The curse of winter!! I feel your pain--- when my skin gets super dehydrated, even cream cleansers will make it worse! Anyway, I've found a fool-proof formula that gets my skin back to dewy within a couple of days, every time, so maybe it will help you too.
The first thing is to only wash your face with cleanser and water in the evening. In the morning just wash your face with plain old water, or with a rinseless cleanser like the one from Zenbiotic. Next, what kind of toner do you use? The only toner I've ever found that actually added moisture to my skin is the one from Best Bath Store (www.bestbathstore.com --- you can even request a free sample!). Next, here's my dewy skin combo: Caudalie Grape Water, Zenbiotic Phyto Moisture, and Zenbiotic Moisture Enrich, one after another. You can also throw in some Naturdermx for good measure, as this stuff is ULTRA-hydrating. That combo should help you during the day, and then at night after I wash my face I like Beauty Without Cruelty's Hydrating Face Mask. Talk about powder, I've never met a case of dry skin that this stuff couldn't beat!^-^ After you rinse the mask off do the same moisture combo for night as you did for day, and seriously by the next day your skin should be back to normal. Also try to resist using mineral oils, silicones, etc--- we want to try to heal your skin here. HTH! |

How about hydrating b5 gel before moisturizer? This should help hydrate your skin. |

in mid dec here in vancouver my skin got SO dehydrated that it was scaring me. i was using a cleansing gel, and jurlique calendula cream at that time. i started using damask rose hydrosol spray and yonka milk cleanser and repair copper peptide serum and in a few days there was a huge change in hydration and plump/suppleness in my skin |

If the dryness is that bad consider using a balm like Weleda's Face Balm. I like it and it helps keep my skin hydrated in the chilly weather. |

Winter is so hard on the skin. I always keep emu oil and unrefined shea butter on hand. Usually the emu oil will look after it, but if it doesn't, I apply the emu oil, let it sink in and then add a layer of shea butter -- it always does the trick! |

drink more water, turn on humidifier at work and at home, eat lots of fruits. It will improve much better than applying lots of creams. |

Emu Oil may well be worth a try. It is incedibly healing, soothing and hydrating.
It should help to calm any redness in you skin |

I'm so glad you like it too, MermaidGirl!^-^ The first time I used it I was suprised at how nice/hydrating it was--- now I've almost used up a full-size bottle, so I'll be ordering more soon too. |

Weleda Skin Food is AWESOME!! And it does not break me out (like everything else).
Cetephil Moisturizer. In the jar not the bottle. Its thicker.
I normally have really dry winter skin and this winter my face is perfect. I have been using a cold cream or just cetephil to cleanse...no water (just wipe). And no moisturizer at night (except eyecream) and then in the am I just rinse and use a sunscreen. My skin is clear and looks great. I have stopped using my blemish serums too! A couple of times a week I exfoliate and mask and on those 2 nights a week I use Weleda Skin Food and my face just drinks it in. It feels really heavy at first but then it just sinks right in. Good luck...I had the worst dry winter skin last year and it was a pain. |

Hello Redhead. Try Ellizabeth Grant serums. You won't be disappointed. If you ARE a redhead, you'll appreciate these serums. |

Yet again, I have to agree with SusieQ - The Elizabeth Grant products SAVED me during the winter months when I lived in Northern (and I mean northern!)BC, Canada. Her serums are ultra-hydrating..without being clogging. Her serums and creams are AWESOME for dehydrated, tender skin (too bad you can't get samples!)...I also swear by emu oil..I am using this right now over Tazorac and I'm suffering minimal side effects from the Tazorac (i.e. I don't look like a powdered donut all of the time - just some of the time!)
Good luck!

My mom is just 70 and she lives in Alberta (north of Edmonton in Thorhild) and she just started to use EG, I'll have to check and see what she thinks of it. |

I had this feeling of dehydrated skin yesterday, was a bit flushed and tight feeling - and I put on emu oil and it really has helped a LOT. |

I use it on my hands and rub it into my nails and under my nails, too. My gnarly cuticles are no more and my nails seems to be in better shape...I am so impressed - I would not be without emu oil...Normally, if I use an oil on my face before bed my eyes feel more puffy than usual in the morning - but not with emu oil...The one thing I hate though, is the smell..it really turns me off...it smells like old chicken grease...nasty..but the skin-relieving benefits far outweigh the stench!

I have tried Mario Badescu Herbal Hydrating Serum (its blue). You can put it over your moisturizer or use it alone...it really works and its gentle enough to put on your eyes as well. Its pretty inexpensive and it works.
Oh...one more suggestion...Egyptian Magic is nice too. Its a really thick balm...kinda looks like vasaline and smells like honey. It melts on contact to a nice light oil and you can use it on your face. I am prone to breakouts and I used it a couple of times with no spots. Its $28-$30 at whole foods. |

Olivia YES, love the Egyptian Magic Cream. Its good for every skin problem. Pudoodles you must purchase a jar of this. I prefer it over the emu oil. (Emu oil is good too.) For hydration though Elizabeth Grant). |

Also try a hydrating mask, like the one from PSF, to jump start the moisture in your skin, and then continue to reapply emu or camellia or rose otto oil, any carrier oil purported to replace lipid moisture, to keep the process going...
and I agree with fishzebby that drinking tons of h2o and eating lots of water soluble and fiber-rich foods is essential. Bean sprouts!

red head
i'll just second (or third) the rec for emu oil.
it's a great substance!
imho, it deserves space on the skincare shelf (or closet) and the medicine cabinet. - very healing for all skin types.
water, too - very important. i can feel a big difference when I'm not keeping myself properly hydrated.
also, there are supplements suggested for skin:
vit c, msm, borage oil
eta: I'm not familiar with the products you're using, but could there be something in one or more of them that you are reacting to? |

I use the phytomer hydracontinue line. my skin gets super dehydrated and the serum and instant moisture are the only products to hydrate my skin without causing blemishes |

I third SuzieQ and Poodles on the EG serums and creams for dehydrated/tender skin. They really work!
I think Decléor Aromessence Angelique followed by Decléor Nutri-Delice Delicious Ultra-Nourishing Cream works for super dry skin too. (I noticed Squalane and Oat in the ingredient list.) I received a deluxe sample with my last order and liked it so much that I will probably order full size products when they are finished. |

Red,
Hop in the car and go visit Nordstom's Osmotics counter. Ask for a sample of the Hydrating Cleanser and sample the Blue Copper 5 (they give fairly good size samples). If you find it helpful you can always go back and buy full size. Also if you wear sunscreen try and avoid chemical ingredients. In fact s/s with titanium dioxide might benefit you..it has an anti-inflammatory affect. On a last note, I absolutely love MD Forte's Replenish Hydrating Cream..it's a must for skin that is dehydrated/red--great for windburned skin and for use after chemical peels!!!
