Not sure how to ask this question, but I know you ladies will be able to answer it! Does emu oil push other skincare product into skin or does it pull product into skin? I guess another way of saying it would be does emu go on first, next to your skin, thereby pulling other products in; or last, over other products, thereby pushing products into your skin? Or maybe it goes on somewhere in between?
I'm confused because I think I've read somewhere on this forum that it "sucks" products in which sounds to me like it would go on first. But I know there are actives that should go first, directly on clean skin. I've also read that emu oil is transdermal, and can go 7 layers into the skin (whatever that means). To further confuse things, I think I read that emu oil can act as somewhat of a neutralizer, inhibiting the action of some products AND it can promote the penetration of other products.
HELP! |

I think that emu is a pusher.
I always apply it last as it forces actives deeper.
I know that if people start out with CP's they warn against using emu straight away as it makes the effect stronger. |

Emu can "push" other products, especially if the emu is mixed with HA first (an EXCELLENT way to use emu if your oily skinned like me).
I wouldn't use any actives over emu...I don't think any of them would be able to absorb through the emu.

I add my emu oil last, so I guess it is a pusher. |

All I could think of when I first read this post was "The pusher" by Steppenwolf! More to the point, I agree with everyone Emu is a pusher, I use it last. |

Yep, emu's a pusher but can also be a buffer, if applied before something else. As an example, if you put emu on before CPs, it will buffer the strength and is good for becoming accustomed to using them (diluting, as well, but another way to do this). |

I never knew of the whole pusher/puller theory. I just use it as a last step before the ss because I use it as a moisturizer, which I apply last. |

So, if I am using both emu and HA, I should apply HA first and then emu oil? |

Different people do it differently; some do it that way. Some mix them together into an emulsion (I do this). Some people--like DianaYvonne herself, applies HA on top of emu. You could try it the different ways and see what you like best. They all work fine. |

Whatever method you choose, don't forget to apply emu on a damp skin, it makes the absorbtion much better. |

Something ELSE I didn't know! Is skin damp from toner OK? |

Yes, as jumpingball said remmeber to put emu oil on damp skin. I learnt the trick from her when I found the oil sitting on top of my skin instead of being absorbed. |

Thanks Molly! I knew something was a "sucker" and thought it was emu! So, if I put HA on first and then emu over that, its the perfect combination. And to think I've been doing that all along (so I guess the bleach did NOT go all the way through)! |

it's best if you a do a quick spritz of thermal water, like Avene or Evian or even just plain water in a bottle.... |

Water, toner or hydrosol should be fine. |

Depends - that's my perfect combo now, but in hotter more humid places the other way round works better for me. Experiment! |

I've been doing it the other way around. I kept forgetting. I put emu oil on, then ha. Now I'm all exited I have something new to try tonight. |

I tried various ways, emu then HA, HA mixed with emu and HA then emu.
I find in most cases the emu oil is still not fully absorbed after half an hour. If I touch my face, my fingers are shiny with the oil. Is this normal?
Is it OK to apply the emu oil straight after I apply HA or do I still need to spritz my face with water first?
Can you just use HA alone without emu oil? I think I read somewhere that you should always use a cream or moisturiser after applying HA. Is this correct? I am asking because after applying HA alone, my face feels really tight and I feel that I should add moisturiser on top. |

Yes, you have to spritz your face first, it really makes the difference in emu oil absorbtion. I apply emu on a damp face and in 5-10 minutes don't have any residue on my skin.
You can use HA w/o emu, but it's better to apply moisturiser on top because if the air is dry, HA will pull out water from your skin, so, instead of benefits, it'll dehydrate your skin.

but if it's really humid surprisingly using HA alone is just fine even for my older/dryer skin - seriously depends on the weather. Now it would just dry me out entirely. |
