HI
Anyone know of anything that helps uneven blothy skin tones? I have heard about some of the neutrogena product they have but am tired of spending money on a hope and a prayer. I would rather buy something that someone else had some luck with. Thanks. |

Hi Maree464,
This was the first question I asked when I joined this forum!
However, there are a few questions about your skin that you need to answer before you will know what is right to use on your skin:
-is your skin oily, dry, or a combo?
-do you have sensitive skin?
-are you trying to get rid of sun damage, acne scars, or just red uneven skin tone?
Mabsy told me to try a Vit C serum (she recommend Vivier and something else but cannot remember), which was a great suggestion and I have started using a Vit C serum (with 10% stable L-Ascorbic acid) and I have already noticed a difference. My dermatologist recommended Kinerase and I have also tired that (I started using it before I tired Vit C serum) and it works all right but it is a slow process. Kinerase is suggested if you have sensitive skin and cannot use Glycolic acid or products with Retinol. I have not tried Glycolic acid (which is an AHA) or any products with Retinol because I am still researching and I am really tentative to use anything so strong on my face. I have fine lines around my eyes, sun damage, and blotchy skin but feel that it may be a bit to early for me to start with such harsh chemicals on my face.
This forum is wonderful!! I say just research the heck out of all the different options and see what other people say and you will find what is right for you.
Oh, one other thing that I am doing that is really helping with the blotchiness: vinegar! There are DIY recipes for Homemade Apple Cider Vinegar (posted by Carekate) that is really good but also other people talk about the benefits of using vinegar as a toner. Just be careful to not dry you skin out!
Good luck and hope this is helpful!! |

Hi,
I use vit c serum and yes it helps to even out the overall complexion also to firms the skin and reduces lines.
I recommended these following brands (price in £ - British pounds):
Cellex C High Potency Serum, £84 for 30ml (I think about 15% stabilised vit C)
Henry Tianus Antioxidant Youthful Essence, £30 for 25ml (20% stablised vit C) - excellent product as it also contains anti ageing botanical cocktails, hyaluronic acid, pro-vitamin B5, AHA (lactic acid). They also have the alternative for oily/acne prone skin called Antioxidant Purifying Serum (10% stabilised vit C plus purifying botanicals cocktails, pro-vitamind B5, AHA (lactic acid) at £22 for 25ml.
Dr Sebagh Vit C powder cream, £72 for 9 grams
If you are in the US, you can also try Skinceuticals. |

I've edited out the URL from your post (and some of your others). I have nothing against this if it's genuine but ever since you came here almost every post of yours contains a link to a Henry Tianus product. People tend to do that in order to increase the ranking of the site and also to advertise of course - if that is the case then this is not welcome here. |

maree464 - I think you got some very good recommendations. Vitamin C is certainly the first thing that comes to my mind. Carrie's ACV toner is another and Dr Hauschka Cleansing Cream might also help. We do need to know your skin type though to help you more. |

Hi Mabsy,
Thanks a lot for letting me know!
I will not be posting the url anymore as I am just one of their happy customer and don't want to make people think I am part of the company or advertise their product. I just found their vit c serum is excellent and cheaper than ones that I previously used.
Sorry if my previous posts causing any concern! I do like this forum a lot!

Thanks for the replys...I believe my skin tone is combination. I feel it is pretty normal but has a few shiney areas (the nose mostly). I have never sun bathed but because of not using a sun screen ( I know, I know )I have noticed some sun damage where my jaw meets my neck. Sometimes it look like I didn't rub in my foundation, even though I don't wear any. I have been wearing sun screen and a moisterizer with spf for the last 6 months, (better late then never). Thanks again for all your help.. |

From my experience, Vivier and the Janson Beckett vitamin C serums have the perfect texture for normal to combo skin. At least, they are my preferrence because they're not too oily and also not too drying. Hopefully, the vitamin C might help you with the pigmentation issues although there are separate products that you can try for that. |

Keep in your mind that while there are many other remedies for uneven skin tone.
We have heard that tomatoes are great for the body, but you don't have to eat them to reap their benefits. Cut a large tomato in half. Rub one half on your face for 5 to 10 minutes.
Honey and lemon juice is another popular home remedy for uneven skin tone.

Vitamin C (LAA version) makes my skin tone ruddy and dull. Have tried it a few times over the year with the same result. |

If the uneven skin tone is due to redness and you have fairly sensitive skin, you could consider Avène. I've used their products for a long time, I have combination, sensitive skin. A couple of months ago I tried switching to another brand to save money but it wasn't worth it and I found redness becoming more of a problem. Now I've returned to Avène, I've been trying out their Rich skin recovery cream, which I use at night, and the Antirougeurs Day cream which has SPF 20. I'd used different Avène moisturisers before which I found good, but I wanted to tackle the redness. I've found this combination have really helped even out my skin tone and also are stopping me get so shiny - bonus! |

Vivier Vitamin C serum is a good brand to try for vitamin c for this type of uneven blotchy skin tones.... EDS sells this brand. It will help even it out when you religiously use this over time, say 6 months to see results. While using Vitamin C serum, just make sure that you use a sunscreen of at least 30 SPF or more to protect your skin daily. Hope this helps |
