Hi,
I'm just wondering if anyone here have tried re-using their mascara tube after the mascara gel ran out. I'm thinking of replacing the mascara gel with some castor oil as a treatment for the lashes and brows.. do u think it's workable? |

| This sounds smart -- just make sure you have really cleaned both well before you put the castor oil in, and change that oil periodically. Are you using a little funnel or something? |

I think it would be too hard to be sure the tube was completely clean, and therefore too risky in my opinion.
I recycle mascara spoolies all the time, though. I dip the clean spoolie in a little jar of the oil, apply to my lashes, and then rinse the spoolie.

| What if she let it sit full of alcohol for a week, closed, and even occasionally shook it around. And maybe preceded that with a week of mascara thinning solvent? Perhaps that is too much of a production... |

| imho, i dont think its a good idea to reuse the mascara tube. i would rather get a new container. |

Hi alimwj,
There is a stopper on the top of the mascarra tube ... and you can remove that. Once that has been removed, it's really a very simple thing to clean out the tube.
That said ... you really do want to ensure that there is no bacteria in the tube. Some forms of bacteria can be disasterous for your eyes ... and I'd suggest filling the tube up with 99% alcohol ... which should kill just about anything.
And don't forget the stopper ... it's what removes the excess from the spoolie ... so you'll want to clean and disinfect that as well.
It may be more trouble than it's worth ... but you can be reasonably sure that you've got everything clean if you first wash the tube, stopper and spoolie in warm soapy water and then disinfect everything with alcohol. Let everything dry ... and it should be fine.
Would I do this myself? I don't think so. I think I'd get a small dropper bottle from my local pharmacy [you can sterilize glass] ... put whatever I wanted in the dropper bottle ... and just clean and disinfect the spoolie.
