Hello again!
I am just beside myself with happiness today, since, thanks to DIY add-ins to my existing arsenal of hair care products, my hair is looking better than ever! And this, only one week after rebounding from its most bedraggled state ever... Here was a picture I took, to show my salon-owning sister my home-done highlights , before I knew what was really going on and before it got REALLY bad. You can see that the hair is dull and kind of lying lifeless and flat, but still acceptable (taken in early nov):
And then, here is when I was recently taking pics of Julie Hewitt's newsprint blue hue pot on my eyes--I wouldn't even let my hair down at this point, because it would tangle into veritable rats nests almost immediately (you can see the dead, fried-looking ends and breakage in the front"
AND NOW TODAY!!!!! check it out!
You can obviously see why I am smiling today. I used christophe robin's cleansing conditioner and just a little aloe and honey mixed with feria color-protection conditioner on my ends. And rinsed with 1/4 acv 3/4 filtered water. That's IT!
Apple cider vinegar is my new religion. That's all I can say!

Hi avalange and Vonstella,
Do you not rinse off the ACV afterwards? I;d be worried about the smell...

The smell fades once your hair dries I swear, if you are really that worried about it, do the rinse before you shampoo or inbetween S-ing & C-ing. |

Got it, thanks. I'll try that. Do I just pour a diluted cup of ACV over my head? |

Well kinda! Just do it slowly to ensure you are getting all your strands. |

I fill the sink with water and add ACV, then I let my hair soak in the water a few minutes before and after shampooing. I have really long and thick hair so just using a bottel would never work for me.
Avalange, you should try the weleda rosmary hair oil. It's really nice! |

You and your hair look lovely.
I tried ACV diluted with water and it made my hair all fluffy. Is there a trick I'm missing?

I added ACV to my shampoo and the same thing happened to me...actually, it made my hair kind of frizzy...
Avalange, your hair looks great...which reminds me, I still need to look for that hard water filter! |

Hey thank you! It's called "caramel kiss," by Feria, and I do it myself!
I am now alternating the Feria single process with their new double-process DIY kit in Ginger (6.3), which, as you can see, has given me some nice subtle highlights. I love this color, and if I could find wella color charm in exactly this color, I would be forever 'stoked.'

P.S. I JUST got my hair highlighted (desperately needed it as I am going to be job interviewing soon) and about 6-8 inches cut off (I was soooo sad to lose the length, but it looked so bad) and now that I see your hair color, I am thinking I might have to try shades in that range now!
Do you think it would go well on someone who is fair with pink undertones? My eyes are fairly close to your color (brown with green/hazel "highlights"). My stylist does my hair in sort of a wheat blonde, so I'm not sure something more golden/warm would work on me. |

I'm laughing very hard right now. I would never have thought that Feria hair color and Apple Cider Vinegar could be considered glamorous! thank you so much, that's a real compliment. I love adding dashes of glamour into my life as a student--garter belts and stockings, valmont masks, bathing in essential oils, juicing bergamots, and wearing opera-length gloves and 3/4 length coats--and that's about the extent of it at the moment... We should start a thread--what makes you feel glamorous? I cannot; I have to do back to dissertating now...

Yes, that's a great idea for a thread, go on; start it and lets take it from there. I am sure it would offer lots of inspiration for creating lots of glamorous moments in our days. |

hi Mermaidgirl,
In my opinion, the color "caramel" is grossly underrated as far as hair color AND lip color go... I am not sure that this color would be flattering to your complexion, but ONLY because, as you can see, I am very olive-toned and I tan to a dark nut brown in about five minutes--the complete opposite of pink/fair. My eyes, skin, and hair are naturally "khaki" in tone, so I rely on my hair color to brighten me up and balance me out. Some people think my hair color is "strawberry blonde," but I think it is honey-caramel, or light golden brown... I personally love it, and it is very close to my color that I had as a child. It does not come out brassy at all... So if you can imagine yourself with strawberry blonde hair, then this color is for you--perhaps a rich honey base with wheat-colored highlights would be nice...? As you can see, I LOVE thinking about color!

ACV is really great. I use it on occasion as well as I find it's great at helping my dry and itchy scalp and gives my hair a really nice shine. Now if only I could make my hair thicker! |
