Please tell me what is your favorite. I'm not worried about price. I just want the a great makeup. I used to wear GA Lim. Silk foundation and tried JI. JI pressed powder is my first try at MMU. I love the concept of wearing MMU. I do like the JI but I have oily break throughs. I was going to get Alima samples because I heard that it was less shiny. How about Luminere (sp?)? Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Aromaleigh for me - hands down. I have tried nearly all the brands you can think of and some, except for Lumiere - have some samples of that on order at the moment, so far nothing I have tried out performs Aromaleigh.

(they also seem to have the biggest shade choices and the choice of two finishes - my fav is Glissade. The are also the only MMU that do a shade pale enough for me (I use the 00 - Alabaster).

Lumieres CS has been fantastic though and I have ordered their makeup base which is a white/colourless version of their foundation which according to Kim the Lumiere lady I can mix into the lightest foundation to get a perfect colour match so I have high hopes that it will be a winner - not sure I'll ever give up the Aromaleigh though its my Holy Grail MMU!

Hi Janie,

My favorite and Holy Grail is the Lumiere Veena Velvet Foundation. I tend to have an oily t-zone and don't get the oil breakthrough at all like I did with ALL the other brands I've tried. Like Lucia, I've tried a ton of different brands as well and this is by far my favorite. Kim's customer service is exceptional as well.

That being said, everyone's skin is different and responds to different things, there are a bunch of MMU companies out there so have some fun and sample away.

Uglogirl-www.Uglogirl.com 10% off code EDS10-To-Glo!

Alima-www.alima.com 15% off code CELEBRATE

These are the two best I have tried, excellent quality/customer service and color matching.

I have high hopes for Lumiere but havent gotten my samples to to try it yet.

Lumiere for me too. To echo the other girls, I've tried a ton and this for me works the best as far as foundation goes - no breakouts, lovely finish, very natural, etc...plus great customer service.

I love Alima's blushes - so pretty
I love Aromaleigh for their liners, eyeshadows, and my all time favorite blush Verve (also love Glazed and Nectar)

The customer service from these smaller lines is outstanding - these ladies aim to please and go above and beyond to help.

Like Michelle said, pick a couple if lines and sample away - you're bound to find one that works for you.

I'm a huge JI foundation fan! I use the pressed base in warmer months and the loose base in cooler months. I was also getting oily break-through and I thought I might need to move on. I began using BE Mineral Veil (not partial to it, just the first finishing powder I tried this with) after lunch to touch-up any shiny areas. But many times I would forget to do that. Then I started to apply finishing powder first, before I used either JI product. I wait 30-45 minutes after applying my sunscreen, then I buff on finishing powder with my kabuki, then apply my JI foundation immediately after. This has been 100% reliable for me -- controls oil all day for me and I only touch up with finishing powder during the day (or before going out in the evening) if I want to.

I just posted this on another thread:

Ok I am utterly dissappointed with the JI pressed poweder base.

Pros: Good coverage, easy to apply
Cons: Makes you look "made up" and takes away your natural glow.

The shade was actually ok for my skin- "riviera" but it made me look dull and kind of sick. It was still the same shade as my skin, but had no glow, it made me look kind of dirty..... This is going back immmediately!

I guess it would also depend on what finish you like. Alima has great reviews, but I like a more glowy finish, & Alima was more matte on me. Aromaleigh has great color selection, but wasn't hg for me. They do have some nice illuminating powders though. The very first mmu I tried was BE YEARS ago. I couldn't get a good color match as their choices were very limited back then, especially for tanner girls. They have since come out with more shades, so I thought I'd give BE another try. I think that I really need to just make a final decision on fdn b/c I'm already starting to come full circle. I also tried JI, but don't remember anything special about it. Illuminare has a liquid mineral foundation, but it is a bit cakey/heavy, but gives a nice dewey finish. Sheer cover & Pur Minerals were just ok. I know I've tried more, but can't remember all of the names. Bottom line is, I haven't quite found my hg mmu either. I think I will try Lumiere & BE again & compare them to EDM & make a final decision to put an end to this madness.

Does anyone know which is more "glowy", Bare Minerals, Lumiere or Everyday Minerals?

Hi Leidon,

I'm more tan as well, and I think with BE you still might have to mix two shades to get a really close match. With BE I found that it left a wierd whitish shine on my skin, even when the shade looked good, it still had like an almost pearalized tinge too it, which i didn't like very much.
So far I like The EDM much better. It makes you matte without taking away your glow, just enhances it.

Okay, I was a toal ID BE follower until last Friday when I attended a make event sponsored by Glo Minerlas at my local spa. Wow! I love their satin finish foundation. It is a liquid foundation that totally matches my skin color and gives a fuller coverage than ID. I like it for going out or for a change. Also, it dries more matte and looked more even but I think it still looks more natural thanreg make up. I love it! I am sorry to admit this but it looks better on my winter skin than ID. I probaby would go back to ID in the summer but here in the winter with these recent Cali "cold" temps and wild winds, I think my skin has been refreshed by the liquid of Glo Minerals. They sell several forms of the make up: a pressed powder, a loose powder, a liquid, and something else.? Anyway ladies, I highly suggest you try and this is coming from a girl who woships Ms. Leslie from ID. I think overall, Glow gives me amore satin, polished look whereas, ID gives my complexion a more shimmery luminosity. I'm not sure which one looks better but they both look damn good. It just depends on your preference or what u want to portray that day. HTH

I also like Lumiere very much, also Meow Cosmetics. Most of the smaller MMU companies make a better MMU then the large co's IMO.

Has anyone tried Terrafirma? They have a new formula with dry water that I like very much, called H20 minerals.

I really like the glo minerals pressed powder, finishing powder and they have some great concealers too. I did have to change my moisturiser to a slightly more heavy duty one (Dr H - Quince Day cream works a treat).

My skin took a little while to adjust from Clarins foundation to the Glo Minerals pressed base, but it hasv been so so worth it.

With Everyday Minerals you can go as glowy as you want as they have different finishes. I like the semi-matte-- great coverage, but not too much, and just a touch of glow. They also have a matte foundation, which I've tred samples of, and I liked it too. Just depends on what look you're going for.

I have tried about 20 different companies. There is currently 3 or 4 companies that I order from.

Jenulence - full coverage foundation
Lumiere - brushes, Veena Velvet foundation (medium coverage), nice eye shadows also
Silk Naturals eye shadows, best finishing powders, cream eye liners, lippies, wonderful blushes. Her foundation is mix your own. I bought a sample pack but have not mixed it up yet.
Lure Beauty eye shadows, body products
SheSpace nice blushes but her forte is eye shadows! Samples are .50 each. I have her silica powder on order (Cashmere stockings and Cashmere Kisses)
Buff'd great must have blushes

I am 47 with oily sensitive skin. I prefer full coverage foundation. I am usually the lightest warm shade.

Jane Iredale, Afterglow Cosmetics and Dr.Hauchka are my favourites. They tend to do wonders for the skin. They do not cause irritation. It is especially great for those with acne. Brands such as clinque, mac, estee lauder contain harmful ingredients that ruin the skin. Notice after prolonged use the skin looks dull and lifeless? Mad

Another Aromaleigh fan here. I've been using this line for over four years now and love the foundation powders. I use Pure Cover in places on my face where I like slightly heavier coverage, and Voile on the rest. Glissade makes me a little too dewey for summer (I'm very oily) but I will play with my samples when the weather gets colder and drier.

As others have said, most MMU companies sell small sample sizes so you can test-drive shades and textures. Mixing shades is so easy, and I've been able to get a perfect match for my skin - something I was never able to accomplish with traditional liquid foundations.

My skin is much happier with mineral powder. I used liquid foundation for, gosh, twenty years, though not heavily; only around my nose and on trouble spots. Then I'd use loose face powder over it all. But my pores are much less clogged with MMU. I'll never go back to regular makeup! Very Happy

Thinking back, I did have problems with a line I sampled before Aromaleigh, but I can't remember the name of it. It had bismuth oxychloride in it, and made me itch terribly! No such problem with Aromaleigh.

Like most of you, I have tried zillions of different MMUs and after abot 5 years I have finally found my HG...I started using Glo Minerals loose base last month, and oh my gosh-I LOVE it!! I got the golden medium and I cannot stop looking in the mirror:) It has really given me that "J Lo"glow I have been hunting for! I really hope I don't break out or have a reaction to it because I am truly happy with this so far! Laughing
