Since I've been really wanting to try Carekate's Pearl Paste, but hesitant abt using the PG or glycerin (also b/c I had none of these on hand), I decided to dissolve 0.12 g pearl powder (which I got from http://www.thejamushop.com/Beauty_pearl.htm -- I used the medicinal grade powder) in ~3 ml SAS Marine Nutrient Serum, ~ 3 ml Aubrey Organics Pure Aloe Vera, and ~ 2 ml 1% HA soln.
So far it seems like a relatively successful attempt, but I was curious to hear opinions or suggestions from DIYers (as I am really new to DIY).
Here are the ingredients of the Marine Nutrient Serum:
Distilled water, sea kelp bioferment, sodium PCA, alpha bisabolol (natural), coconut endosperm, natural active peptides, sodium hyaluronate, guaizulene, Germaben II.
TIA!

jzainoun--I am new to DIY so.....
it seems really strange to me, mixing pearl with marine serum, but i was actually thinking along the same lines the other day .
how is the serum working out for you?
I also took a look at the site for the pearl powder and i could not figure out the pricing for the life of me. Do you mind telling me how much the pearl powder was? thanks!

Hi Kristen,
the pearl powder was 15.00 (including shipping). there are 0.6 GRAMS x 15 TUBES. Here is the link, just scroll down to Internal administration - TCM Medicinal Grade Pearl Powder.
http://www.thejamushop.com/secureorder.htm
The serum is working out pretty well so far, but I've been using it very sparingly b/c I've recently been having a really weird unexplained reaction on my face (it's now moved on to my abdomen area, but thankfully not on my face!) Since I'm still trying to figure out what provoked/provokes it, i've been a little cautious with trying out stuff on my skin, (which is really hard, seeing that my fridge this month has a 100:1 ratio of DIY skincare items:food!). It's really odd, since I've never been allergic in my life
But so far so good with the SKBioferment or NMS(no noticeable "balling", and no skin reaction), and the pearl -- but like I said, i'm using them conservatively.
HTH!

Joann--that is a good deal on the pearl powder actually. Garden of Wisdom sells 1 oz for $8.20 and you paid $15 for 9 ounces (1 ounce = 28.3 grams). I hoped i did that correctly.
Sorry to hear your skin is being weird.
LOL, my room is becoming stashed with DIY things too. Do you refrigerate everything?

Hi skincareaddicted,
Um ... the way I figure it ... .6 gms times 15 comes to 9 gms. Since I was never very good with math ... which answer is correct?
At any rate, again because I am not very good with conversions, I don't know how .12 gms translates into, say, teaspoons. So I'm having difficulty visualizing the ratio of pearl powder to liquid.
If you're trying to have something like Pearl Paste, then as long as the mixture is thickening up to an almost cream-like consistency, you're there.
If, however, you're just trying to get some pearl into the serum and still keep it a liquid serum ... and there are some benefits to that as well ... then you are a better judge than I as to the consistency.
While I don't see any conflict with any of the ingredients ... I have had no experience with sea kelp bioferment ... nor with some of the other ingredients ... so I'm not the best person to respond to that.
I guess it all depends upon what you want it to do.
So sorry you've had a reaction to "something" ... and I hope you resolve that one soon.
Do you have iodine sensitivities? Kelp is a good source of iodine ... although I'm not sure if the bioferment is or not. Just a thought.
HTH

Hi Mary,
I am so not good with math, i used onlineconversions.com and i probably still messed up.
I cannot do math this early in the day, but i am betting you're probably right!

I don't have experience with pearl paste. I do know that it can be used as loose powder if it's very fine. |
