Oh my God! If only it's for real.
I was just browsing the Jan Marini Bioglycolic products after an unpleasant experience using one of their lotions (see reviews) and wondering why they don't warn you of the strength of this line when I came across this...
BIOGLYCOLIC EYE CREAM which says it has "a new ingredient that has a lipolytic effect in fat pockets in the lower eyelids. Simply put, lipolysis is the process which enables tissues to release fat cells in areas that are resistant to fat metabolism. "
Does anyone know anything more about this; whether the science is for real or are there any actual users out there. |

Molly,
OMG I hope this is for real. Frankly I don't quite understand why a skin care company has not come out with a product for BAGS. Will look into JM. Thanks Molly.
I'm back: Read about it on EDS and ordered it. Here we go another shot at shrinking bags. The price was not bad at all. I think there has to be something to it as Jan Marini is not one of those companies that is trying to make a quick buck. Their reputation is very important to them. JM products are sold in many high end salons. |

Yes Winnie, actually it was your comment to me about liposuction for eyes that made this strike a chord - it's a really lucky accident burning my face with their lotion .
A word of warning though, I found their bioglycolic face lotion way too strong and they give no warning of the high level of AHAs in it on their website or on my packaging. One EDS user tells me it's 12% and she always buffers with camellia oil. So go easy with it.
Do report back ASAP. I'm very excited by this, but I simply can't get any more packages delivered. It's not the price this time (it's so cheap!), but I have to wait for the local gossip since my last batch of packages to die down first. M. |

OMG! I'm pretty sure I have developed one of those fat bags under my left eye! The left side of my face looks sleepy...and it won't de-puff!!! I'm horrified - I thought it was just because of lack of sleep etc., but even when I rest well and lay off the salt it is still there...It just sort of came out of nowhere!! Please let us know what you think of this product, Winnie!

My ugly bag is so much worse on my left side too. Go figure I will let you know if the Jan Marini eye cream does anything
Kind of off topic of bags, but have you ever taken a white piece of paper and covered one side of your face? Then do the other side. In my case my right side is more attractive. I was told that we all have a male and female side. Guess my left side is the male side. Not saying guys don't look great. (My right side is softer and more feminine). The same is said for men. |

Maybe it is the left side b/c that is the side that faces the window when driving and would get more sun exposure and therefore more damage? My left side directly under my eye (I don't have bags but fine lines...) is worse than my right. |

One eye may be worse than the other if that's the side that you sleep on. Sometimes one eye will be more puffy than the other b/c you sleep on that side & lipo-phosphates & lymphatic fluid can accumulate on that side of your face. The skin is thinner under your eye, so it can be more noticable. Do you girls sleep on your left side?
Just a thought! |

Hi pdsadhaka,
I sleep on my left side - and it is my left eye that is puffed up all the time! If this is my problem - will it go away if I sleep on my back? If so, do you know how long it will take to "deflate"?

Sorry Pudoodles, but if it really is a 'fat' bag, rather than a 'puffy' bag it will never deflate (unless this new fat eliminating product works). To-date the only way is surgery. Maybe Darren knows more about this than me, but as far as I'm aware these fatty bags are where the tissue has degenerated and in the under eye area the skin and muscle are closely inter-twined so the muscle turns to fatty stuff. This is usually hereditary -so take a look at your parents!
It's a horrible surprise when your puffiness won't reduce anymore, I know. I got this fat bag when I was 34 after several months of eye infections. Eventually I persuaded my doctor to send me to an eye specialist who really didn't have a very pleasant bedside manner. He said 'it's not puffy, it's degenerative tissue - it's your age!'. I said 'I'm not 84, I'm 34'. 'Exactly', he said 'it's an aging problem'. Whoah, was I shocked, because I looked so young for my age all over. I really couldn't believe it.
These bags are nasty. I'm hoping you're just puffy. |

I'll just add. Another reason I'm convinced that the undereye skin/muscle has degenerated is because of the way the Cellcosmet eye cream seems to work on the eye's orbital muscle in a plumping way. It doesn't work at all on the bag, there's no response from the eye - I guess because there's no muscle to pump up. And I've got a 'control' eye and a 'fatty' eye to compare, which is lucky in some ways |

I've tried the JM eye cream and virtually all other eye creams and serums that promise to reduce puffiness and bags under the eyes, and they all did NOT work. So severely depressed as I was that I considered Mesotherapy, a way of injecting certain substances into the skin to dissolve and melt away the fatty deposits. Went for a consultation and the derm flat out refused to do it for me because she is convinced that mine isn't fat but merely laxity of the skin due to aging (her words) and I'm barely 30!!!! She told me to consider Thermage specially for the undereye area but the machine is not in yet, only the one for the face...but but I'm only 29 and I've always thought Thermage was meant for more mature skin?? Now I can only tilt my head up slightly so as to make the puffs seem a little less obvious. My eyes depress me so much I hide behind my glass anytime I'm in public. Sigh. |

Hi Fenn, I'm sorry you've got the bags so young that must be dreadful. I can imagine you're really fed up.
Interesting to hear someone's tried the eye cream, but I'm wondering if you really do have the fatty bags or just slack skin like your doctor says. How long did you try it for by the way?
If topicals don't work did you ever try face exercises? That had quite a good tightening effect on my undereyes until very recently and I'm quite a bit older than you. Actually, thinking about it, I've been a bit lazy with the exercises lately - there's so little time since I joined the forum between layering all the substances on my face. I might go back to it more vigorously. |

As far as I know (and I'm no doctor), the only way to get rid of fat deposits is to have them surgically removed. There is a differnce between fat deposits & skin that sags to create a "bag" due to a lack of elasticity. Nothing can be done about fat deposits. Lipolysis is a scam according to the medical estheticians & plastic surgeons that I have asked about it since I read this post. They said it is another untested new treatment (like thermage), but without the results (good or bad). I don't know. They said the only thing that might work is radio-frequency therapy, that might break up the fat deposits, but they would not dissolve & would just be smaller lumps of fat. |

Pbsadhaka, thanks for finding out even though it's disappointing news. I did wonder after I emailed Jan Marini and asked 'how long' and if there was any evidence this worked etc. and they didn't reply
Fenn, a lot of people report Vit C serum firms up their undereye area well, did you try it? Back to the face exercises for me - M |

I used up the entire jar and was even contemplating getting another one thinking maybe I needed more time and more product to see results but I really disliked the texture of the cream so never got it again. It's got a really odd feel and was never easy to smooth on. Yet it left my skin sticky. Oh well.
And yea, I've tried so many different Vit C serums but my eyes still look puffy. It's really frustrating. I think I'm going to take the plunge and order Skin Renu's Serum P for under eye puffiness. It's availabe at a spa where I live but it's horribly expensive and I've found a site that sells it for much cheaper,www.theskincareinstitue.com. It's not cheap either at $65 but still cheaper than laser treatment. I really really hope this one works,if only a little.
I haven't tried facial exercises, how do you do it? Will it help to tighten the skin? Thanks so much Molly! |

Hi fenn - I find it really difficult to describe how to do any face exercises. I've been asked before on the forum but I think my answers just confuse people more. Best to have a look at some books or DVDs. I think I now prefer flexeffect (www.flexeffect.com) for the eyes, but I don't think it's available in shops. Facercise is goodish for the eyes (www.facercise.com) but beware the forehead and eyebrow exercises unless you want to look constantly surprised. Someone also posted a few web pages with exercises on them a few months ago in the lounge, but I don't have the energy to search for them. I think the title of the thread was 'Are face exercises any good' or something. Good luck - M |
