I "strayed" off awhile after using Bioclear for 3 weeks..... I had such good results from bioclear that i added in a 2 more JM products, cleanser and acne gel II. The JM Acne Gel started off great, "froze" my acnes, they didn't get any bigger, made them less angry and swollen. But later i realised that acne gel II left dark burn marks on all my acnes, which took nearly a month to lighten. Sigh...because of this i went looking for other alternative and didn't touch the Bioclear for quite awhile My face is in a bad conditions now with breakouts and looks rough. I am going back to my Bioclear again this evening. |

I had the same question. I'm planning on incorporating either the bp or acne gel into my current regime.
Also curious if I could incorporate Obagi clear (hq) with the bioglycolic line?? I'm so glad that JM has cleared my face, but I'd really like to get rid of all the residual scars. JM also has a lightening gel (glycolic/kojic), but I couldn't find any reviews here or on mua. Has any tried it? |

hey Cat,
skinlover replied real quick and said that it controlled the acne but left purpley marks. i was hestitant at first but still went ahead ordering the acne gel but i will use it sparingly.
i still havent heard from the JM site/rep but as soon as i get that email from them, i will copy and paste it onto her |

Tx yeahyeah!
Are you getting the BPO too? I wonder if there's anything special in the formulation over drugstores BPO gels...Sometimes I worry about falling prey to a racket but then often I try not to think too hard about it!... |

It's expensive considering you can get a similar or even stronger BP product at the drug store. |

Hi yeahyeah, No, I haven't. I have some manuka honey that I usually use as a mask though. I believe manuka honey is the key ingredient of the BBS gel. Nothing to write home about though...DEEP SIGH! |

I had horrible experiences with BP...and swore I'd never go back to it.
When I visited a derm in junior high, he put me on Retin A during the day and BP at night. THe BP dried me out something fierce and bleached all my pillowcases.
Granted that WAS prescription strength...but BP does have peroxide in it, which is a bleaching agent.
It is used in a lot of different drugstore acne meds, so if you want to try BP you might go that route first to see if it works for you before spending money on JM. Also if you do try it, start with smaller percentages (don't go straight to 10%). Some people have an allergy to BP and it can cause problems if you don't start with a smaller dose of BP. If you have problems with the smaller dose such as irritation, do not go up in strength, it'll only get worse.
I found SA to be much more effective for me (which is in the bioclear cream) and is much less drying. |

its nearly a week since ordering the JM stuff, so hopefully by thursday, i should receive it!! |

Hi PT,
Yes, BP can be pretty drying. The JM blurb about their version says:
"Jan Marini Skin Research Benzoyl Peroxide is pharmaceutically produced blah-blah... By using highly micronized benzoyl peroxide and special non-comedongenic emollients, this preparation minimizes dryness and irritation, while providing maximum measurable effectiveness."
Whether this is an empty marketing ploy, I don't know - the ingredients don't look that special:
Benzoyl Peroxide 5%, Deionized Water, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Glycerine, Butylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Propylparaben
For example: Panoxyl gel is:
Active Ingredients:Benzoyl Peroxide 5%. Inactive Ingredients: Carbomer 940; Dimethicone; Disodium Lauryl Sulfosuccinate; Edetate Disodium; Glycerin; Hydrated Silica; Methylparaben; Poloxamer 182; Purified Water; Sodium Hydroxide.
you know what - looking at these side by side, JM seems purer: BPO in an alcohol- base. |

so i got the email reply from JM's reps...finally!...but its not really that helpful:
"Hello
If you requrie a spot treatment only then I would recommend the Acne Gel 1. Use as and when required.
Kind regards" |

Thanks yeahyeah! That was a pretty random answer from JM, wasn't it!!!
How are you getting along?
I have the drugstore BP but I am being pretty careful with it as I think I'm already seeing bleached patches though I use it at night. |

hi cat,
yeah i know, i would have expected a detailed reply stating the benefits of the gel, seeing as how JM markets itself as being really pro
well its nearly been 2wks since placing my order and i have still not received my JM products, so i have resorted to returning to my murad spot treatment...but im going to make an appt with my GP tomorrow, hopefully he would prescribed some topical retinoids for me, which then means that i wont really get the chance to use the JM acne gel |

Just a little update...I've been using the acne gel for 3 days now
Although I cant provide a review for it yet, I've got to say that I dont like it that much (and have ordered Daniel Kern's BP gel cos I've been reading how its more superior than other BP gels ).
I wanted to get the acne gel I but I placed the I and II in the cart and accidently deleted the acne gel I instead of II, which is a lot stronger. It stung for a minute or two when I applied it on my acne but I could handle it. On some acnes it stopped it from growing and lessened the redness, but there is still a bump on the skin. And on some other areas of my face, it made the underground bumps come to a head...filled with pus! But it does shorten the healing process a little bit.
The gel is blue so when applied to the big red pimple, it makes it purple. So its definately to be used at night!
What I dont like about this gel so far is the bottle! There's 59ml/2oz of this so you're getting your money's worth, but its in a pump and one pump of this isnt yet enough but two pumps is WAY too much...so in terms of controlling how much you want to get out of the bottle is difficult and as a result I have been wasting quite a bit of this

Me too, Paris... I'd NEVER go back to BP ever again. I haven't used it for 3 years now, and thank god I've stopped! All BP did for acne was making them was making them worser and it caused many scars, too. |

It seriously made my face a peeling, dry mess that I couldn't get balanced for the life of me. Plus the bleaching of my pillow cases and bed clothes (I used it on my back too) was terrible. Drove my mum nuts. I used to shower at night, but BP prompted me to start showering in the AM as it began to affect my regular clothes I'd wear to school.
I much prefer BHA, a lot less harsh on me. And I don't really have sensitive skin. I think that is why Proactiv never worked for me either. Maybe I'm one that just doesn't respond well to BP. |

Just a word of warning for those that have ordered this gel: Do not use them on existing acne as it makes it BLACK!
I spot treated on some existing acne and the next morning it completely dried that area and made it black rather than the normal red mark. |

Wow... the same thing happened to skinlover.. I wonder if this is common for everyone? I think my bioclear lotion is strong enough for spot treating though. |
