The Microplane Foot File is another product that I first heard mentioned here in the EDS forums. Then, another forum I regularly visit (handbag.com) started raving about it. In fact, a member there kindly offered to do a bulk buy order for those of us who were interested, as it's excruciatingly expensive to obtain in the UK. I took this member up on her generous offer and my Microplane arrived yesterday.
Microplane make great food graters, and then they decided to use their expertise to make great foot graters.
They come in either orb or wand style. Orbs are easiest to use on yourself, whilst wands are good for using on other people. The orb also comes with a lid so that the scrapings don't end up all over the place. Which would be pretty yuck.
Grating your feet doesn't sound particularly pleasant, does it? In fact, it sounds downright agonising.
Well, actually, it's nowhere near as gruesome as it sounds. In fact, it didn't hurt me one bit. Be careful, though, as grating away at those hard skin patches or callouses can be terribly addictive. Best to just do a little at a time, maybe only twice a week, otherwise you may get too carried away and take too much skin off, leaving it sore.
The grating must be done on completely dry skin. So best to do it before your shower or bath, rather than after when the skin will be soft.
My feet aren't bad at all, but I do have one or two areas of hard skin that even my Diamancel hasn't managed to shift. In just a single use of my Microplane, I've already noticed a big difference. (I won't describe to you how many scrapings I discovered in the orb container afterwards, in case you're eating your dinner or something.)
So, I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who has hard skin and wants their feet to look gorgeous this summer. |

Don't know where you live, but I'm in the US and I ordered mine from www.microplane.com.
My entire family loves the mircroplane foot files! You won't be satisfied using anything else once you've tried it. |

debbied - In which country do you live? If you're in the US, I'd follow phredd's suggestion and order direct from the company. It's only excruciatingly expensive to get in the UK because they've increased the shipping cost to a ridiculous level. |

I first heard about it on beautybuzz about 3-4 years ago. The ladies there all still rave about it. I don't have any need for one so can't speek from personal experience. |

Majorb, thanks for posting this! Had never heard of this file, but now that I've checked it out, I'm gonna get one of the "orb" ones. My feet aren't really bad, but this sounds like something that will keep the caluses from getting out of control. Between this and my Candessence foot balm, I'll be all set!

That's exactly why I ordered it too, Mary. During the summer, when I'll be mostly living in flipflops and going out in high, strappy sandals, I want to make sure my feet don't go all hard and horrid. |

Majorb - thanks for your review. I've been trying to decide whether
1) I need the Microplane since I've already got the Diamancel;
2) the orb or the foot file?
Now I know I'll be getting the Orb. ![Smile](images/smiles/smile.gif) |

stardust - The orb really is a lot easier to use on yourself. I was quite surprised! |

I have both the orb and the paddle foot file and I have to say I like the paddle better. I just seem to have more control with it. It has the potential for a bigger mess but I usually just spread newspapers under me or sit on the edge of the tub with feet in and just rinse the nasties into the drain. Also actually seeing all that dead skin fly is sort of gratifying. ![Smile](images/smiles/smile.gif) |

I know what you mean when I look inside the orb. Disgusting, but definitely gratifying at the same time! ![Laughing](images/smiles/lol.gif) |

the price is so reasonable and I believe it will last for a good long while. I've already been thru 2 of the pumice type in the last 6 weeks. Two more and I have over paid for the Microplane. Go for it! ![Very Happy](images/smiles/biggrin.gif) |

this caught my interest. i have used the sandpaper kind of files and it takes it off like powder. Do you think this would help more. it looks like it could be scratchy ![Confused](images/smiles/confused.gif) |

It's definitely much more effective than the sandpaper type files - but make sure you only file a little at a time as there is a temptation (especially at first) to go mad and file too much so you end up with a sore foot. |
