I went through a Benefit buying phase over Christmas (the cutey packaging).
Benefit Bluff Dust:
A yellow tinted very fine milled powder that is intended to correct red tones on the skin. I wanted to try this as I used TLeClerc before and as much as I liked it, the pink/yellow undertones looked overdone on my olive/goldey toned skin. The powder comes loose in a generous sized container with a puff - one of those packages with the small holes to shake the powder into the pan. Not the best for the handbag or for habitual "powder on the suit" clutzes like me. But the finish makes up for this. For those like me that have a tendency to get red small blemishes or marks from blemishes, this powder is excellent. It gives a translucent finish (so may be good for other tones as well), has not given me any zits, is light on the skin and perfect to set makeup or on its own. Best of all, it does not look "muddy" at the end of the day and really brightens the skin.
I also rediscovered an old favorite:
Benetint pink tinged cheek and lip wash. This was in a different handbag friendly version like a lip gloss with a brush on one end for the benetint and a clear gloss wand on the other for the lips. Fab for on the go when I dont want to look made up. In fact I have ditched my other lipsticks in the past weeks.
I also got samples of the Eye Brightening cream and I thought it was fantastic under makeup for brightening the eye area.
The only product that was "iffy" and I am not sure how to use to max effect is Moonbeam. I bought Moonbeam as a highlighter and for the funky package (how sad). It comes a liquid with an iridescent type finish for nighttime. I used it twice on the cheek and it just seemed to give me the "shine-neys" though it was a subtle lovely glow. I mean I should have guessed from the name that for someone who naturally gets shiney then it was not really for me. I was too hesitant to use it all over the face. This one might be a hand-over to one of the sisters or use for on the body/shoulders for night out. Anyone else used this to good effect?
I am curious now to see what other goodies I might find at the Benefit counter. Counters at in London I know are Boots Oxford St (Bond st side), Debenhams, John Lewis: all with great service.

Thanks for the review on the bluff dust, I've been meaning to try that.
As far as the moon beam goes, it's not intended to be used on your whole face since it's a highlighter -- it's just to make you look like you have some bone structure. It is a bit shiny, but shouldn't be refelctive, so try using the smallest amount possible. Also, don't put in on the apples of your cheeks where you would use blush -- put it higher up on your cheekbones (think models in couture ads, how their cheekbones always catch the light) and sweep a tiny bit onto your temple. Also put a little on your brow bone.
I also prefer highbeam to moonbeam -- the iridescence of moonbeam doesn't look right to me, while the highbeam just looks like light is catching your fab bone structure (I have no bone structure).

I personally don't recommend moonbeam as its too shiny on the face.
I think it makes my face looks oily somehow....When I saw my picture with moonbeam on eye lid and cheek, I felt I looked ugly with uneven face tone > < |

Talc, mica, yellow 5 lake, dimethicone, magnesium myristate, nylon-12, polyethylene, silica, titanium dioxide, phenyl trimethicone, polymethyl methacrylate, corn starch, methylparaben, sodium dehydroacetate, squalane, propylparaben, butylparaben, iron oxides, ascorbyl palmitate, tocopheryl acetate, iron oxides.

| I tried the Bluff dust and didnt find it overly impressive it didnt exaggerate my pores but any little dry patches looked really noticable and flaky, I sometimes found that it looked too yellow even when only using a little. I now only use it every once in a while if skins not dry and im going out or that, but generally forget that I have it |

i forgot whether i have moonbeam or highbeam.. but anyhow, here's how to use it best
while applying foundation, take note to apply a little bit less around the cheekbones. After doing the rest of the face, mix a tiny bit of highbeam/moonbeam with your foundation, lightly pat on the area you want to highlight
Then dust finishing powder. THen you get an inner glow effect.
I do have to admit as highlighters, benefit highbeam/moonbeam are very overrated. For fluid ones, armani fluid sheers are better, for even more subtle ones, YSL complexion enhancer in the pink pearl is really nice.
For powder ones, guerlain meteorite and MAC beautypowders are pretty subtle. For more glow and shimmeriness, the MAC mineralised skinfinish and Bobbi Brown shimmerbrick are better. |
