Been reading the suggestions on this forum for days and am loving it! I have a question...actually a plea for help! I have what it seems dry, itch skin on my body and have tried tons of different body washes. Can anyone suggest something that is moisturizing? I don't have the time (most days) to follow up with a moisturizer but will if I have to! Also, lately I have been getting small bumps on my upper back and on the shoulders and upper arm area. I don't think it's acne. Has anyone suffer the same thing? What do you use for that in combination with the rest of my dry body? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! |

Sorry, can't help with the body wash. I think many of them irritate the skin, so you have to be careful what you use. I find the moisturizing ones worse sometimes. I usually moisturize separately, I like Ahava which EDS carries.
As for treating the bumps on back of arms, apparently derms have no real answer either and recommend AmLac 12% lotion which here is carried by big drugstores. I don't find it terribly helpful, but at least you feel like you are doing something about your problem. Maybe others have better suggestions and results? it's a real pain and they don't go away, not even for the derms themselves. |

I have quite dry skin on the body which ends up being very irritated and taut if I use regular soaps or even those "cream" body washes but I cannot go without washing either because I get blocked pores! I love using the Zenbiotic face+body cleanser, it is a gel but it does not lather and it does not cause my skin to become dry. I also follow up with the Zenbiotic Body Milk every 3-4 days and the dry cracked skin on my shins has completely disappeared.
Also if you can, try to skip washing with products and cut down to every 3-4 days. I don't think anyone will smell like death since hot water and a good scrub with a small cloth etc will remove most sweat and dirt build up. |

My faves are:
Liz Earle Orange botanical body wash- it doesn't contain any sodium sulphates and its foaming agent comes from coconut and a plant called soap bark. It is gentle enough to be used in the bath for new born babies or for anyone with eczema
Molton brown- all of the molton brown body washes are brilliant. My favourites are heavenly gingerlily, relaxing yuan zi and blissfull templetree, the heavenly gingerlily in particular is very moisturising as it contains macadamia nut oil. In my house both me, my mum and my dad all use heavenly gingerlily.
At the moment my favourite scent is the blissful templetree, i only received it last week but have fallen in love with the scent. |

I had the same problem but now make my own sugar scrubs. The one I have found most effective for the small bumps is mixing up
sugar, bit of olive oil, bit of advacado oil (any oils you want) 2 drops lemon oil, 2 drops rosehip oil (again any essential oil you prefer) I added a mashed banana last night just because it makes your skin so soft and smells yummy, but anyway just put it in a jar and massage it in when you are in the shower and it leaves you skin beutiful and soft, my lumps are getting so much better I think it might be the gentle exfoilating every day. The dryness has also cleared up no scaly like skin. Hope this helps. |

I personally love Dr. Bronner's liquid castille soap--but I dilute it with distilled water 33%. A tiny bit goes a looooong way. No one I know who uses this product has ever reported to me an adverse reaction--it is very gentle--and it has many other uses!
Kiehls also makes some excellent castille soaps, the coriander is lovely!!!
AND FYI dry brushing has made a world of difference in my body skin, along with a wonderful body oil blend. Remember that your skin issues could also be due to your moisturizer as well, or even your detergent.

Agree with this. Until about five years ago I rarely used body washes - I did use those nylon scrub gloves every single day though (still do). Really, body washes/soaps are not really necessary unless you've been working on your car, etc.
Having said that, at the moment I'm using EO shower gel in grapefruit & mint at the moment and liking it. Since I added some rosehip oil and sea kelp bioferment, I'm liking it even more! Maybe try adding some oil? |

I HIGHLY recommend Jurlique's Shower Gel (Rose or Lavender whichever you prefer). It is THE ONLY shower gel I have EVER used that seriously left my skin moisturized and smooth. I've tried a lot of organic stuff - IFP, Best Bath Store, Burt's Bees etc but none of them left me feeling moisturized. The best ones only left me NOT feeling dry but Jurlique seriously left me with a moisturized skin I could FEEL immediately after I rinse! It's expensive but if nothing else works then it's probably worth the money. |

I use oilbased body washes. Nivea has a nice and inexpencive one, but I prefer one from Eucerin that is not mineral oil based. I use these washes wit my japanese wash cloth.
I often follow up with Weleda body oils out of the shower. |

When I am dry in the winter, I use the SoftSoap brand of body washes. I find them non-drying, and I can skip the lotion/moisturizer some days. My daughter has very dry skin in the winter, and what helps is using a SoftSoap body wash and then one of those moisturizers that you put on and rinse off in the shower. Right now we are using a super cheap one from Suave.

Yes, I'd definitely try more natural products, preferably without SLS.
I've found the following to be gentle on my dry skin:
REN Rose Otto Body Wash
Liz Earle Body Wash
Aromatherapy Associates Rose Renew Body Wash
Daničle Ryman Body Wash |

Oh, I also like Jasons Naturals Satin Shower wash; I think that they make a Tea Tree one that might help your bumps if they are acne.

I'd recommend you to use some good soaps. I have very dry skin, and I found that soaps are not so drying as body washes. My husband had bumps on his back and shoulders because of dryness, but since he started using soaps they are gone.
I really like soaps fromwww.candessence.com. For cheaper alternatives, check dr. bronner's soaps. |

Hi!
I really love the body washes by Garden Botanika. They are a variety of different washes, and are definitely worth a look, IMO.
I have really dry skin and although I have tried several different "so called" moisturizing washes, none have agreed with my skin the way that Garden Botanika does.
If you want to take a look, they are on http://gardenbotanika.com
Make sure that you check out the clearance section for stock up prices or seasonal scents, which is a cheaper way to try what they have. If you want to get fancy you can create your own scents from a list, selection how many parts of each note you would like for your personalized shower gel, lotion or body spray.
Take care.

It's sodium laureth sulphate and can be irritating to sensitive skin.
Hope that helps. |

I LOVE Ren body washes, Rose and Lavender are my favourite.
BUT I'd say after using them, I'd still need body lotion (though seldom get around to putting it on...). If I use one of the Jason shower gels with my Japanese wash cloth, it's super quick and my skin is left lovely and smooth and I definitely don't need any moisturiser after that. |

Hi again..I did some research on sls and do u know that is used in almost everything and even cleaning materials for floors!!! I was so appalled!!! So I just came back from my neighboorhood nutritional house store and the lady recommended this new organic company called GIOVANNI and so I got one of their organic body washes Cassifluer White Tea and she swears I won't have dryness anymore after using this..so let's see what happens..I will keep you all posted about this! |

Well I am not sure that definitely makes it bad, all sorts of things are used in various ways. For example, lemon oil is in my floor cleaner but I don't mind putting it on my face.
SLS is a foaming agent so of course it would be used in different things, but I'd imagine the SLS in say an indiustrial-grade floor cleaner and the SLS in say a L'Occitane facial wash would be quite different?? Though, sometimes strong things can be gentle too - you can use Fairy liquid to degrease engine parts (I've tried, it works) but I'd still use it on my best china.
Saying that, I have sensitivities to SLS so never use products with it in. |

Well good luck with your new product. If it doesn't work do try some of the others. Jason is SLS free and PH balanced and surprisingly inexpensive. |

Candessence Cleansing Butter is great to use as a body wash if you don't want your skin to feel dry, and I find I don't have to follow with a body moisturiser afterwards if I don't want to.
I've also found that using a body brush before bathing has been great for not only reducing the bumps on my arms and legs but it also reduces the need to moisturise.
You could just use a moisturiser on you arms where you have the bumps, to save you having to do your whole body. I use Palmers Skin Smoothing Lotion with AHA/BHA and it has really helped my skin. |
