection" now has 8 in use and another 4 stashed away just in case the company stops making them. About the only information I could find about them is that the manufacturer is famous for making table linens and handkerchiefs. They are called "Angel's Cheek" (translated)... oh, I think that I might have to add these to the Orbis shopping order. I love introducing unique stuff from Japan, but feel so bad when I rave on about something and then no-one can get it.. oh, dont get me started on my favorite Japanese toothpaste (which I always have to lug to Oz for my cousin who is addicted to it.) I will try and take a photo of one and upload it over the weekend. |

i actually didn't want to mention anything because i absolutely adore it and want them *all* for myself! (well, at least six more so i can have a clean one for each day of the week ) these are seriously the best!!! the muslin side is great for those stubborn areas, but i have seen other clothes that do the same. what makes this washcloth so unique is the soft shaggy side. it feels like you're caressing your cheeks -- it's that gentle. and yet, miraculously, it cleans every bit of make-up and SS without seemingly harming or roughing up the facial skin. you also need a lot less cleanser when using this. i love using flannels, but they've always been too harsh for my skin. with this one, i can use it twice daily and my skin is happy as can be. madly in love with this so there's all the reason to be excited but like i said, i was too greedy to share.... luckily, there's generous tiger_tim, always sharing! |

tiger_tim, please post photos (or website) of both the washcloth and toothpaste. I remember you mentioning this washcloth in the discussion of Jane Iredale's Magic Mitt. So I went to a store that sells Japanese goodies and bought one that I thought might be similar to the one you talked about. It's around US$7 for a tiny (about 15x15cm) washcloth. |

Ok...I want one! I'm using muslin cloths to remove my cleanser. However, I bought it as one big piece of muslin and cut it into pieces so it's all a bit of a mess! |
