Hi , I am finally considering changing my skincare routine to Dr Hauschka but i noticed in some of there products they include the ingredient St Johns Wort. The oral contraceptive i am currently taking states that the herbal remedy st johns wort should not be taken at the same time, i no this is refering to ingestion but am concerned that by using these products on a daily basis the ingredient may be absorbed into the blood and affect my pill
Does any one know if this is likely or am i just being paranoid? lol
thanx |

Ok, I did laugh at katee's response (this board would be no fun without you, katee!) but I can understand your hesitation. I personally would LOVE to use the aspirin mask (I even tracked down the aspirin for it) but I've decided it's a bad idea because I'm nursing right now. It can still get into my body through absorption into my skin so I decided I'd better wait. Ultimately, it's your call but I can see why you'd be concerned. Maybe it's better to just look for something different if you're at all concerned. We certainly don't suffer from a dirth of skincare items available on the market! |

Hi Natz87, I don't think that the amounts in Dr. H's products would be sufficient to interfere with your contraceptive. The reason why the contraceptive has this warning is that the liver pathway that's involved in the processing of St John's Wort blocks the contraceptive's processing from working. Same as with antibiotics. But really, major amounts of St. John's wort would need to build up in your blood. The amounts you'd be using on a daily basis in a face wash or cream aren't enough to do so. On a personal note, I use both and haven't had any unwanted side-effects! I really recommend Dr. H's products. |
