I will be travelling via Japan when going to Thailand and have a 4 hour stopover at NRT. Is anyone aware of what skincare/makeup item I can buy at the airport if any. |

I don't know my way around that airport, but if you can get a good price on Komenuka Bijin Cleansing Powder or Yu-Be hand cream, I'd highly recommend them. |

i go back to asia every year and I always have a 2-3 hour layover at the airport. I wander around alot, but alot of products that have, asia has as well. And the price is alot more expensive in jpan for their own product. I realized that..a lot of japnese people would go to HK to buy their own products cuz its so much cheper. Their J&J magazines are really cool, its filled with color fashionable clothes and they have this makeup section that shows you how almost every makeup would look on you. Pretty cool..you should check that out..its always at the bookstores they have too, |

Sonu, are you in terminal 1 or 2? (which airline?)
The duty free is pretty good here and there are some nice finds.
Airside (ie only for those in transit or passed through immigration) has 3 or 4 different branded duty free stores and each has its own specialties.
You will find all the normal big names (Chanel, Dior, Estee Lauder, etc.) plus a few surprizes: Orlane, La Prarie, L'Occitane, Jurlique, La Mer, etc.
My recommendation is to know your prices at home before you leave.
here are some links to the Duty free shops at NRT, so you can check out range and pricing:
http://www.e-japannavi.com/shop/duty_free/empire/index.shtml
https://www.japan-dutyfree.com/page/top_01.asp
http://www.jaldfs.co.jp/index.html
I tend to shop at Japan Duty Free or sometimes JAL-DFS because they both give me a 10% discount since I have a JAL gold credit card. (LOVE this card!! even if flying economy class I get to check-in at business class counter and avoid the lines!!)
If you want to do some brand shopping, then you will be more than satisfied with Ferragamo, Hermes, Tiffany, etc.
OH and on April 9th, our new 5th Avenue duty free brand mall opens in terminal 2 - gucci, burberry, coach, bvlgari will be in it, and so will a small appliance duty free store!. I am gonna have to go to the airport REALLY early on June 1st.
If you are transiting in T2, there is a really nice massage place (Raffine). For $20 you can get your travel stress munched out of your shoulders!! And of course there is a Yahoo! cafe to catch up on mails (and for reading EDS ) |

Definitely pick up magazines at the airport! Most of them are filled with loads and loads of pictures anyway, so nevermind not being able to read Japanese. I like Pinky, Vivi, JJ and Elle Japan. From the magazines you can get ideas about beauty products that are 'hot' right now. |

You can tell which terminal you will arrive at by the airline you are flying on. Which airline are you on? |

I went on UA too and stop by for couple hours. I didn't see any cosmetic duty free shop at all, only magazine store and some hand made stuff... |

You will be in Terminal 1 South Wing. I always end up with a 5 hour layover there when I fly UA. There are actually several duty free shops selling skincare and make-up items in Terminal 1. You can check out the Terminal 1 shops and duty-free places by going to http://www.narita-airport.jp/en/guide/index_t1.html
Just make sure you know your prices and exchange rates so you can determine if you are getting a good deal. I haven't found the airport pricing to be that great.
Terminal 1 also has a day room/shower rental facilities. It's nice if you want to rest and freshen up after a long flight before moving on to your next destination. |
