I'm looking to find a good concealer to cover flat, redish/brown acne marks. I'm currently using clinique advanced concealer (been using it for years) and it's pretty good for covering up existing acne spots. But it's pretty drying, which is good for acne but probably not so great for acne scarring.
Does anyone know of a concealer for pale skin that I could use on old acne scaring as well as around the edges of my nose, which are also redish in color, that isn't drying?
Thanks!! |

I recommend a pencil concealer to cover tricky small blemish marks. These marks are not necessarily easy to cover with a concealer brush so a pencil gives you precise application...just pencil it in and blend with your fingers. I like Laura Mercier Flawless Fix concealer pencil because it gives me good coverage and the texture is slightly waxy so it is easy to apply/blend and doesn't dry to a chalky finish or exacerbate the flakes around the pimple. It also has a built in sharpener. I hear MAC makes a good one too. For around the edges of the nose, I recommend Avene Couvrance pen in green. The pen brush is perfect for applying around the nose and the green is great for cancelling out the redness, and looks completely natural once blended. Here's the Avene concealer---> |

I have dark acne scars on my cheeks...maybe 15 on each...I'm a picker. I love...PX Flawless, Glo Minerals and Lauren Hutton's concealers in her face kit. |

Thanks so much Olivia and Dollbird for the suggestions! I'm going to go look them all up and check them out!
Dollbird, I had heard about using green to cancel out the redness but the one I tried before (I think it was MAC) just ended up leaving a green hue around my nose. But you say the Avene doesn't do that? Sounds promising!
Thanks |

No, the Avene goes on more sheer than MAC so it is blendable into an undetectable finish. |

Dollbird,
Thanks, Avene sounds pretty good, where do you get it? I noticed EDS doesn't carry it.

I have tried many concealers over the years, but stopped with Rimmel hydrasense flawless concealer. It is the liquid type with a sponge type applicator. I use it on any red spots and around my nose. |

I'm in Canada, and Avene can be found at London Drugs or Shoppers Drug Mart. |

The Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Concealer SPF10 is really great. It blends nicely and lasts all day. I use it on blemishes, around my nose, and even on my eyelids. |

I've been using cover Fx- its a canadian brand and it is highly pigmented and so a little goes along way. The one I use is actually a cream foundation (but I use it as a concealer only). I use MAC as well, but only for slight under eye circles, I don't feel that it covers my old acne scars well. With the Cover Fx- I don't see any old marks at all.

Thanks DollBird, I'm in Canada as well and now that I think of it I think I've seen Avene in Shoppers Drug Marts here. I'll check it out. |

Sundrew,
I checked out the link you attached about the Joe Blasco concealer. It seems to have gotten pretty good reviews. Everyone seems to agree that they love it but that it has the worst packaging ever! The Red neutralizer might be what I'm looking for!
Thanks for the suggestions everyone, you've given me so much to follow up with! |

I use Maybelline Pure Concealer, it covers really well, lasts all day & is relatively inexpensive. |

I use Bobbi Brown's Blemish Concealer because I have yellow undertones. Every other concealer I've tried has been too pink or orange. |

I am also quite pale (NC15).
My current concealer of choice is Maybelline Instant Age Rewind in Fair. Really, any of the drugstore tubes of liquid concealer all work the same, and very well. Believe me, I wish I could recommend something nicer. I hate having cheapy looking makeup, lol. But I have tried sooo many concealers, including the top recommended ones, like Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage and Cle de Peau's concealer, and they all looked horrid. I think a lot of it has to do with their having more of a yellow undertone, which is terribly unflattering on me.
Whatever it is, the tubes of liquid concealer from any drugstore brand always cover well and blend seamlessly.
The real key, though, in covering spots is application, more so than a particular concealer. You must must must use a concealer brush and loose powder. Just put the concealer directly on the spot with a concealer brush, then pat on some loose powder to set the concealer and help blend the color into your foundation. That should cover the mark completely. It sounds time consuming, but it's not. It's very quick, and VERY effective.
Again, though - they key is BOTH the brush and the powder. For some reason, people never think they need the brush, and that a finger will work just as well. It doesn't. You must use the brush to put the concealer DIRECTLY on the spot. |

Bobbi Brown Blemish Concealer has my vote. Good for covering up both blemishes and scars. |

I guess I'm one of those people that think the finger is just as good for applying liquid concealer. I'd like to try the brush though but I have no idea what it even looks like. Does EDS carry one? |

I have acne scars and have used (and loved) Cle de Peau concealer in Ochre for years. I apply with Urban Decay's Wonder Brush (after warming it a bit on the back of my hand). I used to use Benefit no 13 brush with it but prefer the Wonder Brush. |
