So I have been doing OCM for a week now, trying combos of castor oil and both grapeseed and extra virgin olive oil and while my face feels really soft, I am getting a few white heads out but no blackheads. I really want to get all of the gunk out of my nose..any ways I can tweak OCM or is there something better out there for stubborn blackheads?
Thanks! |

I have the same exact question. I have also been doing OCM for about a week but my blackheads are not budging either. Any advice would be much appreciated. When I do OCM, I do feel a grainy texture that I am assuming is from the removal of some oil plugs but how long is it supposed to take to see visible results? I can be patient if I know that in time this will work. |

What I did to jump start the oil cleansing method is that I lightly steamed my face. I boiled water and poured it into a bowl and draped a towel over my head steaming away for about 1-2 minutes, just enough to open the pores up a bit. After that I toweled off my face with a clean towel and them applied the OCM. Make sure if you have the Castor oil plus another oil in the same bottle to shake it well before pouring into your hand. Also, I find that the real key is to massage your face with the OCM for at least 5 minutes each night. There have been times that I have been lazy and only done it for 2 minutes or so and haven't felt anything really coming out from my skin. However the times that I have massaged the oil around for 5 minutes or more that is when I have felt the "plugs" coming out and although it sounds gross it is quite frankly exhilarating when you see them on your hand. I am under the impression that it takes several minutes for the oil to sink into the pores and start dissolving the stuff that is already there.
In my experience, if you do this for 5 minutes per night I would count on a few weeks to see serious results in blackhead removal provided that you are massaging around and especially getting the T-zone. For me it took a few weeks before I visibly noticed smaller looking and cleaner pores and I didn't have that many blackheads to start with. Overall I am really pleased with this cleansing method and am very happy that I tried it (and more importantly) continue to use every night.
I should add a tip, I found that Olive Oil was too heavy for me, so I started with Sweet Almond Oil mixed with the Castor oil 50/50% each and that works for me. Almond oil is a very light oil. It also is supposed to help with facial redness. You can always adjust the amounts to suit your skin best. |

Maybe you should try the rinse off oil cleansers. I find that they remove the little buggers from my face, i can actually feel them coming off actually. I recommend DHC's or Garden of Wisdom. There are also recipes you can follow if you prefer to make it yourself:

What does DHC stand for? I have a feeling I am going to feel really stupid when the answer is posted. |

Frodo, DHC doesn't stand for anything actually. It's just a japanese skin care company name.

I have been trying the steam before and that has definitely been helping, so I will stick with that. However, I am only doing it at night because I don't want to dehydrate my skin with the double steam in the winter. I have tried DHC's deep cleansing oil and while I loved the feeling of my skin with using them...they didn't do anything for my blackheads. I will stick with OCM for the next couple of weeks and keep you all updated. |

I had a lot of tiny bumps on my forehead that I could feel, but not see. I tried the OCM for the first time last week, mostly on my forehead. I could feel lots of gritty stuff coming off and the next day, I couldn't feel any bumps! I have a cut on my nose, but as soon as it heals I'm gonna OCM the crap outta those pores!
This forum is so educational! Thank you all. |

I just looked up the ingredients for Boscia. I can't even pronounce half of them. Are these good for the skin? |

Thanks for listing the ingredients. I saw a some good reviews on it. And my sister used it and loved it. But the price is kinda expensive for her. .. I'm going to get this later.. kind of broke right now. Boscia is run by FANCL, a Japanese brand. I tried only a little sample and loved it, too.

It took a couple of weeks for me to see results when I started using OCM. But what I noticed immediately was weather the oil blend I was using washed off well and how it left my skin feeling. I love Laventine's oil. The ingredients seem to be the most natural of the manufactured cleansing oils I've read about.
I have not experimented with making my own oil blend for OCM because I've had great results with Laventine and it's not worth the hassle to me to mess on my own when I can just buy a good thing (and it's not too expensive).
As for the blackheads... I had small ones on my nose and chin when I started. Over time, they loosened and came out without much help from me. |

I have a blackhead problem also and oily skin! I know oil cleansing on oily skin "does not make you break out and can help correct the problem and help clear black heads". That being said, I tried it and it did none of those things for me. The last oil cleanser I used was DHC olive oil cleanser and though I loved it for makeup removal it did nada for my blackheads and I feel like my skin was getting more oily.
These are things I have tried for my blackhead problem:
IS Active-I love this stuff so much I want to drink it at times. HOWEVER, it has not corrected my blackhead issue. Yes, it's helped but I still got a lot of bh on my nose and my cheek area on both sides of my nose, but the other improvements I've seen on my skin is reason for me to keep using Active.
Clarisonic-I love this thing too. Once you use a clarisonic you won't go back. This thing is great and yes it's helped my bh issue but it's not gotten rid of them. Again, the other benefits I receieve from the clarisonic is reason I love it so much.
I could go on and on with other things I've tried that didn't give me the results I wanted; but I've had success in my bh battle and the following list are the products I used and they got rid of 90-95% of my blackheads.
Cleanser: Anti -bacterial (I've tried a few but my favorite is the one from Neo-Strata) 2x a day followed after removal of make up.
Day Time: I used Neo-Strata Day Time Smoothing Cream; it's moisturizing with I think 8% AHA.
Evening: Anti-bacterial cleanser, followed by Pro-Active repair solution.
*I also steamed my face like 3x a week*
The reason I don't follow this regime is because my skin has changed. In addition to oily skin, and blackheads I'm now trying to combat the signs of aging so I'm trying to find a new routine that will combat everything...dare to dream.
In my experience I feel the staple products that will help with blackheads are:
Anti-bacterial cleanser
AHAs specifically glycolic acid.(I've not had much luck with BHAs like Salicylic acid in regards to blackheads.)
Benzoyl peroxide
