Sorry if this is a TMI topic, but I need a reality check. I'm talking about the shirt/top that is the layer closest to your skin. So if you wear a sweater and a shirt of some sort underneath, it's the shirt underneath that I'm asking about. If you wear one layer only...that layer.
Since experimenting with deodorants (I mean deodorant only products, not also anti-perspirants), I'm noticing that my shirts have stinky 'pit areas after one wearing. (yes I actually sniff them when I'm not sure ) So I wash them. So I run out of my favorite shirts a lot. And I have a ton of extra laundry, which I hate. If I wore the shirts twice, I might be able get away with no obvious 'pit odor, but I'm afraid to take that chance. I used to be able to get 2 wears out of a shirt when I wore anti-perspirant/deodorant products. |

Um. I usually only wear a shirt once then wash it, unless I only wear it for a couple hours then change into something else. I like clean clothes; I hate to think of all the possible skin flakes and whatever else you pick up through the day sticking on me. Though I will admit to, out of desperation, wearing a shirt twice after I've fluffed it up in the dryer with a dryer sheet.
Maybe you could buy more shirts so you don't run out? |

it's funny but i once heard we wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time. i need to give the rest of my clothes a fair chance. |

Sad but true: I'm prone to terribly sweaty armpits. I wash my shirts EVERYTIME I wear them, and sometimes I even have to change shirts before going out again in the evening! (Life's rough ) |

I'm weird. Most of the time I don't perspire so I don't wear anti-perspirant.
For me it really depends on whether it's getting dirty. Most of the time, yes, I've got dried dog gobbers or doggy smell so it's worn once.
I do, however, sweat like a raving pig when I exercise ... so that's the only time I absolutely change often and wear antiperspirant. |

lol...
i wash my shirts after each wear. I don't sweat but I like to be as clean as possible. Gross but when I was in medical school i went through this period wear I would rarely bathe (2x per week, sometimes 3) but I never smelled or anything (i would ask friends, lol) I was so consumed with studying that I felt like I was waisting my time eating/bathing/sleeping...
Spinoff question- Calling Asians and Middle Easterners... Do you not need deoderant? None of my asian friends wear deoderant (they don't need it) they say that it is very common for Asians to not wear/need it, also my family members and I (middle eastern) never wear deoderant, I didn't even realize it was a very common thing until college. Wondering if it's something about eastern diets that prevent odor? |

Dealated - I'm Asian and yeah, I don't need antiperspirant most of the time. But when I exercise, man I out-sweat everyone, including men. |

If it is the layer next to my skin definately one time for me. If it is an overshirt and worn just a few hours (and the weather has been cool and it is not too crushed) then I might give it a second wearing. |

Definitely just the once for anything right next to my skin, I'd feel gross otherwise. |

Dealated, my DH is Chinese America, and though he always wears deodorant he doesn't need it because he never smells bad. However, I'm inclined to believe that it has to do more with genetics or body chemistry than diet, because since we've been married he eats whatever I cook! |

May sound kinda of weird or country, but I love sleeping in a form fitting t-shirt or tank top. I love wearing white socks around the house, but can't stand to sleep with them on. |

oooooooh kaaaaaay. Let me put rest to rumors that Asians can't "stink". Well, at least it aint true for Japanese!! I think it is true that they do not perspire as much as westerners, but trust me they can and do stink just as much as any gaijin I have met when the conditions are right.
My DH can get a bit pongy in summer without deodorant (or on occassion with, if it is not antipersperant) - though he has never reeked - but I have a coworker who I swear makes us gag. It got so bad that both the girl who sits across from me (and beside him) and I used to put perfume under our nostrils when he returned from sales calls (what must our customers have thought?! ).
Hubby also has a super pongy bloke in his office who, rather than buying deodorant, bathes himself in his Hermes fragrance to the point where his coworkers need gas masks (and get headaches).
And we wont even mention the gas chamber that the train can turn into in summer. Ewwww, ewwww, ewwww. |

If a garment is worn as the first layer, I wash it every single time - I thought everyone did that!
Needless to say, I always have a ton of laundry to do and the dry clean only clothes hanging in my closet are very few. |

OMG, tiger_tim, I couldn't agree more! When I was living in Japan I blogged constantly about how offended I was over constantly getting assaulted with BO!!! Man, there was this one guy at work.... let's just say you had better give him 12 feet if you want to keep your sense of smell intact! And the trains... goodness, in the summer you might as well just wear a gas mask! I don't think that Japanese people are particularly stinky, per se, but I will say that I think some of the more pungent ones could pay closer attention to their hygiene! I mean, it was definitely harder for me to keep smelling like a rose in all the heat and humidity, riding a bike and not having air-conditioning, but I wiped out my armpits and dusted my whole body with baby powder 10 or 15 times a day and managed to get by. |

I am so with you on this one. My mom never has used deodorant and still doesn't. I sweat like a disgusting pig when I workout I feel bad for those that use the machines after my sweaty a$$ touches those seats ..and yes I do wipe them off. I wear deodorant occassionally, okay I lie, wear it when I remember to, which is like once a week (takes a sniff... ) |

Kudos to you for wiping down the machines aries, lol. I want to vomit when I see the sweatiest people just jump off a dripping wet machine and move to the next, leaving their "snail trails" so to speak, accross the gym I saw a soaking wet man wipe down every weight machine BEFORE he used it, but AFTER, he would just leave a moist body print and walk away. A few weeks later the same *sshole asked me after I stood up from a bench I had sat down on to put my gym shoes on (this was before I even started to do anything, I wasn't sweating at all) if I was going to wipe it down . I nearly laughed in his face... I like to take a towel dipped in part ACV, part water with a few drops of lavender and tea tree EO and to wipe down everything I touch BEFORE and AFTER I use it The week I started going to a public gym I got some mysterious eye infection... I'm guessing it was related. Not taking chances anymore! |

That's very interesting, thanks for your feedback. I wish I could find me a non-stinking asian hottie who loves bunnies to marry Mine basically needs Rx deoderant
Oh, and when I was in highscool I had sweating problems (underarm) like you described, I tried something called "certain dry" (night time treatment that "closed the underarm pores" ) which really worked amazingly, but what solved my problems was when i switched to a deoderant crystal, after about 2 months i no longer had those dreaded pit stains. Liz, It's a good thing your gorgeous, I hear that when gorgeous people sweat it's sexy |
