I'm flying soon and I'm *trying* not to have to check any bags.
I was just on the TSA website but wanted to confirm - it looks like now you are allowed to carry-on liquid toiletries if they are 3 oz. or smaller? Do they all have to be in a clear plastic bag? If anyone could let me know your experience I would really appreciate it...TIA |

You have to have them in a quart size plastic bag (no bigger, they'll make you "donate" the whole thing.)
They were sticklers with me in Detroit...they took out some of my items to make sure they were three oz. or less. Grrr!
If you have contact solution, you can carry this on but DO NOT put it in your liquids baggie and make sure you declare it to the TSA people. Don't ask me why, they'll make you toss it otherwise. Sucks.
Someone on a thread I posted about this very topic (can't remember who! But I owe you one!) said to print out the rules and take it with you for those "less educated" TSA workers. It actually came in handy for us when it came to my husband's contact solution (they made us toss it the first time we went through).
I spent weeks before my trip collecting sample-sized containers...it worked really well. I'll probably do this from now on, whether they lighten the restrictions or not.
Also...we took an empty Nalgene bottle through security and filled it up at a drinking fountain afterwards...that way we had our water. |

I fly about 130,000 miles a year and I put my contact lens solution in my quart size zip lock. I also throw in my sample size cleanser, moisturizers, toner, cream concealer, shampoo, conditioner and toothpaste. Just remember to pull it out of your bag for the screening. I usually just throw it into the plastic bin that I have my shoes in for the x-ray.
They never hassle me about it and many times the TSA person picks up my bag and uses it for their demo to the rest of the people in the security line.
I usually don't bother removing my lip gloss, eye drops, or hand cleaner from my purse. Some of my friends who also fly a lot had some trouble with their own labelled nalgene bottles. The TSA didn't like the self labelled bottles.
Be careful about arguing with the TSA folks even with the print-out from their website. There are several stories of frequent flyers who got hauled off or told they couldn't fly that day because they started disagreeing at the check point. Not my idea of fair, but this does happen.

Genie...wow...I wish I had the luck you did.
We held up the line just because of my husband's contact solution was over 3 oz. They said we could carry it, but had to declare it and put it in a different bag yada yada yada...then they "donated" it and said next time don't put it in your 3 oz or less baggy.
Grr. I know it's for safety but honestly...if someone who desires ill will wants to get by it, they can quite easily.
It sounds like it just depends on the airport you go through. |

Oh, I guess that's why you got in trouble. My contact lens solution is 2 oz container that my eye doctor gives me. I also see them at Target for $1 sometimes.
I recently watched one lady being searched by TSA. They pulled out big full size bottles of shampoo, conditioner, etc out of her bag. There was quite a large stash of products. I guess she doesn't like to travel "light!" |

I didn't end up flying back east for New Years as I had planned so I can't tell you anything about my personal experience. Plenty of the forum members have traveled recently and can tell you about their experiences though. |

The last time I flew, I had no idea of the new restrictions and showed up with my typical max-size carryon stuffed full of all my favorite skincare products.
I refused to part with them or check them! Called `my client and told him I'd be there a day late because they wouldn't let me take my equipment on the plane and would have to drive. Fortunately, he never asked what equipment i was referring to! |

Haha...sounds like something I would do! While I was in line, a woman had full size lotions and shampoo in her carry-on and was LIVID when the TSA guy told her she'd have to go back and check it or toss it. He actually asked her "Ma'am, have you been paying attention to the news in the past six months?" because she swore up and down she had "never heard of no 3 oz. rule!"
Oy.
And to add, you CAN carry on more than 3 oz of contact solution, as it is considered a medical thing. As long as it's not in your 3oz. baggy. We had no problems the second time around.  |

Hmmm...my oil blend for OCM does not have a label...less than 3 oz. but I wonder if it will be a problem. Guess I can part w/ it if I HAVE to. I'll take some other cleanser as a precaution.
