DIORSHOW vs DIORSHOW Unlimited mascara

I ran out of my Dr Hauschka mascara and have forgotten to stock up again (EDS order pending, I must get this mascara again it is *THE* best!) so, on short notice, I have decided to turn to a mascara that I used to reach for often when I was going out in the evenings - Diorshow. I say "in the evenings" because Dr Hauschka gives a lovely defined natural look whereas I consider the Diorshow to add a bit more (but not too much) ooomph to my lashes.

Of course, I have just realised that since I first tried Diorshow (when it first came out), a myriad of variations have been introduced by Dior. I ended up getting the Diorshow Unlimited after it promised to curl my lashes Rolling Eyes

Here's a quick comparison of the two:

The Diorshow has a really HUGE brush which does a nice job of separating my lashes without any clumping. It stays put all day, lengthens and thickens a bit, doesn't flake, washes off very easily, and does an ok job of keeping the curl in my lashes.

The Diorshow ultimate, to my disappointment, has a much smaller brush, which is slightly elongated in the middle of one side. It also seems to be a wetter formulation which doesn't go on as nicely on my lashes. There is a bit of clumping and while the result is still nice, it's really nothing special and not worth the rather expensive "investment". It does have some curling capabilities, though it is not magic. I usually use a curler but tried this without one just to see what it does. Doesn't do much at all in terms of curl if you apply it quickly, if you do the "apply & hold" where you push the ends of your lashes up with the brush for a while then it gives some lift but nothing overly impressive. Nevertheless, it seems to hold that "lift" well, hasn't flaked or smudged on me, and washes off easily as well.

Mabsy - does the Dr H one smudge at all on you?

I have tried many different ones and my HG mascara now is a Bourjois one - Volume Aqua. I would be interested in the Dr H one as it sounds like it has lovely conditioning things in it but I hate the smudges under my eyes.

I know there is gift with purchase at the Dior counter right now. It includes a mascara and I want to find out whether it is Diorshow or the other one. Can't wait to try. Laughing

The Dr H doesn't smudge or flake on me at all and I use it on my bottom lashes (sometimes) and live in a humid climate. I recall others also saying that it doesn't smudge on them though I also think some members (with oily skin?) said that it smudged a bit?

Thank you Mabsy - the rest of my face isn't oily but under my eyes is where the perspiration gathers.
I was going to say sweat but that sound s bit yuck.

I find the Full Definition Voluminous by L'Oreal to be an excellent stand in for diorshow, just as an off topic fyi --
but still love the dior best.

would the diorshow unlimited hold my curl if I curl my lashes prior to using it?

My lashes only seem to hold a curl when I use waterproof mascara, but I would love to find a non-waterproof mascara that would be able to hold it! (my lashes are long and very straight).

It does a good job of holding my curl, but everyone's lashes are different so I can't guarantee it....

Btw, I used it yesterday over Carrie's lash treatment and I had flaking by the evening.

I heard that Dr Hauschka has a new mascara out now - a "volume" version of the original... has anyone else heard of this?

Mabsy, I have been eyeing up the Diorshow for quite some time. I am basically a mascara whore! LOL! Always looking for the BEST! I have tried many many many out there (from the priciest to the drug store) and currently am back to one of the originals of Dior which is there not as popular Cashmere formula. Have you tried this? I like a drier formula, a nice big brush head on the wand, and lots of drama! Would love to know if you feel that the Diorshow matches up! Oh, have you tried Lancome's new Fatale yet? That is another on my list....

miranets - I haven't seen it yet but since the original is my fave mascara I will definitely give this a go when I can get my hands on it.

doodlebug - sorry, I can't help there as I haven't tried either. I've been mainly sticking to Blinc, Dr Hauschka and the Diorshow. Tried and tested Smile

I heard that Diorshow can be damaging to the lashes. Have any of you found that to be true? I was thinking of trying it.

I haven't had any problems and didn't notice my lashes falling out more. I would notice if it was happening, I once used a Napoleon mascara that destroyed my lashes in a very short period of time Sad

I have been using DiorShow for about 1 year now (went through about 4 tubes, as I discard mascaras every 3 months and buy new). I just recently switched to Chanel Cils A Cils just for a change. I never had a problem with thinning eyelashes from DiorShow and in fact I find DiorShow gives thicker eyelashes when compared to Chanel Cils A Cils which gives a thinner more separated look to the eyelashes. Also DiorShow has a thicker brush/wand and Chanel Cils A Cils has a very thin brush/wand. I will continue with Chanel Cils A Cils until it runs out and probably go back to DiorShow.

I love DiorShow. I have waited and waited to try it because of the $23 pricetag, but it is worth every penny. No clumps. Thick, full, lush lashes....yet soft. Perhaps my HG mascara.

Mabsy,
Would it be possible to combine the best of both, meaning, apply the wetter one first then go over it with the better brush one? That way get curl, thickness and length?

I tried the Dr. H mascara - it felt lovely on, and there was no flaking. But I did get smudges pretty quickly (I have somewhat deepset eyes & oily skin) and I noticed if I teared up at all, it would get in my eye & made my eye tear even worse.

I ended up returning it - but it was a nice feeling mascara while I wore it.

Thanx Mabs.....did you guys notice that they came out with yet another variation of Diorshow? It's called Diorshow Blackout. Supposedly THE blackest of black mascaras. I think that I have seen on MUA that it is getting pretty crappy reviews tho. Sad

Re: mascara. I don't think stimulates growth but it certainly leaves my lashes nice and soft so I would say that yes, it does helps to keep them conditioned, or at least more than any other mascara I've tried. I want to pick up one of these tomorrow actually...

I bought the Dior Unlimited and i do agree with Masby, the curling part is nothing impression. just give a little lifting effect thats it.

If the mascara conditions lashes, I think it's great. I don't like the traditional ones that make your lashes all stiff, and I think become brittle and dry later.
