Yes, everyone, we're getting SNOW in Hongcouver! Check it out! These photos are from tower cams around the city, taken at about 3:00 this afternoon. Having grown-up in northern B.C., I always laugh at the chaos which ensues when we receive snow in Vancouver; snow is very rare here. People CANNOT drive in it, and it blows my mind how this city literally shuts-down.
Drivers: those whom have 4WD think they're invincible. Meanwhile, they're driving around with SUMMER tires, sliding all over the freakin' place. Like, "Yeah, buddy, keep spinnin' your wheels there. You'll likely make progress. Not." (I don't own/need a vehicle here, btw.)
If I gained anything from growing-up in Smithers, BC, I learned to drive WELL, and how to drive a 4WD properly! LOL!
1. Downtown, across False Creek, Burrard Bridge, to Kitsilano (my `hood).

2. Jericho Beach/English Bay.
3. Westin Bayshore Hotel, Coal Harbour, to Stanley Park.

Wow, so much snow in Vancouver already. We had a light coat of snow on our rooftops a couple of days ago but it's been warmer since then (plus 10 degrees the last couple of days). |

Yes, the city was given this nickname during the HUGE wave of immigration from Hong Kong which happened after Expo 86.
Just as Chicago is "Little Poland" or "Little Warsaw". |

I kept laughing when I read Hongcouver, boy I haven't heard that phrase since high school! But I guess I'm one of the "hongers" who live in the REAL Chinatown (aka Richmond). But seriously, we haven't gotten this much snow in years, usually it's just a day of snowing and that's it for the whole season - not to mention how EARLY it's snowing this year! |

Ever since Caspers Mum introduced us to the katkam a couple of years ago, my husband and I have enjoyed it and have used various images from it as our screensaver (we love Vancouver!!!)
So now, we have a lovely snow scene -- and can only hope that all of you up there are getting along okay during this apparently novel weather! |

I did not drive these days as the conditions were too bad. I waited for 30 minutes to get on a bus on Wednesday morning. I was told some trees at UBC have fallen on the ground. |
