My family has always been into Nissans. Our second car was a 200sx. The first was a Honda btw. Currently we have 3. A 1998 Altima, 02/04 Altima (not sure what year), and a 2001 Maxima.

I currently drive a 1998 Altima Nissan. We got if new off the lot in 1997. No problems what so ever with it, with the 110,000 plus miles it has on it **knocks on wood** and its actually pretty good in the snow in regards to traction and all, although i doesn't have ABS or anything. Its a good Japanese car =). Last year, my mom and dad bought a 2002 or 2004 Altima (I'm not too sure of the year Embarassed ). It has been great and is like a tank in the snow. We bought it used with 40,000 some thousand miles. Both have been reliable and durable.

However, I don't like the 2002/2004 Altima too much because when I'm in a car, I like to feel surrounded by it, with the dash and all (I'm just weird like that Wink ). That's the only thing I dislike. I hear that the 2006/2007 Altima's have a push start button. Interesting huh. If you have any more in depth questions, feel free to ask.

Thanks salli and girdlevov!

My Honda has over 220,000 miles on and I love it! I can't say I've been taking care of it as I should, but it has been good to me. I had one major repair 2 yrs ago other than that so far so good. I'm just concerned because I've noticed the Altima's look worn (paint job) after a couple of years. I do have to say that I like the look of the new Nissan Altima sedan though.

I've only noticed this on my car, not on any others which are of the same year and even older, but my paint job has gone to sh!t. The car isn't shiny anymore. The only way for me to restore it to its natural color (glossy black) is to wax it. I'm guessing that its the clear coat on it though. On the newer altima that we have (02/04) the paint job is great and shiny. Nothing seems to be wrong with it. So maybe my 1998 was just some sort of fluke.

Thank you fishzebby!!

Jana: yes it does have a sleek look to it. I like it because it is a sedan, but it looks more versatile. They are coming out with the coupe in the summer.

girdelvov: I'm not sure it yours is a fluke. I see a few of them with shoddy paint jobs. Let me ask: Is your paint fading? Or is it not shiney? Does it have a little bit of shine to it. Thank you!

I don't know, all of the other Altimas I've seen around here have had great shiny paint jobs. Now although for the first few years of its life the car was in the garage constantly, it has been standing outside for the past 3 or so years, so it could be just weathering of the paint job. You know, the paint job is actually murky and all. Its pretty hard to explain. However, how I said before, that if I wax it (even with cheapy wax) the shine and glossiness of the black paint comes back. So whatever you want to draw from that....lol

I'll let you know! It's a toss about between the accord or the altima. I won't be making a decision until a couple of months down the line. I'll be paying for classes up until November.

I know how that goes. If I were to spend as much money as I've spent so far on a education on a car, I think I could afford a new Scion tc, or a slightly used Subaru WRX....yeah. Well, It'll pay off in the long run.

Have you looked at the Scion TC's by the way? Their handling is crazy! I'm not sure if they only come in two doors or four doors though. If you have a Toyota dealership with crazy salespeople that are especially there for the Scion line, ask them to give you a ride. At the dealership near my home, the salesperson didn't even care that I wasn't looking to buy at that moment. He took me and my SO for a ride on a twisty road behind the dealership and turned at 50mph, with no tire squeaking or anything. This guy was just crazy about the car. Just a thought. Also Volkswagens are pretty reliable.

But anyways, its time for me to come back to reality out of the car world... Smile

Yes, I agree the new scion Tc is very cute! I've had 3 cars a toyota tercel, nissan sentra, and a honda civic. I'm looking for more a mid size vehicle, but thank you for the suggestion.

As for my school debt? Well that's another story. I think I'll be making payments to sallie mae for many years to come. Rolling Eyes These next classes that I will take will be paid from my pocket. I don't want to accrue anymore student loans. Not talking

That's very good thinkin'! The less you owe in the end, the better you'll be. My SO is doing the same thing. However, I can't afford to at the moment Anxious .

Wow, so you've had Nissan's, Honda's, and Toyota's. Did you have any preferences from the cars you've owned before (better for the money, etc.)? I've always heard that Sentra's are the car to 'use and abuse', and that whatever you do to it, it will not blow up....yeahhh..... .
I thought it was funny that today when I was leaving my house, I noticed that my next door neighbor bought yet another Altima. I couldn't tell if it was the '07 though. It's funny because when we moved in, I had my 1998 Altima and they had an Accord. Then they bought a '04 Altima, and so did my parents ('02 or '04...wow I need to figure that out, it's getting embarrassing). And now they bought another one. I guess the next purchase is supposed to come from my side, huh Laughing .

Which one did I think was better for the money? Well...I ended up totaling the tercel at 40,000 miles on it. The Nissan Sentra was terrible for me. Maybe it was a fluke, but I had so many repairs on it by the time got into an accident I had put 94,000 miles on it. I know what you are thinking...no, I didn't do it on purpose. There was 5 yrs in between the accidents. My Honda has lasted me over 220,000 miles on it. It would have to be my Honda. She is a trooper! It is almost time for me to trade her in.

Wow, that's a lot of miles on one car! that's twice as much as mine has gone!!! Have you had any major repairs to do on the Honda? Just curious as to how well Honda's do run since Ive never owned one for more than a week (I bought an accord a few years back, needless to say that its transmission was about ready to fall out of it). And the thought of fixing up accidents with your cars never even crossed my mind btw Wink .

Hi There,

girdelvov: Yes, I've had two repairs that were related to the same thing. Two years ago, my temperature gage was going up while I was driving. Shock I took it the dealership and it turns out that I blew out a gasket in the engine. It cost $1250. This happened again a couple of months ago, but I was able to take it to the dealership before any real damage. It cost almost $500.

Poco: Thank you for letting me know. Very Happy
