hi- have just started renova vit a cream (is called retrieve here in australia trentoin 0.05%)- my acne is really, really bad again.
am on estelle birth control pill, doxycycline antibiotics and a host of vitamins etc
just don't know what to do cleanser and mosturiser wise?? what will help and what won't?
am steering clear of all my salacylic and benzoyl peroxide products and am using my id mineral makeup as usual.
i have a 30 plus ultraceuticals sunscreen for day and was just going to cetaphil cleanse before the a cream. but i need a rec for a makeup remover (usually use dermalogica pre-cleanse), a morning cleanse (is it ok to exfoliate with microfoliant or kosmea rosehip daily exfoliant or use s/thing with AHAs or BHAS) and a post a cream nighttime moisturiser?
what do i do??? and will the a cream help existing scars and red marks?
thanks in advance |

please help!!!!!
i am hoping that someone will share their experiences.
the acne is fairly isolated to the bottom half of my face but the retin-a prob won't hurt my wrinkles so am putting it all over for 5 mins and washing off.
am starting slow nightly- my dr said only to use 5 days out of 7.
will me acne get worse first?
i read somewhere not to use mosituriser afterwards as it can deactivate the VIT a??!!
but i don't think i can't moisturise! do you think emu oil would be good?? |

I am sorry I cannot be to much help with these issues, but I honestly believe that you should moisturize after Renova. Emu oil is an excellent moisturiser, and it's known for its anti-inflammatory properties. I think you are on the right track.
PS. I would not wash off the Retin-A product. |

Renova/retin-a cream are not the best options for treating acne. They are both often too emollient (renova being more emollient) and contain ingredients that can cause acne. But it may work great for you , just something to keep in mind.
For makeup removal, when my skin is feeling especially irritated I use face wipes (I like Ponds), so that may be an option for your makeup removal. Or you could try a cleansing oil.
You can use moisturizer but wait about an hour after. This is only to prevent any buffering. And make sure its a basic moisturizer with no actives (aha, retinols, etc).
Why are you washing off renova after 5 minutes? You should leave on but start off only 2-3 times week and increase as your skin adjusts to it. Short Contact Therapy is only proven to work with tazorac. |

I don't know what the ingredients are in the base of your cream but you will want to avoid Isopropyl Myristate and Butylated Hydroxytoluene. |

Hello, bella77.
You mentioned both Retin-A and Renova in your post. I think you should stick with one of them, preferably Retin-A. I would apply a thin layer two or three times and week and gradually build up to five days, if that was your doctor's advice.
Remember that your acne can get worse for one or two weeks before you get an improvement.
Follow Girliegirl's advice to wait one hour before you apply emu oil or whichever moisturizer you prefer. Never cleanse off the Retin-A.
According to the article below, Retin-A is used in the treatment of acne, and Renova is prescribed for fine wrinkles. I think you will get some answers to your questions in this article:

Good luck. |
